Australian Patt 1907 Bayonet with hooked quillon and a Gallipoli provenance. Cross guard marked `2MD 25820` Ricasso Marked `EFD` 8"-11" and inspection marks. Reverse of Pommel marked with a D with arrow within (AIF Ownership mark). Good Walnut Grips. Blade 17" (some staining) in its steel mounted leather Scabbard, throat of locker marked `2MD 23870` (could be 25820 a bit indistinct) Leather of Scabbard marked `D` and `11` (?) Sold with copies of two letters. One to Mr Blaber at Wallis and Wallis stating "The Bayonet has a provenance, in so much as it was picked up by my Grandfather, Master of a N.Z Steamship Line Troopship after discharging ANZAC troops on the beach (he) picked up the Bayonet". A second letter to the purchaser from the vendor states it was picked up at Sulva Bay by his Grandfather Captain of either the Rangitika or the Hororata in 1915, plus other details. Overall condition in good with no pitting. Some wear to Scabbard leather at locker & chape but no losses Initials `N.A` lightly scratched to Grip.
