John Roberts joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16 becoming a Royal Navy diver in 1955, during this period he was part of the bomb and mine disposal unit and was attached to the SBS (Special Boat Service the Navy equivalent to the SAS). He completed 25 years of service ending as a Diving instructor.John Roberts moved onto the renowned diving enterprise COMEX in Aberdeen as head of training aiding the trainee divers to survive saturation diving in the extremely hazardous environment of the North sea. French Napoleonic Period 1815 Blade Cuirassier’s sword.A good scarce example. Single edged straight blade,with large double fullers and hachet point. The back of the blade with maker’s engraved name and dated 1815 and with inspector's stamp of a “L”. Brass four bar open guard with flat balls and leather covered grip this with twelve twist wire binding. The latter surmounted by a brass shaped pommel. Housed in its original steel scabbard with two loose suspension rings. Overall GC Blade length 38 inches
WW2 Combat Fighting Knife.A unusual example, possibly theatre made. The spearpoint 17 cm blade is double edged. The hilt with metal crossguard and pommel with two piece wood grip secured by a single rivet. Contains in a Germanic style metal scabbard with ball point and original leather frog with securing strap. Overall length in scabbard 34 cm.
German Third Reich Army Officer’s Dagger with straps and knot by WKC, Solingen.A good example with amber spiral ivorine grip and plain polished double-edged blade etched with with maker’s knight’ helm logo. Plated eagle crossguard with swastika. Oakleaf decoration to pommel and ferrule. Housed in stippled plated scabbard with two suspension rings and foliate lockets. Complete with silver laced, velvet-backed straps with oakleaf ornamented oval buckles and stippled spring-clips Complete with rather worn knot. Service wear, toned externally, blade bright. GC Provenance, this was acquired in the newly liberated Paris by vendor’s mother, a WAAF. Army (Heer) Officer’s dagger was designed by Paul Casburg in 1935.
Georgian Officer’s Mameluke Hilted Fighting Sword.This is a heavy weight example, with a plain piped back curved 35 inch blade. To the forte an inspection stamp of a Crown over an inverted ‘F’. The back of the blade stamped “Shorn”. The hilt with two piece grip and gilt cross guard terminating in ball finials. Housed in brass scabbard with two loose rings. GC.
Royal Artillery Victorian Officer’s Sword by Wilkinson Sword of LondonThe sword is the 1821 pattern; the slightly curved blade with etched decoration which includes a crowned VR cypher and family crest with “CES”. The forte with cutler’s details of Wilkinson and with blade number ‘15808’ indicting 1867. The hilt with a three bar open guard and shagreen grip retaining twist wire binding. Housed in leather field service scabbard. The vendor believes this sword was carried by Brigadier Norman Vause Sadler OBE DCM., TD who after service at Gallipoli with the Westminster Dragoons, was attached to the topographical section of the Royal Engineers earning the DCM and during the Battle of Britain Commanded the Dover Anti Aircraft Defences resulting in the award of the OBE and would then be present during the Siege of Malta commanding AA guns. Victorian 8th (Scottish) VB King’s Liverpool Regiment Officer’s Broadsword.A rare example, the broadsword is of the regulation pattern, the straight blade with double fuller, this with etched decoration including the title “8TH SCOTTISH V.B. THE KING’S LIVERPOOL RGT”. Fitted with basket guard, retaining scarlet and buff lining and crimson tassel. Housed in steel scabbard of the correct Highland pattern. The scabbard is part covered with polished brown leather. Overall GC etching now faint staining to the blade.
9th Lancers Georgian officer’s Mameluke SwordA rare example of the Mameluke levée sword, with broad flat curved blade etched both sides with crown, crossed guidons (bearing IX), larger figures IX and “LANCERS”, gilt crosspiece with raised edges and decoration, and fine ivorine scales with floral studs. Nicks to edge of blade, etching and gilt rubbed, scabbard absent.
WW2 4 Commando Attributed 1st pattern Fairbairn-Sykes Commando fighting knife.A good and rare carried example, attributed to Driver Frank William Maund of the Royal Artillery who served with 4 Commando The hilt with nickel grip of chequered design. Double edged spear point blade, the ricasso with etched panel Wilkinson Sword Ltd. London, the reverse side the F-S Fighting Knife. Recurved cross guard. Housed in an early pattern brown leather scabbard with nickel rounded chape. Tailored with a leather thong retaining strap the four tangs have been removed. The overall condition is good hard working used knife. The chequered grip is worn through use, the scabbard with field adaptations by the owner and the upper section is fragile. Blade length 16.3cm The Attribution for this knife is given by the vendor, Bosleys have only been able confirm the supplied name served with 4 Commando. Attributed to Driver Frank William Maund of the Royal Artillery who is confirmed as serving with 4 Commando, he was Mentioned in Despatches on the 27th May 1941, this believed to correspond with the 4 Commando Raid on the Lofoten Islands Norway which took place on the 4th March 1941. Still serving with 4 Commando he was reported wounded on the 4th July 1944 whilst fighting in North West Europe.

The hilt with fixed gilt shell guard and single bar guard terminating with a ball finial. The grip overlaid with silvered ribbed sheet. Housed in original polished steel scabbard fitted with two loose rings. Overall GC. Blade possibly repolished.
Napoleonic War Period Officer’s Fighting Sword / Hanger, y Knubley of London. Circa 1790’s.This fighting sword was probably carried by a Naval Officer. The single edged curved 29 inch blade, with engraved decoration of a Crowned GR cypher and Royal Coat of Arms. The hilt with single brass bar guard and plain backstrap to the white bone grip. The latter with twist wire binding. Housed in original black leather and gilt mounted scabbard, this fitted with both frog button and two loose rings. The top mount with engraved cutler’s details of “Knubley & Co. 7 Charing Cross London. The sword is with some age wear, gilt worn to base metal and old repair to the bar guard. Blade with some pitting and engraving faint. Leather to the scabbard remains supple, but has one hole. John Knubley operated from 7 Charing Cross from 1790 to 1797 only.
