Report by RB No visible maker's mark to the sheaths. Report by GH There is no marking on the press stud itself or anywhere else on the knife indicating that it is Fairbairn & Sykes, with the exception of on the blade near the hilt where it says the F-S fighting knife. There are also no markings to the leather scabbard. The overall appearance of the metal and the leather scabbard cause into question the authenticity.

NESS No 1 Comy LSVR (indistinct but reasonably legible), chequered small and fore, buckskin sling, screwed steel barrel bands, with correct pattern triangular socket bayonet in its brass mounted leather scabbard. Barrel refinished, some light pitting to iron parts, stock well refinished, good condition. Overall 55.5”, barrel 39”.

Borneo Head Hunters Sword Mandau, 20th century, polished blade inlaid with copper and brass stars and discs, bone hilt carved with stylised dragons, woven bamboo covered grip, in its wooden scabbard with bone mounts and woven bamboo belt. Good condition.

Regulation guard with crowned VR, wire bound fish skin covered grip, in leather covered scabbard. Worn overall, tip of blade moderately pitted, scabbard leather incomplete. Wilkinson’s ledger records ‘25758, Infantry, April 1884 Sold to M.C.Coles’.

British Constabulary Sidearm, un-cleaned brass mounted sidearm with button release to  the reverse. Curved blade with remains of the original etching visible, S.C. No 36. Some light surface rusting to the blade. Complete with the original brass mounted leather scabbard. Top scabbard chape is stamped 17. Some scuffing to the scabbard and small area of damage to the grip. 

Lot 67

British 1803 Infantry Officers Sword with curved blade etched with crowned GR cipher, foliage and military trophies. The etching is in gilt but the blued panel  that originally would have been on the blade is now absent. Regulation pattern grip with Lion head  pommel and crowned GR to the guard. Much of the original gilt remains to the handle. Housed in its original leather scabbard with brass mount fittings. Leather scabbard has shrunk and gilt metal fittings are now a little loose. Some surface staining to the blade. Blade measures approx 30 ¼ inches. 

Lot 72

Victorian 1897 Levee Pattern Sword by Wilkinsons, blade is numbered to the spine 36293. Blade is etched with foliage and Royal cipher. Forte has Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall. Regulation pierced guard with crown VR. Grip retains the original wire. Sword is housed in the original scabbard. Exterior of the sword shows surface rusting and is in need of cleaning. Blade has been tipped. Blade measures 32 inches.

Lot 77

British Edward VII Infantry Officers 1897 Pattern Sword, 32 ¼ inch blade etched with foliage and Royal ciphers. Crudely engraved in the panel, CAPT W G OFFICER DUKE OF WELLINGTONS REGT, other side engraved O M 1 DWR. Regulation hilt with cipher for Edward VII. Grip retains the original wire. Housed in its brown leather covered field service scabbard.

British 1827 Pattern Rifle Officers Sword, with Victorian crowned strung bugle within the guard. Grip retains the original wire. Tied to the guard is the original officers knot. Blade is etched with foliage, strung bugle and Victorian crowned cipher. Blade measures 32 ½ inches. Complete with the original dress scabbard.

British George V 1897 Pattern Warrant Officers Sword, complete with its original brown leather field service scabbard and leather sword knot. Regulation hilt with pierced decoration and George V cipher. Plain 33 ½ inch blade. WD Stamp and acceptance stamp to the forte. Edge of the blade is numbered 689. Some wear to the leather scabbard with the lower section being replaced.

Scarce 1827 Pattern Royal Navy Dockyard Battalion Officers Sword, lion head pommel with gilt metal dish guard having Victorian crowned fouled anchor. Grip retains the original wire. Blade is etched to one side with foliage and large Anchor to the centre with Royal Dockyard Battalion above, and the other side having foliage and crowned cipher. Some light surface staining and corrosion to the blade. Complete with the original brass mounted leather scabbard, having Wilkinson makers tablet on the reverse of the top chape. Blade measures 31 inches.

Lot 85

1827 Pattern Royal Navy Officers Sword, with lion head pommel and gilt metal dish guard having crowned fouled anchor to the centre. Guard retains much of the original fire gilt finish. Reverse of the sword has fold down securing catch plate. Officers bullion knot to the grip. Housed in its leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts, lower fitting is now absent. Blade has the remains of the etched decoration. Blade is heavily worn and corroded. Blade measures 31 inches.

Lot 86

1827 Pattern Royal Navy Officers Sword, with lion head pommel and gilt metal dish guard having kings crown fouled anchor to the centre. Original fish skin grip has the wire binding. Fold down securing catch plate is engraved with the original owners name, E T SPROSON RN. Sword retains the original officers bullion sword knot. Blade is etched with foliage and crowned anchor. Gieves Matthews & Seagroves retailers mark to the forte. Blade shows some staining but is generally good condition. Blade measures 31 ½ inches. Sword is housed in the original leather scabbard and is accompanied by the original officers undress belt with original crowned anchor buckle.

Scarce Austrian M.1895 N.C.O’s Knife Bayonet, polished fullered blade 9.5” hooked quillon, 2-piece riveted wooden grips, in its black painted steel scabbard with inspector’s stamps, original leather frog and bullion dress knot; together with a further military style knife with saw back blade 5.5” in its black painted steel sheath. Good untouched condition.

CONDITION REPORT: The general condition of the dagger is commensurate with age, there is tarnish and some pitting throughout particularly to the scabbard.
