A French officer’s silver mounted hanger from the warship “Glorieux”, captured at the Battle of the Saintes, 1782, broad shallow fullered SE blade 23” and diam 1-7/8” at forte, sheet silver mounted hilt, the short panelled crossguard with whorled terminals, zig zag engraved backstrap to shaped ivory grips bearing a stylized “pineapple” panel each side, the outer one engraved “French prize. Taken in the Glorieux. 12 April 1782”, in its leatherette scabbard with silver locket and chape panelled en suite with hilt; with full photostat details of the “Glorieux” which was captured by the British at the battle of Saintes, during the war with America, April 1782, renamed “HMS Glorious”, and was then lost in a hurricane off Newfoundland 16th/17th Sept the same year. A late 18th century naval officer’s 5 ball hilted spadroon, 17th cent DE blade 28½”, with shallow central fuller at forte, etched on both sides with 5 pellet device, “15”, Running Wolf, “35”, 5 pellets, pellet and crosslet device, gilt hilt with crossguard and quillon, 5 ball sideloop, enclosing a neatly executed pierced and engraved fouled anchor, facetted knucklebow with 5 ball centre section, facetted domed pommel with small incised ornamental bands, fluted panels to ivory grip in the centre of which a gilt border engraved band with an elongated central oval and crowned fouled anchor, in its tooled leather scabbard the chape pricker engraved “Callum & Spalding, King’s Cutlers, Charing Cross”. GC the hilt mounts retaining approx 50% original gilt (crossguard mis-shapen, chape and lower 6” of scabbard missing). Plate 4
A Geo naval dirk, slender DE blade 8½”, with central fuller, small copper inverted bowl shaped guard, embossed with stylized leaves, slender ivory grip, ball pommel with the copper top half in the form of a lion’s head, in its brass scabbard engraved overall with trophy, sea monsters, sun rays, etc in panels, 2 suspension rings. An 1853 pattern cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 33½” (the tip rounded) with inspector’s stamp and Indian army broad arrow with I on backstrap, steel hilt with broad knucklebow, sideloop and 2 sidebars, chequered composition grips, various stamps on back of guard incorporating V, Y, AA, 8/98 etc, in later pattern steel scabbard with opposing rings, hilt and scabbard with contemporary black painted finish overall. GC (minor wear to blade with dark rust patina, blade does not fully enter scabbard).
A French M1833 naval cutlass, broad, slightly curved SE blade 26½”, marked “Manufre Rale de Chaetellerault Juin 1838” on backstrap and etched with an anchor on both sides at forte, black regulation hilt (repainted) of solid half basket form, flattened octagonal section pommel cap and grip, in its leather scabbard with brass locket and belt stud, and chape (replaced). Basically GC (hilt and scabbard mounts pitted, blade stained, leather distorted), together with a spare scabbard (mounts worn, leather distorted); and another M1898/05 Mauser bayonet, with trimmed muzzle ring and flashguard, by Schleutermann, Remscheid, in its steel scabbard. Basically GC (lightly pitted overall). (2)

An interesting Vic RN sword with broadsword blade, presumably for Scottish officer, traditional Highland double fullered blade 31½”, by Gillott & Hassell, New Burlington St, London, etched with crowned R Arms on one side and crowned fouled anchor on the other, all in scrolled panels, gilt half basket hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor, and with turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound white sharkskin grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings. GC Plate 4
A pre 1803 pattern light company officer’s sword, curved blade 28”, brass stirrup hilt with langets, forward sloping pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its leather (AF) scabbard with border engraved copper mounts and 2 rings, the locket engraved “Lt. E. Hide, Rifles, Quatre Bras Waterloo, 37th” (engraving probably by the family at a later date) on the reverse side, “R. Johnston, late Bland & Foster, Sword Cutler Belt Maker to his Majesty, 68, St James’s St London” in roped oval border on one side, with owner’s name on the other. QGC (worn overall, knucklebow bent, blade abraded).
A P1856 sword bayonet, unmarked apart from WKC knight’s head logo, and small crown on crosspiece, in its steel mounted leather scabbard, GC (the scabbard leather worn, the scabbard mounts rusty); and another, no visible marks apart from maker’s name “Reeves” on back edge of blade. Basically GC (hilt mounts pitted, rust patches to blade, no scabbard). (2)
A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry officer’s sword, almost straight SE blade 35”, with hatchet point, etched with crowned GR cypher, Britannia and trophy on one side and pre 1801 R Arms, with supporters and motto, and trophy on the other, all with florets and flourishes, regulation steel “ladder” pattern basket hilt with plain forward sloping pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound (AF) leather grip, in its steel scabbard (few shallow dents) with 2 rings. GC for age with a good dark patina to hilt (blade some wear and light pitting marks). Plate 6
A Geo naval dirk, shallow diamond section blade 6½”, faintly etched overall with trophies and scrolls, turned swollen ivory grip (cracked) with copper gilt lower band and scalloped edge, octagonal guard embossed on the top with a slender star interspersed with foliage, cap shaped pommel with flower to top, in its brass scabbard, with 2 rings, the front engraved with stylized trophy and foliage in frosted panels. A 19th Century Burmese or Myanmar Dha sword, the curved and carved ivory hilt detailed with figures and masks within a pierced foliate ground, with white metal mounts, the slightly curved single edged steel blade with white metal inlay, detailed with beasts, birds and foliage and with inlaid wriggle work detail to the reverse, length of blade 70cm and overall length 99.5cm, lacks scabbard, A/F.
A 19th Century Yeomanry officers sword 91cm engraved blade decorated with rider on horseback and scales of justice, pierced gilt leaf basket ray skin wire handle and lion pommel with gilt mounted scabbard. The scabbard inscribed presented to Captain Edmund Peel by the members of Newtown troop of the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry cavalry in honour of the occasion of birth of a son and heir Ist March 1872.
