He served in H.M. Indian Army and distinguished himself in Persia under General Sir Henry Bethune in 1834. He commanded a regiment at the Battle of Khisa Chum and received a firman of thanks from the Shah and the Order of the Lion and Sun. He captured the fort of Shack Othman in 1858, commanded at Arden (Lt Gen KLS 20th August 1878). He was a JP for Co Mayo Southern Ireland. Home Party Co Mayo.

XII MARCH MDCCCIX, (12th March 1809), gilded double ogee langet, stirup hilt, leather grip each side with three rossettes, gilt brass and stepped pommel, contained in its steel scabbard with gilt brass mounts and bearing the crest of the Corps. provinence from a direct discendant: by family repute, Henry Blosse Lynch, born 1778, died 1st June 1813, he was a Major in the 73rd Regiment and served under the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular War, M.I.D., for his gallantry at the sige of Ciudad Roderigo, (1812). He was the father of two sons, he lived at Party House, Co Mayo, Ireland.
an 1821 pattern Artillery Officer’s Sabre by H Wilkinson, the 34.5 inch steel blade numbered 11934 (1862) typically etched with Royal Artillery design, VR cypher and presentation inscription stating C.S. from A.J.S., triple bar guard, fishskin grip and stepped pommel, contained in its steel scabbard, sold with this lot is a copy of the recipient’s death certificate, and regimental history. charles Stewart, was Merchant and Lieutenant of Artillery and Captain of Militia, he died 7th October 1874 when fracturing his skull from accidentally falling down stairs at the Midland Hotel, Pancras Station.
