λ A collection of Yoruba animals and figures Nigeria wood, including a leopard box and cover, 30.5cm high, a leaping rabbit, a zoomorphic figure, three Eshu staffs, a standing pregnant female, an equestrian figure, another kneeling, three stylised dolls, a Shango thunder axe crest, together with two Ibibio dolls, a figure, a choora dagger and scabbard, an Ethiopian prayer scroll and a baton. A Paiwan ceremonial sword and scabbard Taiwan with a steel blade with initials I.C, with a wooden handle carved a figure either side, the scabbard carved three figure and five and a half heads, with open scroll wirework, 54.5cm long. (2) Provenance Joseph G. Gerena Fine Art, New York, 30 June 1998.

1st century BC. A hollow-formed bronze scabbard chape, scaphoid in plan with crescentic lower panel, carination and neck with flared rim and attachment pins. Cf. sword and scabbard summary typology in James, S. & Rigby, V. Britain and the Celtic Iron Age, London, 1997, fig.7.30 grams, 57mm (2 1/4"). Found East Anglia, UK; before 2000. Very fine condition. Scarce.
Dated 1220 AH (1806 AD"). A sword with swept single-edged blade and scabbard; the blade with inlaid brass designs and calligraphic text to one face with date, gilt plaque to the shoulder, wooden grip with ear-shaped pommel and white metal strip; the scabbard leather-covered with brass frog; Bulgarian workmanship. 853 grams total, 71cm (28"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Fair condition.
19th century AD. A slender two-edged sword with brass shell to the hilt and stirrup finger guard, running horse motif; leather sheath with brass fittings, attachment stud to the frog; engraved crown to each face of the asymmetrical pommel; no visible proof or maker's marks. 946 grams, 89cm (35"). Property of a Hertfordshire collector; acquired 1980s; by repute from the Tower Armouries. The 'running horse' emblem was used by various German military units. Fine condition, scabbard repaired.
3rd-1st century BC. A bronze tongue-shaped scabbard chape with two retaining straps to the reverse, openwork profile beast with billets above, opposed claws and central void beneath the chin; billetted band to the mouth. 50 grams, 95mm (3 3/4"). Property of a European gentleman; acquired on the German art market before 2000.[No Reserve] Fine condition.
