The 80cm slightly curved bright blade by ‘Larcom & Veysey, Queen St. Portsmouth’, single fuller and etched with a crowned fouled anchor, the Royal Arms and panels of scrolling foliage, solid gilt brass handguard incorporating the crowned fouled anchor, lion’s head and mane pommel and backstrap, wire bound white fish skin hand grip. The turndown locking plate engraved ‘C. E. C. Child RN’; together with its gilt brass bound black leather scabbard; and a black japanned metal Royal Navy uniform tin supplied by ‘Larcom & Veysey’ with brass name plaque ‘C. E. C. Victorian 1827 Pattern Rifle Regiment Officers' sword with steel Gothic hilt, etched fullered blade in steel mounted leather scabbard (chape lacking )Condition report: Sword blade is worn as shown in the photographs it retains almost no original finish. There is no evidence of naming or engraved Regimental Crests to the blade. The chape is missing from the scabbard and the central mount is loose but present, the hilt is sound but is worn to the same degree as the blade, the grip is / was shagreen and has been 'modified' / spoilt with the addition of gold paint, the shagreen can be seen in areas beneath it

The sword with honey suckle hilt, etched fullered blade with Rycroft crest and W.H.R. Initials, crowned V.R. Cipher and scrolls, retaining most original polish in steel scabbard. Rycroft had a distinguished career and fought in numerous campaigns including Egypt 1884, Sudan 1887, India Frontier Expedition 1897, Commanded 11th Hussars in South Africa 1900-1901, Somaliland 1903, Staff Officer First World War (mentioned in despatches seven times), Black Sea Command, Irish Command and finely Governor of British North Borneo . Sold with Wilkinson archive extract and Peter Dale Ltd information card and other records. A fine sword with a fascinating history.
