An 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword to the Durham Light Infantry, 82.5cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned GVR cypher, crowned Royal arms and the owner's name LIEUT. J.H. BAILLIE, regulation pierced steel hilt incorporating a crowned GVR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its black field service scabbard. J.H. Baillie served in the Durham Light Infantry and was killed in action on the 3rd of May 1917.

An 1822 Pattern Rifle Officer's sword to the King's Royal Rifle Corps, 83.5cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 25316 etched with full battle honours to either side and regimental motifs, further etched with the family crest and initials of E.T. Pakenham, regulation plated steel Gothic hilt incorporating a crowned strung bugle horn, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard.

An Edward VII 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword to Major George Hamilton Wilkinson DSO, 82.5cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 37257, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal Arms and cypher's, regulation pierced plated steel hilt incorporating a crowned EVIIR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard. Major George Hamilton Wilkinson was born in 1878 and became a Major with the Indian Army in September 1915, his DSO being awarded in June 1918. Wilkinson also served during the Boer War 1900-02.

An 1896 Pattern Mountain Artillery sword or sidearm by Wilkinson, 76.5cm curved blade stamped WILKINSON at the forte and stamped with an arrow over I over SD and with an arrow over I over 03, regulation brass stirrup hilt stamped R.P.Q. 04 over 5 M.B. R.G.A. 53, ribbed iron grip, contained in its brass mounted brown leather MKII scabbard. Some salt and pepper pitting towards the tip of the blade. Interestingly five guns of the 5th Mountain Battery RGA were present at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle as part of the Indian Corps and were in position to provide direct fire on German positions in support of 7th and 8th Divisions of IV Corps, losing one gun to enemy fire. The Mountain Artillery generally was deemed to have been lacking in effect due to the absence of any High Explosive shells, the shrapnel shells being ineffective against fortified positions. A Second War period Turkish Officer's sword, 79.5cm clean blade etched with scrolling foliage, Crescent and Star motif and entwined TC monogram ANKARA H.-O. 1.3.40, regulation brass stirrup hilt the front langet decorated with a Crescent and Star motif, wire bound ribbed horn grip, contained in its brass and copper mounted plated steel scabbard.

An 1856 Pattern Pioneer's sidearm, 56cm sawbacked blade by MOLE and with various Ordnance stamps at the forte, regulation brass stirrup hilt with ribbed brass grip, stamped with an N to the underside of the guard and with sold out of service marks to the side of the pommel, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard.

An 1856 Pattern MKI Drummer's sword, 48.5cm flattened diamond section blade by Reeves of Birmingham, struck with an inspection stamp to the edge of the forte, etched with a maker's panel at the forte for REEVES, regulation brass hilt incorporating a VR cypher stamped with an Inspector's mark, dated 8.1884 and further stamped .11. R.E., contained in its engraved brass mounted black leather scabbard.

An 1895 Pattern MKII Drummer's sword or sidearm to the Grenadier Guards, 32.5cm flattened diamond section blade stamped with sold out of service marks, slightly rounded tip, regulation brass hilt incorporating a VR cypher and stamped 10.03 and 3.G.G. 19, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, the throat stamped 3.1900 and 2GG 26. Chape replaced.

Four 20th Century decorative Chinese swords, the first with 77cm flattened diamond section etched damascus blade inset with brass dot decoration and chiselled with caligraphy, open brass mounts decorated with foliage, contained in its simulated same covered scabbard, together another similar with curved fullered blade and wooden scabbard and two further Chinese swords with etched blades decorated with dragon and contained in their crude brass mounted scabbards. (4)

An Indian Military issue Kukri, 34cm sharply curved blade with single fuller, stamped with Indian Government issue marks and dated 1919, contained in its issue scabbard dated 1918, complete with hanging straps stamped 2-2G, together with a further tourist Kukri with scabbard. The first Kukri with rounded tip. (2)
Lot 278
A Dutch Klewang or Machete, 43.5cm blade stamped HEMBRUG at the forte, recurved steel guard, two-piece riveted wooden grips, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, together with a Bolo, the scabbard with later ink markings "Filipino Guerilla's Knife - Bolo" (Leyte 1944-45). The Dutch machete is known to have been used by Japanese forces during WWII. (2)

A good Third Reich Kriegsmarine Officer's dagger ensemble, 25cm flattened diamond section blade with double fullers and etched with scrolling foliage, entwined dolphins and fouled anchors on a matt ground, marked WKC at the forte, regulation gilt brass hilt with wire bound white celluloid grip, contained in its engraved gilt brass scabbard, complete with, knot, hanging straps and silver bullion belt with gilt buckle, accompanied by a Third Reich coffin drape. Generally good to very good condition with some fraying to knot and two hanging strap clips detached but present.
Lot 288
A Third Reich SA dagger, 22cm flattened diamond section blade bearing the motto Alles fur Deutschland and RZM mark M7/68 for Lauterjung & Co, "Tigerwerk", regulation plated holbein hilt with dark wood grip, contained in its plated mounted brown painted scabbard, complete with belt hook. Shows good crossgrain to the blade with tramlines and minor grey staining.

A rare Ethiopian Menelik II King's Guard Sword, 82cm curved fullered blade profusely etched with scrolling foliage and stands of arms, further etched with the Lion of Judah and a panel of caligraphy translating to Menelik, and to the other side with an image of St George and a panel of caligraphy translating to St George, etched with the initials GG and a further inscription at the forte translating to Produced by Nicola for his Imperial Majesty, regulation steel stirrup hilt with traces of plated finish, the langets decorated with an image of the Lion of Judah and two initials, wire bound celluloid grip, contained in its leather scabbard. Menelik II (1844-1913) reigned from 1889-1913 confronting and defeating the Italians in their attempts to expand their empire. An 18th Century silver and ivory mounted hunting dagger by Jeffreys Cutler to His Majesty, 29.5cm blade, recurved silver quillons with scroll terminals, gadrooned central panel, spirally fluted ivory grip with silver bird's head pommel, contained in its silver mounted polished fishskin scabbard. Circa 1763, Daniel Jeffries, the Strand, Cutler to his Majesty 1763. Chape a later white metal replacement.

A 19th century police short sword in brass mounted leather scabbard. With curved fullered blade, brass stirrup hilt with safety button and leather mounted grip. Stamped 545, blade 56cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Scabbard stitching undone and missing brass tip. Grip lather badly worn. Blade dull and pitted and with slight bend toward the end. Safety press stud functioning. Stirrup guard with very slight wobble from the pommel end.
