A 1912 PATTERN CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO KIA CAPTAIN EDGAR RALPH COLES 3RD DRAGOON GUARDS, 88cm fullered blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 43661. etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal arms, crowned GVR cyphers and owner's initials E.R.C, some patination, regulation plated bowl guard, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its field service scabbard, complete with frog and straps. Associated research details that Captain Coles was MID and KIA during the second battle of Ypres near Hooge during the battle of Frezenburg Ridge.

A Vic 1827 pattern Rifle Volunteer officer’s sword, plated blade 32½”, etched on one side with crown, “Rifle Volunteers” wreath and crossed flags, and on the other crown, strung bugle, wreath and crossed flags, in plain panels, regulation triple bar steel hilt, with sideloop, incorporating crowned strung bugle, forward sloping stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, with silvered lace (worn) knot, in a steel scabbard with 2 rings (some dents and pitting). Sword GC (a litle wear to plating)

GC (some service wear, and dark pitting, old black paint to scabbard).
An early 19th century continental cavalry trooper’s sword, curved, fullered blade 32½”, DE at point, brass stirrup hilt with langets and pronounced knucklebow, plain forward sloping pommel and backstrap, swollen copper wirebound leather grip, in its steel scabbard (painted black over heavy pitting) with brass rings (one missing). Basically GC (blade worn and lightly pitted).
An interesting Metropolitan Police sidearm, slightly curved, fullered blade 27”, by Field, with “crown/X/1” stamp on one side at forte and “M.P./1868” with maker’s name on the other, solid brass hilt with knucklebow and quillon, single sidebar, line engraved pommel and backstrap, deeply ribbed grip, spring catch to black leather scabbard with brass locket and frog stud, and chape (dented). Near VGC, a good example. Plate 8 Note: Vendor states: “In 1885 most Met Police swords - approx 200 - held were for use by Met Dockyard Police officers”.
An 1864 pattern cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved fullered blade 35½”, marked “Mole Birmm” on backstrap at forte, sheel steel semi bowl guard pierced with Maltese cross, and with slots for sword knot at the back, plain pommel diced composition grips, in a later steel scabbard with opposing rings. GC (sword does not fully enter scabbard, khaki paint overall).
An Edward VII officer’s sword of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), straight, fullered blade 32½”, by McClyment Dewar & Co, 74 Miller St, Glasgow, etched on one side with crowned “ERVII” cypher and on the other with crown, blank escutcheon and strung bugle, within scrolled panels, regulation plated steel hilt, the pierced guard incorporating nicely engraved crowned strung bugle, rounded pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard (surface rust patches overall), with 2 rings. GC, the blade very good and retaining virtually all original finish (surface rust to inside of guard and pommel).

A mourning sword, plated slender hollow triangular section blade 32”, darkened hilt, with shallow oval dish guard, pierced knucklebow and crossguard with shallow pas d’ane rings, facetted ovoid pommel and similar slender grip, with a little decoration and floral studding overall, in its steel mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings and the ends of shoulder strap with jubilee clips.
