A mid 19th Century light cavalry officer's sword, probably Russian, curved, pipe backed blade 34", finely etched with wreaths and trophies of weapons and flags within frosted panels, brass hilt, the oval guard with reinforced edges, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, flattened stepped pommel, facetted backstrap, wirebound darkwood grip (small chip to top), in its steel scabbard with 2 domed bands and hanging rings. GC, the blade retaining much original polish, (hilt loose). Plate 5. Note: This sword is stated to have been given to Lt Ewart by Lord Raglan when the former lost his sword.
