A WWII Japanese officer's sword katana with leather bound hilt and scabbard with pierced tsuba and fuchi kashira with gilt inlay depicting five warriors with flags, the blade engraved with a dragon chasing the pearl of wisdom to one side, the other with signature, length of blade 69cm, with authority for possession given to number EC 2722 Captain J.A. Hepburn and dated November 27 1945 and with 5th Indian Division headquarters stamp and General Staff signature. NB: J.A. Hepburn was the son of J.W. Hepburn in previous Lot 624.
A Japanese Katana and scabbard, Showa period. The blade with midare hamon, the tang marked for Ido Hidetoshi of Seki, Mino province (井戸 秀俊 Ido Hidetoshi). Fitted a black cord-wrapped ray skin (Samekawa) with chrysanthemum menuki and cloud etched iron tsuba. A 1857 Pattern Scots Guards officers’ sword and scabbard, Henry Wilkinson No 25544, 1883, piquet weight with etched blade with Coke crest, blade, 83cm Provenance: Sold in these 'rooms, February 11, 2005, £446 According to Wilkinson's archive, this sword was proved in July 1883 and sold to "C Coke". This is highly likely to refer to Thomas William Coke, GCVO CMG (b 1848) of Holkham Hall, Norfolk who succeeded his father in 1909 as the 3rd Earl of Leicester. In 1881 he was listed as a Captain in the Scots Guards and was subsequently promoted Colonel Light pitting and wear consistent with age
