As issued to Lieutenant Arthur Francis Sherard Veasey of No. 3 Commando, his initials to the rear of the scabbard. A rare item. No. 3 Commando was a battalion-sized Commando unit raised by the British Army during the Second World War. Formed in July 1940 from volunteers for special service, it was the first such unit to carry the title of "Commando". Shortly afterwards the unit was involved in a largely unsuccessful raid upon the German-occupied Channel Island of Guernsey.

Two early to mid 20th Century Middle Eastern Jambiya daggers to include; Yemeni Khanjar having a polished yellow faturan amber like shaped hilt with ridged curved blade and leather scabbard along with a Syrian Jambiya dagger horn hilt with silver white metal decoration, double edged recurve blade and a brass and red leather scabbard. Measures; 33cm overall.
British Naval Officers Pattern 1827 Sword, English, c.1900, 80cm straight flat backed single fuller spear pointed blade, the last 23cm double edged, blade polished and frost etched, one side with crowned fouled anchor, some foliate designs, and a brass proof disc next to hilt, the other side royal coat of arms, scrolling foliage, makers name 'J Gieve & Son, Naval Outfitters Portsmouth' (traded from 44 Fore Street Devonport between 1900-1906), solid brass gothic-style hilt, with cartouche displaying a crowned fouled anchor, inner folding guard, engraved with the owners name 'H.S. Bland RN', lion-headed pommel, with extended mane, a white shagreen grip with brass wire, original blue and gold sword knot, original black leather scabbard has brass furniture fittings, and two attached ring hangers. Overall in excellent condition, with only very minor rust spots on the edge of the blade, sword complete with some historical documentation. Notes: There is extensive research documentation regarding the history of the owner, who was a Sub Lieutenant on HMS Beagle, a twin screw sloop in May 1901. Sadly, he died in a drowning accident in September 1901.
