A WWII period German K98 bayonet, with plain wooden grips, the blade with maker’s code “S/240”, in its scabbard with leather frog, worn overall; a Spanish M1893 sword bayonet with chequered wood grips, very worn; a British No 7 Mk I bayonet, dated 1946, GC, in a later webbing sheath; 2 other modern bayonets, and 3 associated sheaths; and a modern hunting knife in leather sheath.
An old, possibly 19th century, theatrical sword, the 18½” gladius type blade from a French sidearm, the brass hilt with sheet brass crosspiece, spiral grip and disc pommel, in its brass mounted scabbard with 4 hanging rings and velvet covered panels. GC (verdigris to metalwork, some age wear overall) , and a silver plated military style bugle, stamped “Premier 1940” and “12 Kings/6”, green cords, basically GC (minor damage and repairs). A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry trooper’s sword, straight shallow fullered 33½” flat guard with diamond reinforce, pierced along the outer edge, flat knucklebow, slightly forward sloping plain pommel and backstrap, copper wirebound polished darkwood grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings (minor dents). Good to very Good Condition, an unusually crisp example, the blade retaining some original finish. Plate 57
An officer’s mameluke hilted sword, curved, shallow fullered blade, 30”, marked Solingen on backstrap, steel crossguard with langets and ribbed knop finials, lined backstrap, ivory grips with brass rosette studs, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings, engraved at the top (faint) “Worn by Lt. Col Sir Henry Hollis Bradford KCB, during the Peninsula War and at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was mortally wounded”. Good Condition (scabbard painted black) Plate 63. Note: Lt Colonel Sir Henry Hollis Bradford, 1st Foot Guards, died at La Vacherie in France on December 7th 1816 from wounds received at Waterloo, his name appears on the Regimental plaque at Hougoumont.
An early 19th Century French brass hilted sidearm, broad flat single edged blade 16” x 2”, the one piece cast brass hilt with lion’s head pommel, scaled grip and straight quillons with fluted mushroom shaped finials, in its original brass mounted leather scabbard. Good Condition for age (some wear overall, the blade slightly ground) Plate 63
An impressive and important presentation mameluke sword from Lord Paget, curved flat blade 31”, double edged at point, frosted within polished edges for entire length on both sides, and on one side a presentation panel “From Major General Lord Paget to his Aide de Camp, Captn Diggens, 11th Lt Dragoons, Feby 1802.”, panelled copper gilt crossguard with langets and bud terminals, with toothed chevron border and a six pointed star in circle on one side in the centre, lined backstrap to ivory grips inset with gilt rosettes, in its leather covered scabbard with long panelled locket and chape, bulbous middle bud and matching mount for suspension rings. Good to Very Good Condition, retaining a little original gilt. Plate 63
A rare 1788 pattern heavy cavalry officer’s sword, curved, fullered blade 35”, marked I.R Solingen on backstrap and etched with mounted Hussar, Turkish bonnet, trophies and flourishes, with no “77” at forte (repeated on scabbard), steel hilt with crossguard, sideloop and quillon, knucklebow to flat cap shaped pommel, and 2 folding sidebars which are clipped inside the knucklebow and open out to form a semi basket hilt, ribbed fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with inset leather panels, 2 rings, the locket engraved with no “77” at the top and “Knubley & Co, Charing Cross, London” (the style of the firm 1786-97). Good Condition, with a dark patina to hilt and scabbard. Plate 63
A good 1814 pattern Household Cavalry officer’s sword, straight double fullered blade 34½”, heavy gilt brass half basket hilt with double shell guard, knucklebow, sideloops and on the outer side an ornamental panel incorporating a crowned wreath bearing the Royal Crest, flattened ball pommel, wirebound darkwood grip, in its brass scabbard with 2 rings and panelled on the outer side. Good to Very Good Condition, the blade crisp, the hilt retaining approximately 40% original gilt. (very minor scabbard dents). Plate 66

A presentation light company officer’s sword of The 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment from Lieut Col Herford, curved blade 27½”, etched with crowned GR cypher and trophies within floral and foliate panels, heavy gilt stirrup hilt with cut away corners, embossed foliate langets, panelled crossguard and knucklebow, pronounced forward sloping pommel and backstrap ornamented with stylized foliage, smooth facetted ivory grip, in its ornamental brass scabbard, pierced with sunburst circles and key pattern panels, backed with red leather, presentation inscription on locket. Good Condition the hilt retaining approximately 40% gilt,with traces to scabbard (hilt loose, blade some wear). Plate 66. Note: The presentation inscription reads “From Lieut Col Herford to Lieut William Bace of the 1 Batt 61 Foot. by gratitude for his Valour and Support in the Action at Toulouse, June 8th 1814”
An infantry officer’s dress sword c 1800, tapering hollow triangular section blade 33½”, etched with an arm emerging from a cloud, the hand holding a sword and ribbons, the other devices and stylized scrolls, gilt hilt with shallow upturned shell guard, crossguard and token pas d’ane rings, knucklebow and urn pommel, the top of the guard and pommel engraved with stylized floral chains, simulated banded and wirebound grip, in its white patent leather (some wear) scabbard with engraved locket, with one ring, and chape. Very Good Condition, retaining approximately 85% original gilt. Plate 66
A good French cuirassier officer’s sword, straight double fullered blade, 37½”, marked “....(partly erased) genthal 9bre 1814” on backstrap, gilt brass hilt, the guard with reinforced edges, knucklebow and 3 sidebars, cap shaped pommel, embossed at the ends and around the pommel cap with stylised vines, with maker’s stamp “Mangeaux a Paris” under the back of the guard, wirebound horn grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. Good Condition, the hilt retaining approx 20% original gilt, dark patina to scabbard. Plate 67
A French cuirassier trooper’s sword dated 1814, straight double fullered blade 37½”, marked “Manufre Rle de Klingenthal Xbre 1814” on backstrap with stamps at forte, brass hilt, the flat guard without reinforced edges, into knucklebow with stamps and “Versailles”, 3 sidebars, plain cap pommel, ribbed leather grip, in its steel scabbard (cleaned bright) with 2 rings. A Third Reich period Artillery officer’s sword, plated blade 31½” (plating dull), the brass stirrup hilt with lion’s head pommel, trophy of arms and iron cross on knucklebow, crossed cannon on one langet and vacant shield on the other, the black plastic covered grip retaining some wire binding, in its steel scabbard with traces of black painted finish. Generally GC (the scabbard, which appears not to be the correct one as the blade does not follow the contours and will not fully enter, has been partly cleaned bright)
