Their sinuous bodies are intertwined and detailed with finely incised lines. China, Western Han, 2nd – 1st century BCPublished: Filippo Salviati, 4000 Years of Chinese Archaic Jades, 2017, pp. 315-317, no. 318 (material erroneously described as agate).Scientific Analysis Report: A signed and stamped report from the Gemmological Laboratory Austria (GLA), no. 57382-2, dated 17 November 2022, confirms that the present lot is nephrite jade. A copy of this report accompanies this lot.The present lot is a complete set of jade sword fittings, comprising a pommel (shou) of circular form, a sword guard (ge), a scabbard chape (bi) of trapezoidal form and a scabbard slide (zhi).Each of the four pieces in the set is decorated with a pair of dragons. A taotie-type mask is also carved in low relief on the backs of the guard and the chape. The underside of the pommel is incised with small interconnected scrolls in relief around a stylized four-petal flower. The workmanship is of the highest level and the jade is mostly white with some russet nuances.Weapon fittings in jade developed in the Eastern Zhou period and reached their climax during the following Han dynasty, when entire sets made of several jades were used to embellish the swords of aristocrats.DIAMETER 6.4 cm (the pommel), WIDTH 6.6 cm (the sword guard), WIDTH 6.9 cm (the scabbard chape), LENGTH 10.5 cm (the scabbard slide),Provenance: Private Collection of Irene and Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022).Condition report: Very good condition, commensurate with age, with old wear, minor nibbling to edges, few minuscule nicks, and remnants of soil in the recesses issuing from an extended period of burial. The stone with natural fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.
Important Indian double-edged sword.Ê The blade has a slightly widened tip and is made of finely grained Wootz damask. The back of the blade and ricasso is embellished with openwork iron overlays with rich inlays of fine gold. It has a characteristic riveted handle clamp with all-over floral gold inlays. The iron bow hilt has well-preserved all-over gold inlays. The hilt is still has its original red damask covering. The wooden scabbard is covered in yellow textile. It also has solid gold fittings with finely openwork and floral decorations. The blade shows some nibbles to the edge. Blade length 70.5cm from tip to end of tang. Various condition issues across the sword including the tsuba, the grip and handle, and the scabbard. Third Reich SA (Sturmabteilung) dress dagger by Ernst Pack & Sohn, early model, the 22cms double edged blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and makers trade mark to the reverse. the hilt with brown wooden grip having SA device and nickel silver eagle inserted, the SA emblem retains much of the enamel, grip mounts with the lower guard being stamped ‘Nrh’, fitted anodised scabbard with single hanging ring to the top mount with leather frog, 38cms long overall.
An early 19th Century Volunteer flintlock Baker rifle, by Ketland, probably 1823 pattern, the 76cms barrel with bayonet mount and sites above a metal ramrod with swivel loop at fore-end, the lock engraved 'W Ketland' and 'GR' over crown, fitted brass furniture with '118' stamped to top of butt cap, 115cms long overall; together with a Baker rifle sword bayonet, the 55cms blade on brass hilt with ribbed grip, stamped '103' to pommel, no scabbard, 68cms long overall.

A George V Royal Navy 1827 pattern Officer's sword, by Mathews & Company, Portsea, the 81cms blade etched with the Royal coat of arms, anchor and leaf scrolls, the gilt brass hilt with wire-bound shagreen grip and lion head pommel, fitted brass mounted leather scabbard and knott, 95cms long overall.
