A Japanese Army company officer's kyu-guntō with stamped and pierced sakura pattern guard to thin knucklebow bearing four character marks, gilt brass foliate decorated back strap with white metal (probably) Sakai Clan mon and samē wirework grip, the blade engraved with dragon chasing Pearl of Wisdom and sword/dagger to either side and with copper mount to base, blade length to top of mount 56cm, in nickel plated single ring scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Loss to the blade top with small nibbles to the blade edge upper section, general surface wear with some scratches and nicks to the blade, hilt and scabbard, the guard and knucklebow slightly loosely attached to the hilt, there is residue to the guard, some discolouration, rubbing to the gilt finish, some small areas where sections of the sam? grip have been lost including two nodules to the upper band, the scabbard is dented in numerous places, corrosion and rubbing to the plated finish, particularly to the lower section, with description stating that the four character mark to knucklebow gives the name Nakamura Toshio although this is the vendor's information and we cannot guarantee this.

A Japanese naval officer's c. 1914 pattern kyu-guntō, the sakura motif guard with two character mark to thin knucklebow with gold cord, slider and knot, the gilt floral decorated back strap with white metal watanabe clan mon and samē wirework grip, the fullered blade with copper mount to base, blade length to top of mount approx 70.2cm, in black samē scabbard with sakura motif brass mounts (af). CONDITION REPORT: Damage to the scabbard both to the upper and central sections with losses to the sam? outer surface and to the central brass mount, some old repairs and tape, pitting to the blade back and some to the edge, scratches, nicks etc to the blade and copper mount, some deep scratches to the copper mount, probably as a form of decoration, further similar surface wear to the hilt and hinged guard, the knucklebow slightly misshapen, discolouration and tarnish to the metalware, rubbing to the gilt finish, the wirework has come loose to the upper section of the grip, wirework may or may not be original, sam? grip worn, discoloured and dirty, some small holes. Wear and discolouration to the cord and knot.

A Japanese naval officer's kai-guntō with sun ray pattern seppa and plain tsuba, the brown tape bound grip with three sakura to either side and similarly decorated collar, pommel, sarute and brown tassel, the tempered steel blade with copper mount to base, blade length to top of mount approx 62cm, in samē scabbard with sakura gilt metal twin ring mounts. CONDITION REPORT: Scabbard quite heavily worn, there is a split from the centre up to the upper section, some losses, some discolouration both to the sam? and the metal mounts, extensive rubbing to the metal mounts, the blade with surface scratches and nicks particularly to the upper section, potential tiny loss towards to the blade tip, please judge that for yourself, scratches to the copper mount and further general wear throughout, some distress to the tape grip, rubbing to the gilt finish on the mounts, general discolouration, wear, scratches etc.

A Japanese naval officer's kai-guntō with sun ray motif seppa and black lacquered tsuba, black same tape grip with three sakura to either side and similarly decorated ferrule, pommel and sarute with brown tassel, the fullered steel blade with copper coloured mount to base, blade length to top of mount 49cm, in black same scabbard with gilt metal sakura motif twin ring mounts. CONDITION REPORT: Some particular areas of wear to the same scabbard, rubbing to the gilt mounts, general surface wear, some light pitting to the blade, scratches, nicks etc, wear to the copper coloured mount, areas of loss to the lacquer on the tsuba, scratches to the finish on the seppa, further general wear, the tape on the grip now faded and discoloured, rubbing to the gilt mounts throughout, general wear to the same grip.

A Japanese Army non-commissioned officer's shin-guntō with cast brass sakura motif grip and pommel with leather strap, slider and knot, the copper fuchi bearing Koishikawa Kokura Arsenal symbol and brass tsuba with faux mane detail, the two seppa with stylised rings, the double fullered blade stamped with Arabic assembly/accountability numbers 13350 and control stamp, with brass mount to blade base, blade length approx 67cm, in steel single ring scabbard numbered 13350 to throat/base. CONDITION REPORT: Wear to the scabbard throughout, some loss to the painted finish, scratches, gouges, no major dents however scratches, nicks, general surface wear throughout to blade, similarly to the brass mount, tsuba, seppa and hilt, the tsuba with discolouration, rubbing to the finish on the grip with the brass showing through, various surface wear throughout to the hilt, distress to the leather tassel and cord.

Lot 533

A Japanese Army officer's parade sabre with pierced sakura motif guard and similarly decorated back plate, wirework grip and gold cord, green and red slider, knot and stem (faded) (x2), the double fullered blade with lightly etched wave motif to edge, blade length 73cm, in nickel plated single ring scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Wear throughout to the scabbard, rubbing to the nickel finish, particularly to the upper section but with corrosion, discolouration, dents, scratches etc throughout, the blade with surface scratches, nicks and small gouges, the washer that was present has partly perished, similar surface wear to the hilt, rubbing to the gilt finish, surface scratches, nicks, gouges etc, discolouration possibly corrosion to the wirework of the grip, the grip itself with wear to the finish, the very tip of the pommel has lost its outer gilt metal surface and interior exposed, much of the gold finish on the tassel has gone. Wear and discolouration to one cord and knot, the knot, stem and slider are a different colour to the cord so it may have been matched up at one point. The other very similar and very faded.

A Japanese Army Junior Officer's parade sabre, the fullered blade stamped to base 'Tokyo Japan Suya', with pierced foliate motif guard and further foliate detail to back strap, wirework horn grip, length of blade 84cm, in metal scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Blade slightly loosely fitted into the hilt, but there is only light surface wear and light pitting to blade, light nicks, surface scratches, gouges, etc to the hilt. The scabbard with some dents and corrosion.

Lot 541

A Japanese Army officer's shin-gunto with brass plate to blade base, with pierced floral motif tsuba, tape bound samē grip and saru-te, length of blade approx 65cm, in metal single loop scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: There are nibbles to the blade edge, particularly to the upper section. The very tip of the blade has been lost, further scratches, small nicks throughout. Similar general surface wear to remainder with surface scratches, rubbing to coloured detail where applicable. Discolouration to the tape binding, Some discolouration to the exposed same, etc. The scabbard heavily worn, particularly the upper section with loss to the surface finish, corrosion where that has been exposed, scratches, dents, etc, thoughout.

Lot 542

A Japanese army non-commissioned officer's shin-gunto numbered to blade base 53326 with character mark, three further character marks beneath plain tsuba to metal grip in metal scabbard, blade length approx 69cm including brass base section, also a tanto with tsuba (loose) and cloth wrapped shagreen grip in probably later plastic scabbard, blade length approx 31.5cm including copper base section (2). CONDITION REPORT: Some light corrosion and pitting to blade, some wear and loss to the finish on the tsuba and general wear and tear to the grip with chips to the painted finish etc, the scabbard with some dents and also discolouration and losses to the coloured finish. Regarding tanto, general heavy wear throughout, please refer to images for condition.

Lot 543

A Japanese sword for restoration with curved blade to floral decorated tsuba and further floral decorated metal grip with repeated three leaf mon, blade length approx 52cm including brass coloured base section, lacking scabbard, also a Japanese dagger with ribbed grip and gilt decorated scabbard (2). CONDITION REPORT: Condition faults throughout, refer to images, these are sold af with no returns.

Lot 546

A Royal Artillery officer's dress sabre with etched decoration and indistinct royal cipher to the blade, with pierced guard and partial shagreen grip, length of blade 82.5cm, in metal scabbard (af). CONDITION REPORT: Most of the shagreen has been lost, the back strap has come away from the grip and there is a clear gap from the two. Further splits to the grip and damage and loss to the wirework. The blade has surface pitting, dull tip, some surface corrosion, further more pronounced corrosion to the guard with frequent and significant loss to the silvered finish. Similar to the other metal mounts, pommel and back strap. Scabbard is dented, heavily pitted, some corrosion, extensive loss to the silvered finish.

Lot 547

A Victorian infantry officer's sabre with VR cipher and etched decoration to blade and further cipher to pierced brass guard and wirework shagreen grip (lacking scabbard), blade length 82cm, and a further sabre with Eickhorn Solingen stamped blade and Third Reich-style hilt in metal scabbard (2). CONDITION REPORT: The second sword is indeed only in the style of the Third Reich and is not of the period or of authentic construction, general wear throughout to hilt and scabbard, blade relatively clean with minor pitting and nibbles to edge, the Victorian sabre significantly more worn with heavy pitting, surface corrosion and nibbles to both edges of blade, the guard with damage and heavy surface wear, the back strap has been broken at some point and soldered back together and is raised away from the grip itself, also with significant surface wear and damage to the base where it is attached to the pommel. German sword with no dents to scabbard visible but surface corrosion, pitting, loss to black finish and general heavy wear throughout, length 83cm, blade appears straight and feels firmly set in hilt, blade length 79cm, some nibbles to blade edge, pommel feels secure but band at top of grip with jiggle, slight movement to crossguard, wirework intact, rubbing to gilt and surface wear throughout hilt section with somewhat crude finish to the casting, lion's head at pommel has had red and white stones inserted for eyes.

A naval (possibly) hanger, the ivory or bone grip with metal band inscribed 'MLRVrA', in leather scabbard (af), blade length approx 71cm. CONDITION REPORT: The scabbard cannot be removed by us from the sword, some small sections of the blade can be seen from which there is visible pitting and corrosion, the remove the scabbard you will have to do so after purchase, there are no returns, please judge condition from pictures provided.

A Victorian Aberdeenshire Highlander's basket hilt sword with VR cipher and etched floral decoration to centrally fullered blade and indistinctly signed to base with pierced heart motif guard and taped grip (lacking pommel) with scabbard, blade length approx 82cm. CONDITION REPORT: Blade tip lacking sharp point, blade generally ok with only light pitting, surface wear and rubbing to decoration, the guard is loose and has corrosion and pitting throughout, the pommel is missing as stated and the tape to the grip is certainly later, possibly for structural reasons, the scabbard is heavily pitted, discoloured and dented, small split approximately half way down and top of scabbard is misshapen, there are no returns on this item.

A George V Royal Company of Archers ceremonial/dress short sword with GR cipher and etched decoration to blade and signed for Rogers & Co London to crossguard, with scrolled grip to plain pommel in metal mounted leather scabbard with further scrolling to mounts, blade length 51.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Some pitting and surface corrosion particularly to the base of the blade, rubbing to the brass coloured finish of the guard and grip with usual wear, similar to scabbard, leather slightly distressed and rubbing, discolouration, scratches etc to the metal mounts.

A naval officer's dress sword, the blade with etched fouled anchors, crowns and further detail to both sides, signed to base 'Firmin & Sons Ltd 153 Strand London', length 79.5cm, the hinged guard with fouled anchor device and lion's head pommel with wirework shagreen grip, in metal mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Some pitting, minor corrosion, heavy surface wear and dirt to the blade, some rubbing to the etched decoration on the blade, similar wear to the guard and grip with rubbing deep and numerous scratches, nicks and gouges, discolouration, rubbing, etc. Loss of the shagreen to the base of the grip on one side, some wirework slightly loose. Similar wear to the scabbard with distress and some losses to the leather. Rubbing to the mounts, scratches, etc.

A Victorian Light Infantry officer's sword, the blade with etched VR cipher and foliate detail, stamped to base 'Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London', number to back 10349, length 82cm, the pierced guard with Rifles device and with wirework shagreen grip, lacking scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Some pitting and general wear including scratches, nicks, etc. Similar wear to the guard with heavy rubbing to the finish and deep scratches, nicks, gouges, etc. Similar to the back strap but shagreen grip in good condition and without losses.

Lot 562

A military issue heavy cavalry sabre, the blade with broad arrow and numerous further stamps to base, with pierced guard, checkered back strap and wirework shagreen grip, in red leather scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Some pitting, corrosion and rubbing to the plated finish of the blade with general wear and tear. The guard also quite heavily worn, corroded and pitted with also rubbing to any original finish. Similar rubbing to the finish on the back strap and pommel, however grip appears OK. Distress to the leather scabbard, some losses, discolouration, etc.

A Victorian infantry officer's sword, the blade with etched VR cipher and foliate detail, length 81.5cm, the pierced guard with VR cipher and with wirework shagreen grip, lacking scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Some pitting and corrosion to the blade, with general wear, deep scratches, nicks, gouges, etc. Rubbing to the etched detail., The guard misshapen, one section split and further stress marks, also heavily worn with deep scratches, nicks, gouges, discolouration, etc. The wirework to the lower section of the grip slightly loose and slightly misshapen and with patches of pronounced wear.

A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry dress sword, the blade with GR cipher to one side and royal crest of arms to the other with further detail, signed to blade back 'F.F. Runker Solingen', length 82cm, the figure of eight guard with foliate detail and with wirework grip, in metal scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Pitting and some corrosion, general heavy wear, scratches, nicks, etc. Loss to the blade tip. The figure of eight section of the guard, slightly loose, general wear and tear, deep scratches, nicks, gouges, discolouration, rubbing to the finish, etc. The scabbard also with corrosion, heavy wear and some dents.

Lot 565

A late 18th/early 19th century naval officer's sabre, the guard stamped 'FT' for Frances Thurkle and with wirework ivory grip, length approx 74cm, lacking scabbard. CONDITION REPORT: Loss to blade tip and heavy pitting, minor corrosion, nicks and nibbles to the blade edge and heavy surface scratches, nicks, etc. Similar wear to the guard with heavy scratches, rubbing to the finish, nicks and gouges similar to back strap and losses to the ivory, a noticeable chip to the bottom section and further nibbles, and hairlines throughout. Some of the wirework grip is loose to the upper section and the quillon is slightly loose. Back strap also loose.

CONDITION REPORT: Some surface corrosion and pitting to blade, wear and tear to the guard and grip with surface scratches, nicks and gouges, blade very slightly off centre.
