There is minor wear to the gilding on the hilt. The gilding is worn to the mounts of the leather scabbard which has surface crazing and a crease above the shoe.

Gieve & Son, Naval Outfitters, Portsmouth'', the gothic style gilt brass hilt with folding guard, engraved ''H.S. Bland R.N.'', cast with crowned fouled anchor, lion head pommel with extended mane, wire bound fishskin style grip, gilt thread bullion knot, brass-mounted black leather scabbard, twin suspension rings Footnote: Sub-Lieut. Horatio Skene Bland of H.M.S. Beagle was the eldest son of Capt. Horatio Bland (formerly of the King's Own Scottish Borderers) of Caunton Manor, Newark, Notts. He was educated at Stubbington School, Fareham, Hants. Passing into the ''Britannia'' in July 1894 he was promoted Midshipman in November 1896 and Sub-Lieutenant in 1900. He was drowned, age 21, in the act of landing at Seal Island, Mossel Bay, Cape Colony on Sept. 29th, 1901. He is buried at Mossel Bay cemetery.Blade with scattered patches of rust and slight pitting. Gilding to hilt generally worn. Grip possibly a replacement. Bullion knot worn. Scabbard with slight areas of loss to finish but generally good though possibly associated.

A British 1796 Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword by Daw, Birmingham, the 89cm single edge fullered steel blade stamped with a crown over 11, the back edge stamped DAW, BIRM, and B in two places, the circular steel guard pierced with eight holes, with lozenge shape strengthening plate, two langets, ribbed black leather grip, the steel two ring scabbard faintly engraved C/37/D7G Some rust pitting and black patching to the metalwork of the sword and scabbard. The blade edge has been groundt at the ricasso and has two large nicks 11cm and 22cm from the tip, it has a slight curve when viewed from the hilt. The scabbard has three small dents.

Pillin, 31, Gerrard Street, Soho, London, length 87 cm, numbered 98812 to the back, etched Royal cypher amongst foliage and other ornamental devices, pierced, plated hilt incorporating crowned Royal cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, steel scabbard with twin ring suspensions; an Edwardian 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, named to H.W. Holt, the etched blade by G.E. Carrington, Old Brompton & London, the back numbered 8691, with leather-covered scabbard (2)1895 Pattern sword - Overall light rusting and pitting to blade. Plating worn to hilt. Slight damage, wear and bleaching to grip. Scabbard with some dents and overall rust. 1897 Pattern sword - Blade significantly rusted. Hilt with overall rust. Grip fairly poor. Scabbard poor overall.
