After serving in the First World War, Fretter-Pico (1892-1966) remained in service in the years between the two wars. Promoted on March 1, 1941 to General Major, he took command on April 19, 1941 of the 97 light infantry division. During the operations that culminated with the taking of Stalino, an important industrial city, on 16 October 1941, the force commanded by Fretter-Pico was able to cooperate, also together with the first gebirgsdivision, in close synergy with an Italian formation, the 63° CCNN legion of assault 'Tagliamento', in an atmosphere of profitable and comradely collaboration. The joint Italian-German mixed team cooperated closely until the so-called 'Christmas Battle' at the end of 1941. Probably the sword is a gift offered by the General Staff to Fretter-Pico during those months of hard victorious efforts. The fact remains that the General later had other Italian departments under his direct control. on December 27, 1941 the XXX Armee Korps was formed, with the name of 'Armee- Abteilungen FRETTER-PICO', formed by: 3 gebirgs division, third infantry division 'Ravenna', grouping CCNN XXIII March, 'Schuld brigade', 'Kampf gruppe Nagel', 304 infantry division 'Kampfgruppe Kreysing'. The dagger follows the shapes of the mod. 1925 of M.V.S.N. later adopted until 1935 by the Musketeers of the Duce. Significant and interesting is the dedication with which the leaders of the Voluntary National Security Militia claim the decisive participation of the armed arm of Fascism in the conquest of the Empire. The fascist regime of Benito Mussolini, which came to power after the world war, manifested its intention to expand the possessions of the kingdom and satisfy the demands of the irredentists. In 1934 Cyrenaica and Tripolitania were united in Italian Libya; with the war of 1935-36 Italy conquered Ethiopia, which was united with Eritrea and Somalia to give birth to Italian East Africa. On this occasion Victor Emmanuel III of Italy assumed the imperial title of Ethiopia and the birth of the Italian Empire was officially proclaimed (1936-1943). length 32 cm.
