Merchant / R.N.', a wire-bound fish-skin grip, and a lion's head pommel, in a black leather scabbard with brass mounts, overall 95cm long; together with a brown leather storage sleeve; and a naval officer's black leather sword belt with cast brass buckle and fittings, the inner face gilt stamped for Gieve, Matthews and Seagrove Ltd.

An 1803 pattern Infantry Officers sword, with 74 cm curved blade, the copper hilt with crowned GR cipher, with wire bound shagreen grip and with lions head pommel, complete with leather and copper scabbard (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The scabbard is approximately 1 cm too short for the sword. The blade is rusted and pitted throughout. There are no obvious markings on the blade or the ricasso. When looking at the cutting edge through a magnifying glass there are 15+ small nicks. The shagreen grip and wire binding appear to be in good order, the hilt and pommel also appear to be in good order. There is a kink in the blade +/- 11 cm from the tip. The pommel is firm and in good order with no loose movement. The handle and wire grips are good intact and firm.
