A GEORGIAN PRESENTATION OFFICER'S MAMELUKE OF WATERLOO INTEREST, 82.5cm broad clipped back curved blade decorated with scrolling foliage, stands of arms, crowned Royal arms and crowned GR cypher, all highlighted in gilt, characteristic gilt hilt, the cross guard chiselled with acanthus scrolls, the back strap with laurel leaves and berries, two-piece riveted ivory gripped, some repairs, contained in its gilt mounted plated scabbard, engraved Presented to Major Brabasin Disney 23rd Light Dragoons. Brabazon (Brabasin) Disney was appointed Coronet 19th September 1811 and as a Lt-Colonel on the 31st of August 1830. Brabazon fought with the 11th Light Dragoons during the Peninsula 1811-13, El-Bodon, Salamanca and Burgos and with the 23rd Light Dragoons at Quatre Bras and Waterloo where he was wounded. The misspelling of the Brabazon/Brabasin name features in period documents including Battle of Waterloo by Lieut-General Scott in 1815 and Christopher Kelly Esquire in 1818. Sold with a comprehensive selection of copied paperwork to include a frank and detailed account of the battle at Waterloo detailed in a letter to his father.

Edwin B. Johnson was appointed first Lieutenant on the 26th of August 1845. See pages 368 to 371 Small Arms of the East India Company by Harding. Blade sharpened for use and with edge nicks. Johnson's unit took part in the First and Second Sikh Wars and served on the North West Frontier.
