A Georgian presentation sword, the blade deeply etched for its full length with royal cypher, crest and martial trophies, the presentation inscription includes 'Presented by the Non Commissioned Officers and Privates of the ....... Gladium Qui Merait Ferat' and with traces of blued and gilt decoration. The hilt and scabbard retain some original fire gilding, the ivory grip with silver wire binding. The inscription, which is tantalisingly indistinct, might repay very careful examination
A very fine presentation sword, 'From the officers and privates of the East Maylor Volunteers to John Welch, Adjutant, as a testimony of approbation of his zealous services for six years. 1808.' Manufactured by Woolley Deakin & Dutton, Birmingham to the highest specifications, the blade retains all its blued and gilt decoration, and the mounts all their original bright fire gilding. The knucklebow is pierced and chased with an elaborate martial trophy, the ivory grip is inlaid with gold. The scabbard mounts are elaborately chased with martial trophies and the royal arms. Contained in its silk lined mahogany box. The sword is preserved in almost mint condition.
