dating: Second half of the 19th Century provenance: USA, Composite set with belt in thick, black leather (98 x 5 cm) provided with a brass buckle with two elements, shaped as bull's head inside a circle, with remains of not clearly readable marking, maybe 'DEPONIRT'. Holster for a revolver of very big dimensions (e.g. Colt Dragoon). Leather with signs of long use, but still pliable. Together with a knife with single-edged blade, brass quillon and grip covered with leather bands; the relative scabbard obtained from a bayonet scabbard. The buckle is a rare example, see a similar one pictured on page 51 of the volume “TEXAS CIVIL WAR ARTIFACTS” by R. M. Ahlstrom. height holster 39 cm.

A Japanese Katana; the tightly bound shagreen handle terminating in a patinated copper end decorated in low relief with flowerheads, similarly decorated copper band below the pierced brass tsuba decorated with prunus blossom, the painted scabbard (paint worn and away in places) similarly mounted with copper bands very finely detailed in relief and the higher double band as a flowerhead mounted with a support ring, the scabbard terminating in ornate copper and brass Kabuto Gane (68.75cm blade, the full length including scabbard and handle 100cm, probably late 19th/early 20th century). Vendor advises the item originally taken by her uncle as a trophy of war, together with two black & white photographs of naval ratings at HMS Ganges, both photographs containing her uncle (exact location not known)Condition Report: Overall the piece appears to be in good condition with the metalwork having darkened down nicely commensurate with age. The item comes from a private source. The scabbard has several areas of brown paint away (see images on website). No noticeable dents, a few scratches. The press studs function nicely, neither the scabbard nor blade shape has distorted. The Tsuba is very nice quality, the steel blade appears sharp but not excessively so. South African Cavalry Officer’s Sword 1912 Pattern. A rare example, the straight 89cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London (no number), with single fuller and etched both sides with the Imperial Crown, the Arms of South Africa and double legend, ‘South Africa’ ‘Zuid Afrika’, the Proteus plant and panels of scrolling foliage. Massive sheet metal hand guard wrought with floral designs and incorporating buds of the proteus plant, the pommel wrought with laurel sprays. The pistol shaped dermatine grip is covered with a wire bound fishskin. London’, solid sheet steel hand guard with lapped edges and provision for a sword knot, slab brass ribbed hand grips riveted to the tang. Heavy gauge black leather scabbard with top and bottom brass chapes, the upper with a frog stud, a separate brass ‘diamond’ below the top chape is inscribed ’67’. A German Second War Kriegsmarine Officer’s Dagger. An extremely nice condition WKC bladed naval officers dagger, very fine etching of sailing ships to both sides of the mint bright blade. All of the fittings, which include the upper pommel, cross guard and scabbard retain original gilt. Deep orange grip, all grip wire intact. Red felt washer still in place. French Medical Officer’s Dress Sword, this sword was carried by medical officers in the French army during the late-19th and early 20th Century. With victory laurel and entwined snake motif to the forward shell guard. The blade is double-fullered and plain with a makers mark in the design of a Greek helmet pierced by a sword. It comes complete with its original steel scabbard. The owner purchased this in France from a relative of the original owner who was affiliated with the Cavalry. Exceptional condition.
