Good Working Order and quite Crisp Condition, bore excellent, with traces of colour hardening to lock and dark patina to barrel; with its triangular socket bayonet, in its scabbard, the socket stamped “3./140”, the scabbard frog button stamped “3.138”. A good late Victorian 1845 pattern infantry field officer’s sword of the Chatsworth Rifles, almost straight, fullered blade 32½”, by Meyers & Mortimer, Conduit St, London, etched with crowned VR cypher, strung bugle, “Chatsworth” and “Rifles” with frosted floral and foliate panels, regulation gilt hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, stepped pommel, ornamental backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip with gilt and crimson knot (some wear) in its brass scabbard with 2 rings. Very Good Condition, retaining virtually all original finish to blade and hilt (2 tiny edge nicks to blade, minor dents and scratches to scabbard).

Good Condition,the hilt retaining traces of gilt (very light wear and surface pitting to blade, hilt slightly bent) Plate 21

A George IV officer’s mameluke sword of The 15th (or the King’s) Light Dragoons (Hussars), curved, flat blade 31½”, by Andrews, 9 Pall Mall, London (the style of the firm 1821-1825), etched on both sides with crown in sunburst and “King’s Hussars”, in panels, copper gilt (some rubbing) crossguard and langets, bud finials, with stylized foliate decoration, engraved ivory grips with floral studs (one missing), gilt knot (some wear) in its fine sheath engraved panelled scabbard, with darkened sharkskin backing, and floral embossed ring mounts, and retaining some original gilt. Good Condition, (minor dark pitting patches to lower part of blade). Plate 22

A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry officer’s dress sword, straight double edged blade 31” with central fuller for one third length, brass hilt, retaining a little gilt, the boat shaped guard with reinforced edges, crossguard, knucklebow which screws into ovoid pommel with prominent stud, simulated copper wirebound grip in its black leather scabbard with brass locket, middle band and chape. Good Condition (some service wear overall). Plate 23

A good rare Volunteer heavy cavalry officer’s sword, c 1796, broad, multi fullered single edged straight blade 36”, with Bowie type clipped back point, and retaining most original polish, steel semi basket guard, partly pierced and chiselled with scrolls, similar to 1796 heavy cavalry officer’s un-dress pattern. Wire bound fishskin covered grip, original wash leather liner, in its steel scabbard with rounded shoe. Very Good Condition for age (patches of pitting at blade tip).  Plate 23
