A German M1884/98 Second Pattern Knife Bayonet, the 25.5cm blued fullered steel blade with crowned W and dated (19)17 and inspector's marks to the back edge, the ricasso with mounted knight maker's mark for Bayer, the opposing side stamped GOTTLIEB/HAMMEFAHR/SOLINGEN, FOCH, the antler grip scales attached by two bolts, the pommel with further inspector's marks, with steel scabbard and leather frog. Some wear to the bluing on the blade. Dent to the scabbard. Wear to the leather frog which is missing the securing strap.

An Early 20th Century Russian Knife, the 22cm double edge plated steel blade with a central narrow fuller, each side etched with a foliate cartouche enclosing buildings and inscribed Zlatoust, the steel hilt with globular quillons chequered ebony square section grip and triple lobed pommel engraved with foliate strapwork, the red velvet covered steel scabbard with similar engraved decoration and single suspension ring, 38cm Footnote:- Zlatoust is one of the centres of artistic engraving on metal in Russia which was traditionally found on knives, swords and tableware. . Small areas of rust pitting to the edges of the blade. The steel mounts have orange rust pitting which would clean off. The velvet on the scabbard has wear to the edges.

A 19th Century German Export Cavalry Officer's Sword, with 89cm plain single edge curved and fullered steel blade, brass three bar hilt stamped 28 on the knuckle bow, the grip bearing traces of original wire binding and leather, with steel two ring scabbard.. Minor patching to the blade. Grip lacks most of its leather covering and wire binding. Rust pitting to the scabbard which has a dent to one side near the mouthpiece.

A Victorian 1890 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's Sword, the 87cm single edge fullered steel blade with War Department inspector's marks, the steel bowl hilt stamped 5.1895, Y/DY/134, and with other struck through numbers, with chequered black leather grip scales, the steel scabbard stamped at the throat 5.1895, Y/DY/134, 104cm; a 19th Century Indian Tulwar, with 74cm narrow curved steel blade, steel hilt with baluster grip, flat scroll knuckle bow and disc pommel, lacks scabbard, 88cm (2). 1 - Minor grey pitting to metalwork, wear to the chequering on the grip, no dents to the scabbard, Nice firm hilt. 2 - Grey rust pitting all over. One langet is broken. Tip of blade is rounded.

A Second World War First Pattern Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife, the 17cm hand forged steel blade etched THE F-S FIGHTING KNIFE in a canted square at the ricasso, the opposing side with maker's mark for Wilkinson Sword Ltd., London, the nickel hilt with recurving crossguard and diamond chequered grip, the pommel with peened tang tip, with nickel plated brass mounted leather scabbard incised with the initials EW for Ellis Woolcock (the original owner), 33cm; also, his group of medals, comprising 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with 1ST ARMY clasp, France and Germany Star, Defence and War Medal, with King's Badge, RASC cap badge, part of his Soldier's Service and Pay Book, Discharge Certificate and two Identity Cards. Footnote:- Corporal Ellis Woolcock (T/73754) served with the Royal Army Service Corps attached to the Royal Army Medical Corps and was the vendor's late grandfather. Some black patching to blade and slight discolouration to the hilt. The scabbard has had its side straps removed. There is a small dent to the chape.

(4). Chassepot bayonets with black patching and pitting to the blades, lack scabbards 1907 bayonet with bruising to the grip scales and minor pitting to the hilt, scuffing to the leather scabbard and pitting to the mounts Italian bayonet with grey patching and pitting to the blade and hilt. The leather scabbard is scuffed and coming unstitched along the back seam. The leather frog is dry and cracking with a broken securing strap.

The officer owning the George V example transferred to the Royal Flying Corps1 - Black patching and pitting to the blade, etching quite worn. Small areas of loss and crizzling to the nickel plated hilt. Orange rust pitting to the scabbard, no dents. 2 - Minor black patching to blade. Some rust pitting to hilt where the plate has worn off. Scabbard has a replaced repair to the chape. Rain slip with some surface scuffing.

An Early 18th Century English Hunting Sword, the 54.5cm double edge steel blade with two narrow fullers to each side and saw back, the silver hilt with hallmarks for London 1735, elaborate shell guard, the knuckle bow with shell fluting and engraved with original owner's name Lewis Fenton, the pommel chased with hunting horns and fluting, with stag antler grip, lacks scabbard, 67.5cm. Blade with small nicks to the edge, grey patching and pitting. Lacks scabbard. Hilt in good condition.

Lot 138

A Victorian Royal Artillery Officer's Sword, the 88cm single edge fullered steel blade double edged for the last 26cm, etched with royal cypher and scrolling foliage, by J Harvey, Birmingham, with Proved poincon, the steel three bar hilt with wire bound fishskin grip, with steel two ring scabbard, 107cm. Etching to blade is quite worn, dark grey patching in places. Left side of grip with some loss of fishskin. Rust pitting to the scabbard, no dents.

An 18th Century Continental Hunting Sword, the 57cm single edge fullered steel blade with semi scalloped back edge, engraved and gilt with flowers, a stag, a wild boar and a hound, with silver short down-swept crossguard, the ivory pistol grip with three inlaid silver escutcheons to each side and with silver strapwork borders and back strap, lacks scabbard, 71cm . Orange rust spots to the blade which was probably originally blued. The ivory grip has fine age cracks. The strapwork is lifting slightly and there is a 1.5cm section missing to one side.

A George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, the 81cm single edge fullered steel blade etched with the royal cypher and foliage, with Proved poincon, the steel guard pierced and engraved with the royal cypher, the wire bound grip bearing traces of original fishskin, lacks scabbard, 96.5cm; also, a Khyber knife with later wood grip, a knife with broad clip point steel blade stamped with Pegasus, with horn grip, an Arab knife with inlaid blade and bone grip, an Indian copy sword and scabbard, and another sword (6). 1 - Grey pitting to blade and hilt, loss of fishskin to grip, lacks scabbard. The remaining weapons have rust pitting to blades, some with later hilt fittings.

A US Army Paratrooper's Wrist Compass by Taylor, liquid filled, with bakelite case and leather wrist strap; a German Third Reich M1884/98 Knife Bayonet, the pommel bearing traces of a waffanamt marking, the ricasso and scabbard mouth each stamped S/177, 1937, with steel scabbard and leather frog dated 1937; a Second World War Group of Five Medals, comprising 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with clasp 8TH ARMY, Italy Star, Defence Medal and War Medal with MID oak leaf, swing mounted as worn (3). Compass in worn, but undamaged condition. Bayonet with orange rust pitting to the hilt and scabbard, the blade is clean, the leather frog is cracking and needs oiling- would clean up.

These boots were not designed for flying however many images show aircrew wearing them in flight); a Second World War Hunting/Fighting Knife, the 11cm broad steel blade with a narrow fuller, the ricasso stamped FAGAN, FOREIGN, the aluminium hilt with a grip of stacked leather washers, with leather scabbard; a Sudanese Knife, with 27.5cm double edge steel blade, with leather grip and scabbard; also, a photocopied letter from the original owner and a pair of African leather sandals. Provenance:- Belonged to the vendor's father 1589835 Aircraftman John Alexander, 82 Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, RAF, who served in Canada February to June 1945 and Accra, West Africa from October 1946 to June 1947

WW2 2nd SAS Special Air Service Photographic Archive of Samuel Wellington Rushworth. An outstanding personal archive of personnel unpublished snap shot photographs of the 2nd SAS on operations and rest, North West Europe 1944. Comprising: Selection of loose photographs including a large portrait of Rushworth proudly sporting 2nd SAS title SAS wings and beret badge ... Other loose photographs include images of the special jeeps, troops in the field, fellow SAS Troopers, etc. A number with details to the reverse (approx. 34 images). Photograph Album 1. This is titled No.1 Squadron 2nd Special Air Service. This covers France, Bergen and Norway. images of various size Large number of snaps of fellow members giving detail of their name and home. Crossing the Rhine, in the field, damaged buildings etc. (approx. 77 images present) Photograph Album 2 This a selection of postcard size photographs and shows troops in the field, some with German souvenirs etc. (approx. 37 images) US M8 Combat knife scabbard. This with a label indicating carried by Rushworth when his patrol was ambushed and he was wounded, with damage to the tip. Badges etc. include: personnel ID bracelet 1077108 P.C.T. RUSWORTH S 2ND SAS. SAS Old Comrades Lapel Badge numbered 208. The overall condition is good, the images remain clear. Biographical details provided by the vendor: Samuel Wellington Rushworth was the son of a professional soldier of the South Lancs Regiment and was born at Wellington Barracks Dublin in 1920. At the outbreak of WW2 he was living in Manchester and joined the Royal Artillery and quickly gained the rank of Sergeant. Hearing about the new Parachute Regiment he volunteered and after gaining his Parachute wings, volunteered for the new SAS Regiment and was posted to No1 Squadron 2nd SAS. He was involved in operations in North West Europe and found himself dropped into France 2 days before D-Day with the aim of disrupting German reinforcements heading towards the Normandy beeches. Shortly after the D-Day landings is patrol was ambushed and he was wounded in the backside and his combat knife damaged, the scabbard accompanying the lot. His wounds appear to have been more embarrassing than fatal as he soon returned to duty and was stranded behind enemy lines during operations in the Vosges when the SAS were hunted and those captured were executed by the German SS. Returning to Allied lines he was later one of the soldiers to enter Belsen concentration camp and his final operation of the War was when his unit was despatched to Norway to hunt down the last fanatical U-Boat crews and SS soldiers. Discharged from the army he returned to his pre war job as a fishmonger at Manchester Fish Market and he died in December 2001 at the age of 81 years

Housed in its dark blue leather covered scabbard with aluminium mounts, complete with hanging chains and spring clip bearing OLC diamond logo (Overhoff & Cie, Ludenscheid). Minor service wear. VGC

German Third Reich Luftwaffe 2nd pattern Officer dagger with straps by Roberet Klass, Solingen. Good example, circa 1937-45, with spiral cream ivorine grip and twist wire binding, the plain blade bearing maker issing cranes logo. The aluminium crossguard and langet bearing a flying eagle and swastika; the pommel ornamented with swastika and oakleaves. Housed in its stippled silvered metal scabbard fitted with two suspension rings and worn foliate lockets. Complete with aluminium laced, velvet-backed slings with oakleaf ornamented rectangular buckles (one absent) and oak leaf ornamented spring-clips; metal suspension spring-clip. Blade very tip AF, service wear. Introduced in July 1937.

The hilt with single bar guard with embossed oakleaf decoration and to the cross guard a German Army eagle with stretched wings. The black grip with silver twist wire binding is surmounted by a Lion head pommel, this with oak leaf embossed back strap. Complete with original steel painted scabbard. Overall GC

Imperial German Army Officer Sword. A good example, single edged plain fullered blade with cutler details to the forte of SMF of Solingen. The hilt with single bar guard with embossed oak leaf decoration and to the langets further embossed decoration. The shargeen grip with twist wire binding is surmounted by a lion head pommel with ruby glass eyes and embossed back strap. Scabbard absent, the blade is re-pointed and a length of 75.5 cm.

WW1 German 1915 Parade Bayonet This example with a straight 14 inch blade the back edge dated 1915. The hilt with stag horn grips and oak leaf engraved decoration to metalwork. Scabbard absent. Possibly converted from a Butcher bayonet during the early NAZI period to be used as a Police parade bayonet.

Housed in gilt metal scabbard with engraved lighting bolts, oak leaf supports for the two loose suspension rings with two gilded aluminium lion head mounted black straps (both missing sting clips). German Third Reich SA Stormtrooper dagger by scarce maker C.G.Haenel, Suhl. A good clean example with nickel mounts, the blade etched Alles fur Deutschland and bearing maker logo. Nickel cross guard stamped Mi (SA Group Mitte). Light brown grained wooden grip inlaid with silvered eagle and swastika and enamelled circular SA device. Housed in original brown anodised scabbard with nickel mounts and a single suspension ring with leather strap, spring clip, belt loop and loop for top of grip. Minor service wear otherwise VGC.

Indian Army Attributed General Officer 1831 pattern Mameluke hilted Sword by Wilkinson A very good and scarce example, made by Wilkinson Sword circa 1932 and attributed to Major General Sir Clement Arthur Milward CB CIE CBE DSO. The blade is etched with Crowned GVR Cypher, General Officer device and floral decoration. Also with the initials C.A.M. details of Wilkinson sword to the forte and the blade is numbered 63172. Gilt cross guard with floral decoration and General Officer device to the centre. Two piece grip with two floral head gilt studs. Housed in original polished steel scabbard with two loose rings. Near VGC Parade condition. The blade number indicates a date of 1932. Major General Sir Clement Arthur Milward CB CIE CBE DSO was appointed to this rank on the 22nd June 1931.

Waterloo Period British Officer 1803 Blue & Gilt Sword. A fine regulation example with cutler details of T.Archer & Son. The 25 inch single edged curved blade with 3/4 length blue & gilt decoration (Approx 80% present). Decoration depicts a crowned GR cypher, Royal Arms, cutler details etc. The hilt with fire gilt guard with GR cypher, enclosing a shagreen grip with twist wire binding, this surmounted by a lion head pommel. Housed in leather scabbard with gilt mounts. This complete with two loose rings and frog button. The overall condition is good, gilt bright to hilt, but dulled to the scabbard.

The hilt with three bar guard which encloses a shagreen grip with rounded chequered decorated pommel. Housed in polished steel scabbard with two loose rings. Blade length 35 inches GC.

The blade with etched decoration of a Crowned VR cypher and a panel with IV P.I. The hilt with bar guard incorporating a Crowned bugle device and shagreen grip. The blade is with etched decoration, of a Crowned VR reverse cypher. The brass open guard is also with cypher, and shagreen grip this with twist wire binding. The guard is stamped 3.1891. Housed in polished steel scabbard. GC clean condition, some minor age wear ... Accompanied by a polished brown leather field service scabbard. Leather split, does not fit the RAMC sword. (2 items)

Coldstream Guards Attributed Officer sword by Wilkinson of London A good example by Henry Wilkinson, the blade, number 65445 (1936), bears decoration of a GVR Crowned Cypher, Battle Honours of the Regiment including those of the Great War. The open guard incorporates the Order of the Garter Regimental device. The shagreen grip, with twist wire binding. Housed in a polished brown leather field service scabbard. Near VGC. The sword is attributed by the vendor to F.C Weller who ordered the sword on the 5th May 1936

The gilt single bar guard hilt with embossed anchor to the langet and retaining grip, with twist wire binding. This surmounted by a lion head pommel. Blade now with a dark patina and some rusting, the engraving would have been with blue and gilt decoration. Scabbard absent.

The sword with some age wear, dark spots and pitting to the blade, chape to scabbard loose.

Housed in polished brown leather field service scabbard. Etching clear some stain spots to the blade.

Scots Guards Victorian Piper Broadsword. A very rare example of regimental pattern. The double edged straight blade with double fuller. Bearing etched decoration of a Crowned reversed entwined VR cypher, the regimental device of the Order of the Thistle. The hilt with special pattern Regimental basket, the central bar with a Scots Guard device. The basket retains scarlet cloth and buff leather lining and top retaining nut (Grip absent). Housed in correct black leather and steel mounted scabbard. Etching to blade remains clear, but now with grey patina. Mounts to scabbard with some rusting. PLEASE NOTE the grip is absent and the tread to the pommel nut is worn and requires attention.
