AN ENGLISH LIGHT CAVALRY LIGHT SABRE SWORDThomas Gill, 1796 Pattern The blade engraved Thos' Gills' Warranted Never to Fail', with steel scabbard, 96cm longThomas Gill (1744-1801) was a Birmingham swordsmith of the late 18th Century supplying the army during the Napoleonic Wars. He promoted British made swords, as opposed to those made in Germany. His blades were toughened and tested, carrying his warranty. Condition report: Inevitable scuffs, scratches and marks commensurate with wear, use and age.A few small minor dents but only minor. The scabbard is 87cm long approx. The blade 85cm long. the blade is 4cm wide at its broadest towards the tip and and 3.5cm towards the top.

The blade is free from any knicks or chips. The associated decorated aluminium components are in good condition, free from any damage or previous repair. The composite grip is in fair condition however there are numerous pieces missing and there have been knocks over the years. The wire binding is in good condition, likewise the scabbard. A Late 19th Century Continental Swordstick, 19.5ins bright steel cruciform blade, with a leather covered hilt, cane scabbard, with brass end tip, 35ins overallThe item presents in condition commensurate with age and moderate usage. The blade itself is in good condition, there is some pitting in general again commensurate with age but no obvious sign of damage. The handle is leather bound and appears to be in good order. The hidden fastening clasp is present but does not function correctly. The main body of the stick is in good condition, the brass insert being in good condition, likewise the ferrule at the tip. Overall an honest example. Prospective bidders are strongly advised to study all images carefully prior to bidding as they form part of the condition report.
