Lot 569

Field Marshal His Grace The Duke Of Wellington KG GCB GCH PC FRS; a fine William IV Field Marshal's sword, circa 1835, purportedly given to The Duke of Wellington. The fine engraved blade inscribed 'Prosser, Maker to The King & Royal Family, Charing Crofs [sic]', with ivory mounts to the hilt and with wire work portepee, lacking scabbard, length 90cm.Wellington was in office 14th November 1834 - 18th April 1835.The sword is presented in the display case used at the Musee Wellington-Waterloo Exhibition in 2015 when this sword formed part of the exhibition.  The sword was offered at Messrs. Christie's Auctioneers in December 2015 following the exhibition. Previously in two UK private collections.

General surface wear with a few knocks throughout. The grip is slightly lifting in areas.

A sabre with unmarked blade, length approx 82cm, to simple guard and leather bound wirework grip, in metal two ring scabbard, for restoration.Additional InformationYes, the scabbard has numerous dents throughout, however the sword does fit into the scabbard without problem, wire grip is intact but worn and somewhat loose and misshapen to the lower section of the grip, the entire guard section very loose, grip itself heavily worn with surface looses, the hilt section in general heavily worn with heavy pitting throughout, blade approximately 3cm wide at centre section, blade length 82cm, scabbard length 87cm.

The full length of the bayonet is 57.5cm. Postage would be a tube.

A mid 19th century French Chassepot bayonet, indistinctly signed and dated 1844 to blade back, blade length 56.5cm (lacking scabbard), a British Remington military issued bayonet dated 1913 with broad arrow marks to blade base and an unmarked combat knife, latter two with scabbards.Additional InformationGeneral wear and tear throughout, Chassepot bayonet has been polished overall, pitting to blades and hilts, corrosion to metal, wear to scabbards, etc, refer to illustrations or request additional if necessary.

A 20th century Japanese katana with etched wave detail to blade, blade length approx 70cm with simple tsuba to cloth wrapped grip, with scabbard.

A Japanese katana for restoration, blade length approx 69cm, with relief decorated tsuba to over wrapped same grip, in possibly associated leather scabbard.Additional InformationThere is a loss to the blade lower section just above the copper wrapping with further nibbles to edge, there is corrosion and pitting and further bluntness to tip, the tsuba quite heavily pitted with some corrosion, further general wear to hilt, the wrap obscures the shark skin so cannot speak to the condition of that though possibly could be poor, also heavily worn, scuffs, scrapes, etc and, as stated, is probably associated, this item is for restoration and will need significant attention, it is sold as seen, viewing advised, request additional images if necessary. No visible trace of a wavy tempering line, there is some movement to the tsuba, some slight movement to the handle, blade appears to run straight to the naked eye and the leather scabbard likewise, although both have quite heavy wear, the blade cutting edge does have several nibbles and losses, the scabbard heavily scuffed and scraped, the pommel somewhat loose, attached with a chord, tsuba also with surface corrosion, some quite deep scratches and gouges, we are currently unable to remove the handle to photograph the tang. Cutting edge, i.e. from near blade base to point of blade curvature approx 60cm, scabbard approx 71cm.

A Japanese WWII period NCO shin-gunto, serial no.98280 to blade base, with brass shaped and pebbled tsuba above arsenal marks and steel grips, with traces of original paint, length approx 91cm, in metal scabbard.Additional InformationGeneral wear and tear, most of the original painted detail lost, blade with dirt and marks. Sold as seen. Yes, the numbers match, as can be seen in the additional images. Scabbard has some dents as well as general heavy wear, the locking mechanism attaching the scabbard to the sword unless pressed functions. To the naked eye, the blade has perhaps a very slight curve to the right when held with cutting edge upwards.The scabbard also.

Three Japanese wakizashi daggers for restoration including bone handled example with sectional bone scabbard and further side arms.Additional InformationGeneral wear throughout, the bone scabbard is now in several parts, with obviously some damage to the joints. The pommel has also come loose with further damage to the joint there.

A Third Reich officer's Dienstdolch dagger, the unmarked blade length 26cm (bent), to orange grip housed in two-ring pebbled scabbard with frog and silver bullion core knot.Additional InformationThe blade has been bent just above the base, the scabbard has a corresponding and sizeable dent, also the fixtures are somewhat loose, further scratches and nibbles to the blade as sell as furniture throughout. Some fraying to the cord and discolouration to the silver bullion work.

A Philippines barong dagger with carved hilt, blade length 36cm, in wooded scabbard.Additional InformationBlade has some imperfections, presumably from manufacture, further general wear, some pitting, there are some splits and repairs to the hilt and the lower carved section is of a different colour, look to be a replacement or later addition. Further general wear, some of the cord loose to the upper section, scabbard with similar general wear.

Two Indian katar daggers, one with gilt detail to hilt, length 39cm, and a smaller dagger with shaped blade (3).Additional InformationGrip is 15.7cm x 8cm. The larger katar now has its scabbard, see images, some pitting to blade, signs of general wear, the smaller katar more heavily pitted and with some surface corrosion, particularly to the sides of the hilt and the smallest dagger also with general pitting and wear.

Including; his original uniform beret (green), along with his Royal Marine ' RM ' shoulder badges, his William Rodgers made commando knife in leather scabbard, a photograph of Kirby, his post-war Certificate Of Service (noting him as Lance Corporal 2389494), his Fairbairn Sykes style commando dagger, a wealth of personal photographs - including some believed to depict the Chettuva beach assault, an HMS Kenya Christmas Day menu (1945), and other items. A rare and important collection of personal Commando effects.  Kirby joined the Royal Marines in 1943 and served aboard HMS Kenya and took part in the Chetuva landing beach assault

A rare WWII Second World War Clements of Sheffield made commando fighting dagger. The ricasso stamped with makers marks, and present within its original leather scabbard. Both the dagger and scabbard retaining the original ' tape ' - used by those in the field to soften any noise should either piece be dropped. Rare dagger. Measures approx; 25cm long.

A WWII Second World War German Nazi Third Reich SG 84/98 III / K98 rifle bayonet having a diagonally ribbed grip, steel hooked pommel with push release stud, steel backstrap, guard, fullered single edge blade with marked ricasso ' E.Pack&S ' ( Ernst Pack & Son, Solingen ) and ' 2328 ' to the other side along with a metal scabbard. The pommel having Waffenamt marks and the blade date ' 39 '. Measures; 41cm overall.

Makers marks for Alex Coppel Solingen, markings to the crossguard ' .26.R.16.155 ' and further markings to the spine of the blade. Measures; 40cm overall.

A fine 19th Century Indonesian Sumatra Kris / Keris Panjang executioner's sword having a finely and intricately carved hilt ( Hulu ) with floral and leaf decoration, silver white metal hilt cup ( Pendokok ), long thin blade ( Bilah ) being forged of different metals with shaped guard to top along with a shaped wooden scabbard ( Sarung ). Measures; 67cm in total.
