A 19th Century Court Sword, with 78.5cm triangular section plain fullered steel blade, the cut steel hilt with shell guard, panelled grip, knuckle and urn pommel applied with cut steel beads, with steel mounted black patent leather scabbard, 99cm; an Early 20th Century Court Sword, possibly Egyptian, with foliate etched blade, gilt metal foliate cast hilt with mother of pearl grip and shell guard pierced and cast with a sun rising over pyramids, with brass mounted leather scabbard, 92cm (2). 1 - Blade with patches of thick brown grease. Some pitting to metalwork. Cracking and scuffing to scabbard. 2 - Rust pitting to blade at the ricasso. The brass chape to the scabbard is loose.

Grey patching and pitting to all metalwork. The 1918 dated example is lacking its spring catch and has flaking to the original green paint on the scabbard mounts.

COPPEL, SOLINGEN, with brass grip and brass mounted leather scabbard, lacks chape; a French M1876 Gras Bayonet, with T section St Etienne blade, lacks scabbard; two French M1886 Epee Bayonets, each with cruciform blade, nickel grip and steel scabbard (4) . 1 - Grey patching and rust pitting to blade which originally had a saw tooth edge. The crossguard is deeply pitted. The steel spring clip is rusted. The scabbard is creased and shabby and is missing the chape. 2 - Patching and pitting to blade and crossguard, lacks scabbard. 3 - Both bayonets have patching to blades and rust pitting to scabbards which have a slight bend towards the tips

All swords with very significant condition issues, the third-listed with damages and losses to hilt. Firsthand inspection recommended.

An Imperial German Dress Sword, with 83.5 cm single edge, single-fullered plated blade, etched with foliage and other ornamental devices, the cast, gilt brass hilt with shell guard, relief with an Imperial eagle, and integral scrolling knucklebow, the foliage-cast baluster pommel above a wire bound grip, the leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts, remains of dress knot, late 19th / early 20th century. Blade with scattered rust patches. Eagle to guard with small losses. Gilding dirty but ripe for restoration. Scabbard leather somewhat dry but complete. Dress knot very poor.

Blade with areas of black patching and minor pitting. Hilt in good condition. Scabbard with minor bruising to surface of the leather and wear to the gilt mounts.

A German Third Reich RAD EM Hewer, the single edge fullered clip point steel blade etched `Arbeit adelt', with maker's mark of a squirrel within an oval panel for Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, with etched RJAD within a triangle over GES.GESCH, with two piece antler grip, black metal scabbard with German silver mounts engraved with strapwork and a spade centred by a swastika, 40cm; a Second World War No.4A Gas Mask, and canister in original bag (2). 1 - Some patching and crizzling to the blade. The paint is flaking on the scabbard and the chape has numerous small scratches and dings, otherwise in good untouched condition. 2 - Generally in good condition, although the straps have lost their elasticity

A Meiji Period Japanese Tanto Dagger, the 17cm single edge steel blade with straight narrow hamon, one piece burnished gilt metal habaki, the ivory hilt and scabbard well carved with figures standing, dancing with fans and kneeling beneath fir trees, 29.5cm. Black patching to blade. The ivory fuchi has three chips around the edge. Some wear to carved decoration and a small split at the mouth of the scabbard.

A Continental Court Sword by Coulaux & Cie, Klingenthal, the 76.5 cm fullered, triangular section steel blade etched with foliage and signed with maker's name, the cast and plated brass hilt and shell guard with fluted mother of pearl grip scales, the leather scabbard with plated mounts, 96cm. Blade good. Hilt and guard plating quite worn and with accumulated polish. One grip scale with broken corner. Scabbard split in two above chape. Some stitching also defective.

A Late 19th Century French Heavy Cavalry Officer's Sword, with 90 cm single edge curved and fullered steel blade, the brass triple bar hilt cast and chased with foliage, wire bound horn grip, the steel scabbard indistinctly engraved with initials and with twin ring suspensions, 110.5cm. Sword good overall. Scabbard with one small dent, otherwise good.

Lot 157

A Third Pattern Fighting Knife, with machine forged steel blade, oval steel crossguard and ribbed alloy grip, the leather scabbard embossed with a broad arrow and with brass chape; a Late Victorian Skein Dhu, the 11cm scallop back steel blade with clip-point, stamped J.MORTON, 223 OXFORD ST., the ebony grip carved on one side with basket weave, with silver mounted leather scabbard, hallmarks for Birmingham 1897 (2). 1 - Blade with copper finish. Wear to finish on alloy grip; 2 - Blade pitted and grey, pommel missing from grip which also has a chip above the blade. The leather scabbard is shabby and the silver chape is dented.

Blade with small area of corrosion and tiny nicks near tip. Crossguard slightly loose. Chain guard lacking. Scabbard with numerous small dents and dings.

Overall slight signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Otherwise good condition.

Blade with thick orange rust pitting to one side near the hilt. Wear to the gilding on the hilt and scabbard mounts. Cracking and crazing to the surface of the leather.

A Late 18th Century Court Sword, the 81.5cm diamond section half blued steel blade with 17cm narrow fuller leading from the hilt, one side engraved XX AMSTERDAM XX, the opposing side XX ANNO 1684 XX, the gilt brass stirrup hilt with beaded decoration the double shell guard, knuckle bow, grip and urn shape pommel, with gilt brass mounted shagreen scabbard (a.f) possibly an earlier blade. Orange rust patches to the blade, which has a slight bend at the tip. Possibly and earlier blade. The gilding is worn on the hilt and scabbard mounts. The pommel is missing its finial. the scabbard is broken in two pieces and is coming unstitched in places.

An Edwardian Court Sword, the 79.5 cm blade etched with Royal cypher, crossed standards, foliage and maker's name J.R.Gaunt & Son Ld., Late Edward Thurkle, 53, Conduit St, London W, the gilt brass hilt with bead cast decoration, shell guard and urn pommel, with gilt brass mounted leather scabbard and gold bullion sword knot, 95cm. Grey patching and pitting to blade. Some wear to gilding. Some cracking to the leather scabbard with small losses.

An 18th Century Continental Small Sword, the 74cm double edge steel blade, each side with flattened medial ridge, engraved with an armoured figure below the inscription Hipomius, the brass hilt with double shell guard, finger rings, scroll quillon, knuckle bow and cylindrical urn pommel all cast and chased with anthemion and scrolling tendrils, with coiled wire bound grip, lacks scabbard, 91.5cm. Black patching and light pitting to the blade, with small nicks to the edges. Wire binding to grip is a little loose. Lacks scabbard.

An Edwardian Court Sword, the 75cm plain steel blade with rounded tip, the brass hilt with bead cast decoration to the knuckle bow, double shell guard and urn pommel, 91cm, with nickel mounted leather scabbard; an 18th Century Small Sword for a Boy, with 58.5cm triangular section fullered steel blade, the brass hilt with double shell guard, knuckle bow and ovoid pommel all cast with figures, with plain wood grip, 72cm, lacks scabbard; an 18th Century Small Sword, with broken blade, steel hilt with double shell guard, lacks grip, lacks scabbard (3) . 1 - Blade grey patching. One quillon is broken off. Small dent to shoe of scabbard. 2 - Pitting to blade, with nicks to the edge. Qillon broken off. Crack to grip. Guard is wiggly. 3 - Rusted blade is cut down. Rust pitting to hilt, lacks grip.

An 18th Century Continental Sword, each side of the 79cm double edge steel blade engraved with a running deer/wolf and indistinct inscription, the gilt brass hilt with feather edged oval guard, finger rings, fluted quillons and knuckle bow, wrythen fluted ovoid pommel and fine copper wire bound grip, 97cm, lacks scabbard. Grey patching to blade. Wear to the gilding on the hilt.

A 19th Century Coastguard's Sword, with 63cm single edge curved fullered steel blade, the gilt brass stirrup hilt with single bar guard, scroll quillon and ribbed iron grip, the pommel marked 16, lacks scabbard, 75cm. Black patching and nicks to blade. Nicks to edge of crossguard. Gilding on hilt is worn.
