A Georgian Naval Officer's dirk by Charlton, 42cm sharply curved blade decorated with scrolling foliage, a stand of arms and a crowned GR cypher, highlighted in gilt on a blued ground, rubbed and patinated, copper gilt hilt with recurved guard, part lacking, lion's mask pommel, ribbed ivory grip, chain guard lacking, contained in its copper gilt mounted black leather scabbard, the upper mount foliate pierced and with maker's panel.
An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword, 76.cm curved blade decorated with a figure of Britannia, crowned GR cypher and Royal arms, patinated, copper gilt hilt, front part of guard lacking, bold lion's head pommel, chequered ivory grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted tooled leather scabbard, chape lacking. By family tradition this sword was "acquired" by the Irish Highwayman Captain James Freney, although this sword does post-date him, and it is more likely that this tradition applies to the following lot, lot 405.

Scabbard pint lifting from rusted areas on the scabbard, hilt paint rubbed.
