Third Reich Kriegsmarine Officers Dress Dagger by Puma, fine example with white celluloid grip retaining the original wire. Top eagle pommel with swastika to the centre. Guard retains the original press button. Attached to the handle is Kriegsmarine issue gold portepee. Standard pattern scabbard with two hanging rings. Blade remains in mint condition with etched sailing ship decoration. Base of the blade has PUMA Solingen makers mark. Puma made very few Kriegsmarine daggers so as a result these are highly sort after. Very good example.
Four British WW2 Period Fighting / Hunting Knives, consisting of an example by Wade & Butcher in similar design to the RAF Servicing Commando knife, with clipped blade measuring 12 ½ cm in length. Housed in the original leather scabbard. Another example with double edged blade and horn handle, small bowie type knife by Wade & Butcher with ridged edge and a larger type by Christopher Johnson & Co with leather scabbard. Luftwaffe 2nd Pattern Officers Dress Dagger, deep orange handle which retains the original grip wire. Top pommel has the final remains of gilt wash to the swastika. Luftwaffe eagle cross guard remains in very good condition. Complete with the original bullion dress portepee. Scabbard remains in very good condition with both hanging rings intact. Blade with Carl Eickhorn makers mark to the base, obscured by the cross guard. Some light surface staining to the blade but generally a good example.

Third Reich Government Officials Dress Dagger, fine example with mother of pearl grips, eagle head top with screw fitting. Stylised eagle cross guard with the eagle head facing the same way as the top. Housed in the original scabbard with two hanging rings. Unusually no makers trade mark to the base of the blade. Leather washer underneath the cross guard. Some surface staining to the blade. Attached to the dagger is the original special pattern Government officials portepee with smaller sized acorn end. Dagger remains in very good overall condition with nice patina to the exterior parts. Rare dagger to find.
WW1 British Officers Robbins Dudley Push Dagger, with alloy hilt stamped to the end “ROBBINS DUDLEY” and steel hand guard. Fixed double edged blade measuring 12cm in length. Housed in its original brown leather scabbard. Securing leather strap possible later replacement. Good example of this WW1 fighting knife.
Third Reich RAD (Labour Service) Enlisted Ranks Hewer Dress Dagger, two piece stag horn grip with plated eagle beak and bottom section with thick cross guard. Original black painted scabbard with both top and lower fittings. Lower fitting has the RAD emblem to both sides. Fixed single loop for the attachment of the hanging strap. Blade remains in very good condition with much of the original finish. Motto to the blade “Arbeit adelt”. Reverse of the blade has Carl Eickhorn makers mark and RAD acceptance mark. Generally a very good example.
British 1895 Pattern Royal Marines Officers Sword, standard Victoria 1895 pattern sword complete with metal dress scabbard. Grip retains the original wire binding. Crowned VR to the hilt. Blade etched with foliage and Royal Marines insignia with motto. Spine of the blade stamped M2335. Blade is heavily polished with a portion of the detail being erased. Some plating lifting and staining to the scabbard. Blade length 82cm.
Royal Engineers Regimentally Marked British 1903 Pattern Bayonet, interesting example with the top pommel stamped “90 RE 190” and the other side various regimental stamps with striked through line. Bayonet is complete with its original leather scabbard with steel mounts. Blade with acceptance stamps and crowned 1903, other side marked with broad arrow and Chapman Sheffield makers mark. Blade length 30 ½ cm. Good untouched example.
Rare Japanese Police Sword for Chinese Manchuria, brass hilt with the top pommel in the form of a stylised Chinese dragon and the D shaped knuckle guard coming from its mouth. Shark skin grip retaining the original grip wire. Lower section of the guard also decorated with a Chinese style dragon. Housed in its original plated scabbard. Press button release on the Fuchi. Single edged blade with single fuller to the edge. Blade measures 70 ½ cm. Some plating lifting to the scabbard and light surface staining to the blade but otherwise very good condition.

WW2 British 1st Pattern Fairbairn Sykes (F.S) Fighting Knife, with nickel silver plated grip, S type guard. The blade stamped to the forte with “THE F-S FIGHTING KNIFE” and the other side with Wilkinson Sword logo. Double edged blade which has been sharpened and shortened, this has been done period as with so many of these fighting knives. Housed in a scabbard for a 2nd or 3rd pattern commando knife. Good used example.
1827 Pattern George VI Royal Navy Officers Dress Sword by Wilkinson, excellent example retaining nearly all of the original fire gilt wash finish to the lion head top and dish guard. Sharkskin grip retaining the original wire. Gold bullion wire dress knot with blue fleck. Original black leather scabbard with gilt metal fittings. Catch fitting to the reverse engraved “D.BAILEY”. Mint condition single edged blade with etched crown fouled anchor and George VI monogram. Base of the blade has Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd makers mark and the spine of the blade is numbered 68803. Sword is housed in the original oilskin carry bag.
1822 Pattern British Infantry Officers Dress Sword, being a William IV / Victorian example. Gilt brass swept gothic hilt with central cartouche having crowned VR and IV underneath. Fish skin grip retaining the original wire. Fold down guard to the reverse. Housed in the original black leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts. Slightly curved single edged pipe backed blade which measures 81 ½ cm in length. Some surface staining to the blade which has worn away the etched decoration. Much of the original gilt wash finish remains to the exterior fittings.
Canadian V-42 Fighting Knife made by H G Long & Co Sheffield England, polished wooden grip with brass rings, green painted spiked top pommel, blackened brass cross guard. Double edged stiletto style blade which measures 18 ¼ cm in length. Housed in its long brown leather scabbard with blackened brass end chape and leather tab with brass ring to the bottom. Long belt loop attachment. Blade remains in very good condition with much of the original blueing.
WW2 Japanese Arisaka Bayonet, complete with its original metal scabbard and leather belt frog. Blade with single fuller and Arsenal mark to the base. Leather frog remains in good condition. Accompanied by another Arisaka bayonet with the original scabbard and belt frog, the frog is in poor condition. Single fuller and with Arsenal mark to the base of the blade. (2 items)
1912 Pattern British Cavalry Sword by Wilkinson Attributed to Captain Edgar Ralph Coles 3rd (Prince of Wales Own) Dragoon Guards, Killed in Action 12th May 1915, standard pattern example with large engraved dish bowl guard, fish skin grip retaining the original wire. Sword is housed in its original brown leather covered field service scabbard with special pattern hanging strap for the Sam Browne belt. Blade is etched with foliage, Royal monogram and initials “E.R.C” to the blank panel. Blade has Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London makers mark to the base with the spine being numbered 43661. Blade measures 88cm in length. Some surface staining to the blade but generally a very nice example. Edgar Ralph Coles was born on 13th May 1889 at Burntwood, Caterham. He was the second son of Ernest and Adela Powell. Educated at Marlborough College and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He had a keen interest in flying and held certificate number 858 of the Royal Aviation Club. 1910 he entered the 3rd Dragoon Guards as a University candidate, being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Promoted to Lieutenant in March 1911 and Captain in November 1914. His regiment was serving in Cairo in 1914, but with the outbreak of the war, the regiment was ordered to France. He was mentioned in Sir John French’s despatches of 14th January 1915, for exceedingly good work in carrying messages and maintaining communication under heavy fire at Zillebke in November 1914. He was killed by a rifle bullet in the abdomen in the trenches near Hooge on the eve of his 26th Birthday, during the battle of Frezenburg Ridge, part of the second battle of Ypres. After his death his commanding officer, Major Burt, said that “His splendid example and comradeship would be greatly missed by all ranks in the regiment”. Lieutenant Holt who was serving as acting Adjutant said that “his gallantry was an inspiration to his men and that he was one of the coolest officers that was ever under fire”. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial.
Large American Marbles Gladstone Bowie Type Hunting / Fighting Knife, alloy top pommel with leather covered grip, large bowie style blade which measures 25 ½ cm in length. Blade stamped “MARBLE’S GLADSTONE MICH U.S.A”. Housed in its original leather scabbard with strengthened leather tip section. Top securing clip marked “GLADSTONE MARBLE MICH”.
Post 1902 Naval Warrant Officers Sword, regulation blade 31.5” etched ‘Samuel Brothers Ltd, Outfitters 65 & 67 Ludgate Hill London EC’ together with crowned fouled anchor and royal arms, and retaining virtually all its original polish. Regulation brass hilt with traces of gilding, chiselled crowned fouled anchor, folding sideguard, black fishskin grip with bullion dress knot, in its brass mounted leather scabbard. Good condition.
French Gras Bayonet, with wooden two piece handle and brass top pommel, swept quillon with stampings 96777 which match the numbers on the steel scabbard. Blade with makers stamp and date 1878 to the spine. Blade measures 52cm in length. Accompanied by a French WW1 lebel bayonet with down turned quillon. Cruciform blade which measures 52cm in length. Complete with the original black painted metal scabbard. Both generally in good condition. (2 items)
Third Reich Postschutz (Postal Protection) Dress Dagger, good example with black ebony handle having original metal emblem attached (not straight). Original top pommel and stylised eagle cross guard with black enamel swastika to the centre of both sides. Housed in the original scabbard with metal chains and correct pattern clip fitting marked on the reverse DRGM. Under the cross guard is stamped 242 and DRP. Blade remains in near mint condition with much of the original cross graining. Base of the blade has Paul Weyersberg & Co Solingen makers trade mark. Very good example of this scarce dress dagger.
HIGHLANDER (1986) - Ramirez's (Sean Connery) Katana Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez’s (Sean Connery) hero katana from the Russell Mulcahy fantasy-adventure Highlander. The Spanish-Egyptian immortal used his sword to train Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) to face The Kurgan (Clancy Brown), eventually falling to the barbarian and losing his head in the Scottish Highlands. The mysterious sword was passed to MacLeod, and was a key plot device throughout the series, becoming his signature weapon through the ages. Custom-made for the production, this hero sword boasts a polished stainless steel blade, a machined aluminium guard, a cast resin grip and a red leather-covered wooden scabbard. The blade is blunt and smooth to ensure safety during use on set. The grip features relief detailing of Japanese dragons, lions and Japanese samurai and has a faux-ivory finish. The guard is finished in faux-gold, as are the scabbard’s cast metal side and end caps. The piece displays some scrapes, pitting and corrosion across the guard, grip and scabbard from production use, with the blade clean and displaying minimal wear. KING ARTHUR (2004) - Hero Excalibur Sword and Scabbard The fabled sword Excalibur from Antoine Fuqua’s action-adventure King Arthur. Roman cavalry officer Artorius Castus (Clive Owen) wieldedhis legendary sword throughout the film in his battles against Cerdic (Stellan Skarsgård) and the rampaging Saxons before taking the name Arthur and becoming leader of the Britons. Made of polished aluminium and resin, the sword features an ornate grip covered in Celtic designs, with notches and blood grooves engraved into the metal blade. The grip is finished in faux-bronze paint with a pearlescent blue device at the pommel. The piece is retained in a leather scabbard, with metal hardware and elaborate leather strapping. The scabbard is carried by a leather and metal sword sling. Well-used during the production, the sword displays moderate wear to the paint finish on the grip, with scratches, notches and damage to the aluminium blade indicating the practical use of the sword in the film’s fight sequences. THE LAST SAMURAI (2003) - Nathan Algren's (Tom Cruise) Cavalry Sword Nathan Algren's (Tom Cruise) cavalry sword from Edward Zwick's war epic The Last Samurai. Algren uses his sabre in battle against the Samurai until his capture by Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe). The sword has a dulled steel blade with a slight curvature. The handle is wrapped with black leather and gold-coloured wire, and includes a winding brass guard. The sword includes a steel scabbard with two rings allowing for the piece to be attached to a belt. The sword shows minor wear due to production use, but remains in very good condition. THE LAST SAMURAI (2003) - Katsumoto's (Ken Watanabe) Katana Katsumoto's (Ken Watanabe) hero katana from Edward Zwick’s war epic The Last Samurai. Katsumoto used his katana throughout the film as he fought the Japanese Imperial Army, first against, then alongside American Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise). Katsumoto ultimately took his own life with the sword, before being presented to Emperor Meiji (Shichinosuke Nakamura). The sword is made of aluminium, with a resin grip designed to look like wood, bound in cloth and an ornate plastic guard. The blade is blunted to prevent injury to performers. A blood groove runs along the length of the left-hand side of the blade, while the right-hand side’s groove is broken by an array of engraved symbols. The grip is finished in black and white with faux-gold accents. The piece is retained in a resin scabbard finished in black, bound in black and white rope. The sword exhibits some wear from production use, including chips in the paint finish and mud on the scabbard from use on the battlefield. LES MISéRABLES (2012) - Javert's (Russell Crowe) Rapier Sword Inspector Javert’s (Russell Crowe) fencing foil from Tom Hooper’s Academy Award®-winning musical drama Les Misérables. Javert’s weapon of choice was a rapier, as he hunted down Jean Valjean(Hugh Jackman). This ornate sword features a wire lattice pattern on the grip, with an elegant repeating floral pattern running over its pommel and guard. The blade is triangular in profile and made from lightweight aluminium, the edges of which have been softened to ensure the actors’ safety. The word 'Cartel' is stamped at the blade’s base. The scabbard is black leather, with polished metal capping at each end. The sword is accompanied by a copy of the December 2012 issue of US Vogue magazine featuring an image of Javert with his sword as part of the Les Misérables article. APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) - Buffalo Sacrifice Machete A sacrificial machete from Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar®-winning Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now. The indigenous Montagnards used their machetes for the controversial scene involving the sacrifice of the water buffalo, which took place during the brutal killing of Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) by Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) in the ruined temple. The machete is made of steel, with a wood grip and wicker band detailing. Faux-silver paint has been applied to the leading edges of the blade, which remains sharpened. The weapon is retained in a handmade wooden scabbard, with wicker strap loops allowing it to be worn on the belt or over the shoulder. The weapon exhibits some corrosion along the blade, with wear to the wooden scabbard from production use. ORDERS, DECORATIONS AND MILITARY MEDALS, Miscellaneous, A WW1 Period 1821 Pattern Artillery Officers Sword and scabbard by Robmole & Sons, makers, Birmingham with GVR cypher to blade, very fine condition with very light marks to blade; Royal Artillery Cap Badge (Queen’s Crown) in .925 silver and enamels, sweet-heart brooch; Royal Artillery Cap Badge Tie Pin (King’s Crown), in base metal and enamel; “Ubique” grenade sweet-hearts brooch in 18carat gold and enamels; A pre-1945 Japanese Non Commissioned Officers Sword a Shin-gunto, unpainted copper hilt blade number (32526), machine made, lacking grip due to battle damage, complete with scabbard and tsuba, blade very fine and razor sharp, hilt damaged, scabbard has paint loss. (lot) These items belonged to Elfred James Michael Lawn, born 26 December 1922, died 30 January 1995. From his eulogy: “…Major EJM Lawn was with British Royal Artillery, followed his father into the Regiment in 1941, at the age of 18. He had a hard war in Burma, including the 1st Arakan campaign where he served with 130th Field Regiment. The Journal of the Royal Artillery March 1995 describes one action:”… There was an emotional scene along the sea shore when the sadly depleted ranks of the battalions of 6 Brigade came streaming back cheering the gunners of 130 Field Regiment blazing away to keep the Japs in the jungle off”.
