Two Indian swords (tulwar), each with characteristic steel hilt having short button terminal quillons and disc pommels: the first with 31.5 in. blade inlaid with inscription in gold, the hilt profusely decorated with flower heads in gold koftgari, fluted grip and serpentine knuckle bow; the other with broad 31 in. blade, plain hilt with knuckle bow and pineapple finial to the pommel, leather covered scabbard. A Omani sword (kattara), double edged blade 32.5 in. with rounded tip; silver repousse mounted hilt with leather grip; leather covered scabbard with silver repousse mounts en suite to the hilt and comprising locket, chape and four bands, the first and second bands with suspension rings and a short leather strap.
A fine Indian dagger (katar), triangular wootz steel blade 8.5 in. with broad converging fullers and swollen point, steel hilt embellished allover with a geometric and foliate design in gold koftgari, slender side bars, double transverse grips swelling at the mid-points, later red fabric covered scabbard.
λ A massive Persian dagger (jambiya), curved double edged watered steel blade 23 in. with swollen point and broad fullers forming a medial ridge, forte chiseled with kneeling figures and fruit in bowls to a silver koftgari border; horn hilt of waisted form; steel scabbard chiseled over its entire surface with panels inhabited by kneeling figures, wild beasts and foliage, a band of text at the mouth.
South Indian edged weapons (4): a dagger (chillanum), double edged blade 26.5 in., iron hilt with long crosspiece echoed by the form of the pommel, hide scabbard; another dagger (chillanum), double-curved blade, iron hilt with down-swept arms at top and base and with a ball pommel, hide scabbard; a South Indian sword, slender spatulate blade 38 in. iron hilt with swollen grip and flaring pommel; and another sword (firangi), slender single edged blade with so-called 'Hindu-basket; hilt. A British 1885 pattern cavalry trooper's sword, fullered blade 34.5 in., sheet steel guard with 'Maltese Cross' piercing, replacement wooden grips, steel scabbard; together with two Mexican cavalry trooper's swords, slightly curved blades 33.25 in., Republic of Mexico markings to the ricassos, brass three bar hilts, steel scabbards. A Second World War Japanese officer's sword, with a single edged blade, cast and pierced tsuba and a bound shagreen handle, together with a similar Katana, 65.5cm blade length, and a Japanese flag with script, 70 x 97cm (3)Extract from Captain Peter Toole's account of his experience in the 1944-45 Burma campaign: 'Along the road we came across the remains of an HQ of some sort. Our infantry had passed through to consolidate the position leaving the site open for booty-seekers. I found two Jap swords and a flag, By the time I got back to the company, word had got round and the infantry, quite properly, felt the swords were their's as trophies for capturing the position. Phil Hatch adjudicated, they kept one, I the other and the flag.'Condition report: Sword tarnishing and minor rusting to blade, indentations to blade, mount missing to scabbard and minor wear and blemishes. Katana has damage to handle, rusted blade with indentations to edge, flag has staining and tears.The example with the bound handle has character marks to the tang, please see the additional images. The other example has two pins to the hilt, unfortunately, due to oxidisation these are very stiff and we have not been able to remove the hilt to access the tang. Versilberte Hilze mit Filigrandekor und reichem Besatz aus Korallen und Türkisen. En suite verzierte Scheide aus Kupferblech, rückseitige Schriftkartusche, zwei bewegliche Trageringe. Länge 87 cm.Zustand: II -An Ottoman kilij set with corals, 19th century The typically shaped blade in Damascus steel with a chiselled spine, pronounced yelman and gold inlays on the obverse, reverse and the chased back of the blade. Filigree on the silver-plated grip, lavishly set with corals and turquoises. The copper foil scabbard embellished en suite, an inscription cartouche on the reverse, two movable suspension rings. Silbertauschierter Kinzal, Kaukasus, Ende 19. Jhdt. Zweischneidige Klinge mit beidseitiger Gratung und abgesetztem Ansatz. Griffschalen aus dunklem Horn, die eisernen Griffnieten schauseitig mit erhabenen Silbertauschierungen dekoriert. Mit feinem Chagrinleder bezogene hölzerne Scheide, die eiserne Tragespange und der Knauf mit erhaben in Silber tauschiertem Rankendekor. Beimesser fehlt. Länge 52 cm.Zustand: I - IIA Caucasian silver-inlaid kindjal, late 19th century Double-edged blade with fullers on both sides and offset root. The grip scales made of dark horn, the iron grip rivets embellished with raised silver inlays on the front. The wooden scabbard covered in fine shagreen leather, the iron suspension bar and pommel with raised, decorative tendrils inlaid in silver. The by-knife has been lost. Length 52 cm.Condition: I - II
Kinzal, Persien, 19. Jhdt. Zweischneidige Klinge mit mittigem Zug, daneben beidseitig zwei flache Hohlkehlen mit reicher, vollflächiger floraler Goldtausia, Schneiden etwas beschliffen. Typisch geformter Griff aus fein geschnittenem Eisen mit leichter, etwas beriebener Goldtausia. En suite gearbeitete Scheide mit figuralem und floralem Dekor. Länge 53 cm.Zustand: II -A Persian kindjal, 19th century The double-edged blade with a central groove, flanked on both sides by two shallow fullers, covered in lavish floral gold inlays, the cutting edges somewhat ground. The finely chased iron grip of characteristic shape with simple, slightly abraded gold inlays. The scabbard decorated en suite with figurative and floral décor. Length 53 cm.Condition: II -

Leicht geschwungene Rückenklinge aus Wootz-Damast mit angedeuteter Ferse, terzseitig entlang des Klingenrückens sowie am Ansatz ausführliche Inschrift, die sich auf die Herrscher der seinerzeit indischen Provinz Sindh bezieht, beidseitig dazu je ein Medaillon, im Ortbereich leicht narbig. Typisch geformtes Gefäß mit langem Mitteleisen und vollflächiger Goldtausia. Samtbezogene Scheide mit vergoldetem Ortblech. Länge 93 cm.Zustand: II -A magnificent Indian gold-inlaid tulwar, 18th century The slightly curved, single-edged blade forged in wootz-Damascus with indicated heel, a lengthy inscription on the obverse running along the back of the blade and at the root, referring to the rulers of Sindh, at that time an Indian province, with a medallion on each side, light pitting at the chape. The hilt of characteristic shape with a long crosspiece and lavish gold inlays. The velvet-covered scabbard with a gilt chape. Length 93 cm.Condition: II -
A GOOD PATTERN 1897 BRITISH INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD WITH DEDICATION INSCRIPTION, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number, dated for 1911, with straight spear-point 32 3/4in. blade etched with arabesques, crowns and coat of arms, 'GRV' device, broad blind fullers, nickel-plated half basket hilt pierced with honeysuckle leaves and the device of 'GRV', the outer face of the thumb-guard inscribed 'PRESENTED TO F.S. FLETCHER ESQ. BY THE MEMBERS OF THE SERG'TS MESS, Ist C.B.R.F. 16.10.1911', sharkskin grip with wire binding, chequered back-strap and domed pommel, complete with its leather field knot, leather scabbard and nickel-plated dress scabbard (minor spot-stains only). A JAPANESE WORLD WAR TWO SHIN-GUNTO MOUNTED KATANA WITH SIGNED BLADE, the 26in. blade almost certainly a smith-made arsenal example (some mild speckled staining), the 'hamon' barely visible but extending around the kissaki, silver washed 'habaki', cast carved and moulded 'tsuba', signature to both sides of tang, push-button scabbard lock, cotton bound ray-skin covered 'tsuka' and leather covered 'saya', 39 3/4in. overall, weight in scabbard approx. 3 7/8lbs..
