A scarce Vic officer's sword of the Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers, unusual double fullered, Scottish type blade 32½", by Turner Bros, Bath, etched in scrolled fenestrated panels, with crowned fouled anchor and "RNAS" on one side and crowned foliate VR cypher on the other, gilt brass half basket hilt, incorporating crowned fouled anchor and "RNAS" with turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion's head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, in its leather scabbard with scroll engraved gilt brass locket, middle band and chape, 2 rings. GC, retaining some original polish to blade and gilt to hilt and mounts.

A Siamese "elephant" dagger, plain SE blade 10½", elaborate brass hilt, the floral embossed crossguard with prominent downturned dragon's head quillons, divided knucklebow with upturned elephant's trunk lower part and downward trunk upper part from elephant's head pommel with red glass eyes, ivory grips, in its brass scabbard with painted panelled top, middle band and chape. A Third Reich Army officer's sword, plated blade 31½" by WKC, the brass hilt having applied army eagle on one langet, the other langet with integral escutcheon within oak wreath, the knucklebow and backstrap embossed with oak leaves and foliage, the lion's head pommel having red glass eyes, with black plastic covered grip (wire binding missing) and black painted scabbard (throat mount missing). Basically GC (the hilt mis-shapen and tarnished, the scabbard paint crazed).
A Vic Rifle Regt officer's sword, slightly curved fullered blade 32½", etched in plain foliate panels, with crowned VR cypher on one end and strung bugle on the other, regulation steel hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel mounted black leather scabbard with 2 rings. GC (dark patina to hilt and scabbard mounts, some light rust spots to blade).
A courtsword of Ludwig of Bavaria (1864-1886), slender flattened hexagonal section blade, 31½", by Jos. Reiss, etched with trophies and foliage, ornamental gilt hilt with lion and lion's heads shell guard, crossguard and floral/foliate panelled knucklebow, lion's head pommel, and grip with MOP panels, the outer one bearing gilt crowned "L" in rayed oval. A good 19th century Omani sword kattara from Zanzibar. Broad straight DE blade 77cms cut with a short shallow fuller, leather grip entirely covered with woven silver tape and wire, tall silver pommel, in its leather covered scabbard with decorative string work, fitted with silver chape and twin hanging bands chiselled with flowering foliage en suite (locket missing). A Burmese sword dha. c.1900, curved SE blade 63cms slightly swollen towards the tip and entirely covered on both sides with silver damascened figures mostly fighting with swords on one side and all with extensive inscriptions overall (presumably narrating a well-known Burmese tale) the hilt with iron grip silver damascened with similar but larger figures (some rust damage to damascene) and with silver mounts including a lotus bud pommel finial, in its wooden scabbard covered with alternate bands of nickel and brass wire-work inlaid on lac, red sash cord. An Indonesian short sword parang. Second half of the 19th century, slightly curved SE pattern welded blade 52cms, swollen hilt made from a silver/copper alloy embossed and chased with alternate bands of foliage en suite with the scabbard mounts, wooden scabbard with fine rattan bindings (incomplete). A Buginese sword alamang from Sulawesi (Java) c.1900. Broad SE blade 50.5cms (cleaned bright with edge nicks), horn hilt formed as a silhouette of a rhino's head, silver ferule, it its wooden scabbard with bamboo bindings and 2 silver mounts (horn top to scabbard missing). A 1796 pattern light cavalry trooper's sword, curved, shallow fullered blade 32½", with maker's name "Gill" on backstrap, regulation steel stirrup hilt with langets, plain forward sloping pommel and backstrap with "ears" to dark ribbed grip (chipped at top), in steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (dark pitting to hilt and scabbard, blade reseated)
A good cut steel hilted courtsword, slender, hollow triangular section blade 31" by J.B. & F. Wells, 24 Condiut St. London, etched for half length with scrolls and foliage, including a trophy of drum, halberd and flag on the inner side, nicely studded and cut steel hilt with turn down shell guard, token pas d'ane rings, crossguard and quillon, knucklebow into urn pommel, slender swollen grip, in its black PL scabbard with line engraved top mount, middle bud and chape, with 2 rings. An early 19th century constabulary type sidearm, curved, flat blade 26", with back fuller, brass stirrup hilt with crossguard and quillon, knucklebow, plain pommel and backstrap, ribbed leather grip (wire missing), in its leather scabbard (repair to centre) with brass locket and frog stud, and chape. Basically GC (hilt a little mis-shapen).
A long Chinese sword jian. Straight DE nicely watered blade 77.5cms inlaid with 7 pierced copper ornaments, incised at the forte with 3 character inscription on each side, hilt and scabbard with matching cast pierced brass mounts and both covered with imitation green stained fish skin. GC (not old).
A 19th cent French mourning sword, hollow triangular section blade 30½", marked "Coulaux et Cie, Klingenthal" at forte, darkened brass hilt, shallow ovoid dish guard with pierced and scalloped border, shallow pas d'ane rings, flattened crossguard, quillon and knucklebow into urn pommel, slightly swollen grip, the hilt panelled and studded overall, in its leather scabbard with plain locket and ring, and chape with stud tip. GC, with a pleasing patina.
An unusual Indian fakir's crutch dagger. 19th century, wavy kris blade 38cms fluted at the top and with faint pamor, gilt copper hilt and sheath mounts, the former with tapered octagonal grip and lion's head top supporting the u-shaped crutch with lotus bud finials, scabbard mounts with comma-shaped openings, scabbard covered with green stained ass skin. An unusual S.E.Asian miniature hunting hanger. 19th century, slender curved SE blade 17cms (slightly distorted), engraved brass mounts including down-turned guard, later European agate cutlery handle hilt, in its brass mounted scabbard covered with imitation tortoise shell. GC (agate hilt and scabbard covering damaged).
An Imperial German officer's sword, blade 34" etched with foliage, weapons, classical figures, lion mask and Imperial eagle, the brass stirrup hilt embossed with crossed cannon, classical helmet and trophies on the knucklebow, crossed swords and vacant shield on the langets, and lion mask pommel and quillon terminal, with wire bound sharkskin covered grip, in its steel scabbard with brass ring mounts and traces of nickel plating. A good Tibetan sword, 18th or 19th century. Straight SE blade 84cms with typical hatchet point, forged with 'hair pin' pattern (thur) of 6 dark lines, pierced iron pommel, ferule and scabbard edges covered with gold damascene, guard with down-turned edges gold damascened en suite, silver wire bound grip, the front of the scabbard fitted with 2 rectangular panels of gilt copper embossed and chased with lotus flowers, 3 small central panels en suite 2 of which support hanging brackets, the pommel and scabbard set with 4 stones, the front and back of the scabbard covered with patterned fabric. An officer's full dress sword, c 1850, of the Life Guards, straight fullered blade 32½" by Buckmaster, 3 New Burlington St, London etched on both sides with crowned ornamental VR cypher and foliage, gilt hilt with heart shaped shell guard, plain flared quillon and knucklebow which screws into flattened ball pommel with prominent stud top, swollen simulated silver wirebound grip, in its black leather scabbard with plain gilt locket with belt hook, and chape. GC, retaining approx 60% gilt (some wear/pitting to blade). Plate 9
A Turkish sword yataghan. c.1800, blade inlaid with extensive silver inscriptions mostly comprising poetry and including 4 inscribed roundels, silver with filigree decoration and set with fluted corals and beads, in a later scabbard with tinned brass mounts.
