An 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword to the Durham Light Infantry, 82.5cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned GVR cypher, crowned Royal arms and the owner's name LIEUT. J.H. BAILLIE, regulation pierced steel hilt incorporating a crowned GVR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its black field service scabbard. J.H. Baillie served in the Durham Light Infantry and was killed in action on the 3rd of May 1917.

Pakenham, regulation plated steel Gothic hilt incorporating a crowned strung bugle horn, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard.

An Edward VII 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword to Major George Hamilton Wilkinson DSO, 82.5cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 37257, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal Arms and cypher's, regulation pierced plated steel hilt incorporating a crowned EVIIR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard. Major George Hamilton Wilkinson was born in 1878 and became a Major with the Indian Army in September 1915, his DSO being awarded in June 1918. Wilkinson also served during the Boer War 1900-02.

An 1896 Pattern Mountain Artillery sword or sidearm by Wilkinson, 76.5cm curved blade stamped WILKINSON at the forte and stamped with an arrow over I over SD and with an arrow over I over 03, regulation brass stirrup hilt stamped R.P.Q. 04 over 5 M.B. R.G.A. 53, ribbed iron grip, contained in its brass mounted brown leather MKII scabbard. Some salt and pepper pitting towards the tip of the blade. Interestingly five guns of the 5th Mountain Battery RGA were present at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle as part of the Indian Corps and were in position to provide direct fire on German positions in support of 7th and 8th Divisions of IV Corps, losing one gun to enemy fire. The Mountain Artillery generally was deemed to have been lacking in effect due to the absence of any High Explosive shells, the shrapnel shells being ineffective against fortified positions. Menelik II (1844-1913) reigned from 1889-1913 confronting and defeating the Italians in their attempts to expand their empire. See Islamic and Native Weapons of Colonial Africa 1800-1960 by Anthony C. Tiri, pages Figures 2-8 on page 72.
