A GOLD MOUNTED GEORGIAN PRESENTATION SWORD, 81.5cm blade etched with foliage, the Royal arms, GR cypher, various classical figures and stands of arms, the gold hilt with double shell guard embossed with the regimental arms and the arms of the recipient, the knuckle guard in the form of two entwined serpents, bold lion's head pommel with ruby eyes, the mane forming the backpiece, all in one piece with the gold grip, contained in its leather scabbard with gold mounts embossed with stands of arms, the reverse of the locket engraved with the lengthy inscription, gold hallmarks for Ray and Montague. Lower part of the scabbard and chape lacking. The inscription reads "This sword was Presented on 14 April A.D.1806 To Col. Sir John Eamer Kt & C & C & C by the Officers, Non Commissioned Officers and Privates of the Royal East London Militia in Testimony of their Attachment to him as their Commanding Officer and their Esteem for him as a Gentleman & a Soldier and proudly to record the Sentiments of Triumph they share with him in his highly honourable Acquittal pronounced by a General Court Martial on ten charges preferred against him by Capt Will Ayres who with four other Officers were in Consequence Displaced from the Regt by the express command of the Sovereign". John Eamer was a wholesale grocer who dealt in sugar imported from the West Indies. His success led to him becoming Sheriff of London in 1794. He was knighted and became Lord Mayor of London in 1801. He was appointed Colonel of the Royal East London Militia on 28th April 1803. In 1805 he was charged with "Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman" by some junior officers who complained of bullying and abusive behaviour. Sir John was acquitted although he was cautioned to be more guarded in his future language towards the Officers of his Regiment. Sold with further research.

AN UNUSUAL MAMELUKE STYLE SABRE OF TIPU SULTAN INTEREST, 71cm blade, brass mounted hilt with trophy tiger's head pommel decorated with the bubri design favoured by Tipu Sultan and his guards, recurved crossguard, the ecusson cast with a slung bugle horn, horn grip, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, old repair to leather. The pommel presumably was taken from a captured sword. The characteristics of the pommel are not dissimilar to that of the on the sword of Captain Mackay in the National War Museum in Scotland and the gem set gilt one sold in these rooms from the state of Captain William Moffatt.

Major General Villiers Hatton CB (1852-1914), commanding officer of 1st Bn Grenadier Guards, mentioned in despatches after taking part in the Nile Expedition in the Mahdist War, also Commander of the British troops in South China. A GOOD 1897 REGIMENTAL PATTERN NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS OFFICER'S SWORD, 82cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 39452 for 1902, etched with scrolling foliage, regimental motifs and battle honours, owner's initials MMC, EVIIR cypher and the Royal arms, regulation pierced plated hilt incorporating the Royal cypher and applied with the regimental badge, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated scabbard. Sold with a small amount of research detailing Lieutenant Malcolm Methven Carlisle who joined the 2nd Battalion in January 1904 and died in May 1906.

Bell was a trained Swordfish pilot who was killed in action during a bombing raid on Maritza aerodrome on Rhodes.

AN 1821 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE OXFORDSHIRE YEOMANRY CAVALRY, 89cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 27915 for 1887, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VR cyphers and maker's panel, regulation three-bar steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its field service scabbard, complete with bag. Made for Captain Cecil William Boyle (1853-1900), born Westminster, London 16th March 1853, educated Clifton College and University College, Oxford. Played cricket and rugby for his college and later internationally. Joined the Oxfordshire Hussars, (the same regiment as Winston Churchill), before being appointed Lieutenant in the Imperial Yeomanry. Served in the Boer War, taking thirty of his own horses to Africa with him. Killed fighting against French volunteers at Boshof, 5th April 1900, the first member of the Imperial Yeomanry to be killed in action.
THE SWORD AND HEADDRESS OF MAJOR JOHN WILLIAM BROOKE TINDALL 3RD BATTALION THE 7TH RAJPUT REGIMENT, 82cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 60417 for 1926, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal arms, GRI cyphers and owner's initials J.W.B.T, regulation pierced steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its field service scabbard, complete with knot, bag, 2 x plated scabbards, spare field service scabbard, worn swagger stick and a further plated 7th Rajput Regiment example, together with two hat tins containing, the first containing an Officer's peaked cap with canvas cover, badge to the VII RAJPUT REGIMENT, inter-war pith helmet of "Bombay Bowler" type by Asquith & Lord, another "The Conforma" and a quilted or "Cawnpore Tent" example, the second tin containing leather gaiters, khaki linen trousers, white linen mess jacket and waistcoat, white pith helmet and a khaki pith helmet with cloth divisional badge. Assorted rank pips and crowns, regimental buttons, three pairs of shoulder titles or pagri badges - 7 RAJPUT and a pair of officer's white metal Katar dagger collar badges to the 7th Rajput, three white metal Tyndale family crest plaid brooches and a white metal elephant charm. Major J. W. B. Tindall of the 3/7th Rajput Regiment was killed on operations, by a sniper, in the Khaisora Valley in September 1936. (Parcel)
A CLEAN 18TH CENTURY PINCH OF SNUFF BASKET HILTED BACK SWORD, 91.5cm clean fullered blade retaining most of its original polish, characteristic hilt composed of flattened round bars forming five and a half full panels of crosses with foliate vertical terminals and with a vacant rein panel, flattened half bun-shaped pommel, wire bound fishskin grip with Turk's heads, contained in its steel scabbard engraved with the maker's name J. Read & Sons. See British Basket-Hilted Swords by Cyril Mazansky pg 171-174. The term "Pinch of Snuff" derives from a series of mid 18th Century portraits of officer's carrying swords with similar hilts, one such portrait entitled "A Pinch of Snuff" by Delacour depicts Malcolm Macpherson of Phoness who fought with the 78th Regiment as a Volunteer.

A 19TH CENTURY SCOTTISH DIRK, 31cm fullered blade with faceted back edge, characteristic hilt with white metal thistle mounts, carved basket weave wooden grip, the pommel set with a faceted citrine stone, contained in its white metal mounted leather scabbard, decorated to match, complete with companion knife and fork. Leather covering worn, lifting and with losses. The throat mount is engraved with the crest and motto of the Wilson Clan and the bi-knife bears the maker's name of Turner.
A CLEAN SECOND PATTERN COMMANDO KNIFE OR DAGGER, 17.25cm flattened diamond section blacked blade, regulation blackened brass hilt with chequered grip and stamped with an I over a broad arrow at the base, the crossguard stamped ENGLAND over AE, contained in its leather scabbard with blackened copper chape.
A VERY GOOD 1907 PATTERN HOOKED QUILLON BAYONET, 43.2cm clean fullered blade with various Ordnance and date stamps at the forte, regulation hilt retaining all of its original finish, two-piece wooden grips, the scabbard throat and the crossguard stamped V20504, the scabbard mounts retaining all of their original finish, the leather with various Ordnance and date stamps.
