A Victorian Hampshire Regiment 1889 pattern infantry sergeant’s sword, straight fullered blade 32 3/4in., brass ‘gothic’ hilt incorporating VR cypher and stamped ‘6.09/5 H.T.S./11’, knurled thumb-piece and pommel, wire bound fishskin covered grip, steel scabbard with two fixed suspension rings.
A Japanese naval dirk, plated blade 8 1/4in., copper habaki, hilt of regulation form with brass guard and wirebound fishkin grip, cherry blossom hilt ornaments, brass mounted same covered scabbard, locket and elongated chape with cherry blossoms in relief to a seeded ground, twin suspension rings and sprung retaining catch. This dirk was taken by a British officer after the surrender of Japanese forces in Singapore, and is offered with a handwritten note of the provenance, and a British naval officer’s sword belt recovered at the same time.
