Sword: A very good 1827 Pattern Naval Officers sword. S.E. fullered blade 31" etched with Victoria's Crown & Anchor motif. Fine gilt brass hilt with wirebound fishskin grip. In its brass mounted leather scabbard with gold bullion knot. Contained in its pig skin and leather transit case. In collector grade condition (some minor rust staining on blade).
German WW2 era Infantry Officers sword. Brass lions head pommel (Glass eyes missing) wire bound fishskin grip. Nicely etched blade with stands of arms. Plain brass stirrup guard. Blade 32" in good condition. This is a quality sword in its black steel scabbard. No makers mark visible. Lack of Nazi marks may date it earlier than WW2.
HOOD Vs RENOWN: An 1827 pattern Naval Officers sword, originally belonging to Midshipman James Nicholas Wilson (later Lieutenant), who was R.N.V.R. Midshipman on HMS Hood, with acid etched blade and wire bound fish skin grip, with scabbard and original bag. Wilson was Midshipman on HMS Hood. On the 23rd January 1935, while the ships were approaching a pre-arranged rendezvous off Spain (a calm day with perfect visibility), he was off duty standing on Hood's Starboard Bridge when HMS Renown struck the quarterdeck at the stern of Hood, although the damage to Hood was minimal, parts of its propeller breaking off, Renown suffered severe damage to the bow. As he was off duty Wilson captured images of the immediate aftermath of the collision with his Box Brownie camera. Four of these unique pictures accompany this lot and three have never been reproduced following the confiscation of the negatives by the Admiral. (4)
Regimentally Engraved German Army Officers Lion Head Sword by Carl Eickhorn, fine example retaining nearly all of its original fire gilt finish to the lion head top, back strap, guard and eagle with swastika cross guard. Red jewelled eyes to the lion head. Grip retaining the original wire binding. Housed in the original black painted service scabbard. The slightly curved single edged blade is finely engraved with patterned foliage and panel with “Artillerie Regiment No 22 Luneburg” to one side, the other side of the blade etched with German army style eagle and swastika and horse drawn Artillery gun team. Carl Eickhorn makers trade mark to the base of the blade. Some minor paint chips to the scabbard but otherwise a very good example of an original engraved Army officers dress sword.
Fairbairn Sykes Commando Knife, being a late WW2 / early post war example with single piece ribbed grip and brass top nut. Oval steel cross guard. Double edged blade measuring 16 ¾ cms. Housed in the original leather scabbard with brass lower chape. Heavily corroded grip and cross guard with the blade showing signs of sharpening and surface rusting. As found example.
Third Reich SA Enlisted Mans Dress Dagger, brown wooden handle with metal eagle and enamel SA device inserted into the handle. Lower cross guard stamped to the reverse “Nm”. Housed in its original steel scabbard. Blade remains in excellent condition with much of the original finish remaining to the blade. Carl Wusthof Solingen makers trade mark to the base of the blade. The blade measures 22cms in length approx. Some rusting, patina and wear to the exterior. Good untouched example.
1853 Pattern Regimentally Marked Cavalry Troopers Sword, steel swept bar hilt with regimental stamping “10 RH 348” (10th Royal Hussars), two piece leather grips. Sword knot tied to the hilt. Plain single edged slightly curved blade with fuller to the back section. Various acceptance stamps and markings. Blade measures 88cms in length. No scabbard. These swords first saw service during the Crimean War, the 10th Royal Hussars were engaged during the Crimean War at the Siege of Sebastopol and the Battle of Eupatoria.
Luftwaffe 1st Pattern Officers Dress Dagger, blue leather grip retaining the grip wire, zinc metal cross guard and top pommel with swastikas to the centre. Housed in its original steel scabbard with metal mounts but no leather covering. Original aluminium hanging straps attached to the scabbard. Un-maker marked double edged blade measuring 30 ½ cms in length. Some corrosion and bubbling to the metal fittings on the exterior of the dagger.
Kriegsmarine Officers Dress Dagger, white celluloid grip retaining the original wire binding, gilt brass eagle pommel top with swastika to the centre. Cross guard with the original button release catch in working order. Brass scabbard with etched decoration and two hanging rings. Original Kriegsmarine issue silver bullion wire dress knot (portepee) loosely tied to the grip. Double edged blade with etching of foliage and anchors etc measuring 24 ½ cms in length. E u F Horster, Solingen makers trade mark to the base of the blade. Some surface staining to the blade but otherwise good untouched example.
1821 Pattern British Light Cavalry Officers Sword, of standard form with swept guard, fishskin grip retaining the original wire. Attached to the guard is original officers dress knot. Sword housed in the brown leather field service scabbard. Single edged blade with partial fuller. Blade with remains of the original etched decoration. Some surface staining to the blade and grease. Blade measures 88cms in length.
1885 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword, large dish guard with pierced Maltese cross decoration, guard stamped “11.1887 I A RHA 65”. Two piece chequered leather grips. Back strap stamped with various markings and acceptance stamps. Polished slightly curved blade with fuller to the back edge. Blade measures 85cms in length. No scabbard.
