A Geo IV 1822 pattern infantry officer’s sword, curved pipe backed blade 32½”, etched with crowned “GR” reversed and interlaced, “IV” and wreath in small panels on each side, regulation hilt with turn down inner portion, and incorporating crowned GRIV cypher, forward sloping stepped pommel, ornamental backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip (one or two loose strands), in its black PL scabbard with engraved mounts and 2 rings. GC, a nice example, the blade retaining some original polish, the hilt and mounts with a little original gilt (small pitting patches to blade edges, scabbard leather some crazing). Plate 9

A post 1902 RN officer’s sword, straight slender fullered blade 31”, etched with R Arms, and crowned fouled anchor within rope bordered oak wreath panels, regulation gilt half basket hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor, and with turn down side guard which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel, wirebound sharkskin grip, with blue and gilt dress knot, in its brass mounted leather scabbard and oilskin cover; together with black leather sword belt and slings, gilt WBC. Near VGC, the blade retaining virtually all original polish.

GWO & C, the metalwork generally crisp with original finish; with COD dated Sept 1995; complete with leather sling, bayonet in steel scabbard, leather pouch with carrying strap containing cleaning tools, and leather magazine pouch containing 3 original Waffenamt marked magazines. Basically GC (blade some wear, hilt and scabbard rusted).

A 1786 pattern infantry officer’s sword, SE fullered blade 32”, marked “J J Runkel, Solingen” on backstrap, and etched with crowned GR cypher, R Arms, stylized pineapple and foliage, blued and gilt for one third length, brass stirrup hilt, retaining a little original gilt, with crossguard and wavy sideloop enclosing a pierced heart, ring to top of knucklebow, facetted swollen pommel, chequered panelled ebony grip with central band engraved in oval on the outer side with crowned “LLV” (Loyal Lancaster, Leyland, Lynn?) and the inner side with owner’s initials “T.P”, in its brass mounted leather scabbard (repaired) with 2 rings, the locket engraved “Bennett, Sword Cutler to the Prince of Wales, 67 Royal Exchange”. GC, the blade retaining approx 75% original blueing and gilding and polish (light pitting marks to edges). Plate 9
A Vic 1845 pattern infantry officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered, blade 32½”, by Wilkinson no 7429 (for 1855) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher in tightly scrolled panels on both sides, and owner’s name “Lieutenant Henry St Maur Wynch” in scrolls near forte, regulation brass hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in associated brass scabbard (sword does not fully enter) with 2 rings. Basically GC (worn overall, scabbard dented)
