A George III naval officer's sword, with a carved ivory handle, lion head pommel, and steel scabbard See illustration Condition report Report by RBThe blade has traces of watered style decoration, unmarked, the brass guard at one end of pommel are worn and rubbed, the ivory is cracked, which should be quite visible from the illustrations, with a small chip repaired just beneath the lion head mouth, the scabbard has two rings and has traces of old light surface rust.Having had another look at the sword, it is possible it is not naval, it is reasonably light weight and may be not so strong for close quarter combat, but may be rather more cavalry based. There are no naval symbols. The scabbard is a good tight fit, this combined with it going in and out of the scabbard with its curve, would indicate the original scabbard. The blade is 68.5 cm, the sword 80 cm, the sword and scabbard 82 cm.
