Good condition, well re-gilt and re-leathered.

^ Regulation sword for Flag officer, Captain or Commander c.1805, straight single edge blade 32.3” cut with single fuller, etched with crowned 1810-1816 royal arms, crowned fouled anchor, naval trophies and foliage and retaining some original blued and gilt decoration overall for half length, regulation gilt brass stirrup hilt, fouled anchors in relief on langets, lion’s head pommel, wire bound ivory grip, in its leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts. Good condition, requires cleaning, probably retaining most original gilding overall with some age wear.

^ Naval officer’s dress sword c.1812-1825, hollow ground triangular section blade 29” etched with small trophies and a standing figure with feather head dress and retaining some original blued and gilt decoration, gilt brass stirrup hilt chiselled with foliage, crowned fouled anchors in relief, pommel chiselled as a lion couchant, gripstrap engraved with laurel and serpent, wire bound chequered ivory grip, in its scabbard with gilt brass mounts, locket signed Dudley, Grand Parade, Portsmo and engraved with a sea horse. Good condition, some age wear, leather refurbished, chape restored.

^ Infantry officer’s sword spadroon with hallmarked silver mounts by Thomas Cullum, London, 1794, maker’s stamp TC, straight single edge blade 32.25” cut with a single fuller and etched with crowned GR and martial trophies, stirrup hilt of conventional form with side bar, ring for dress knot, cushion-shaped pommel, reeded ivory grip, retaining the top half of its leather scabbard with all the HM silver mounts including chape, locket engraved Cullum King’s Cutler Charring Crofs within a circle, twin hanging rings, oval button. Good condition, some age wear, bottom half of leather scabbard missing. Note: for details of the maker see London silver-hilted Swords, L Southwick, Royal Armouries 2001, p.84-5.

^ 1831 Pattern general officer’s sword of Major Richard Baker, First Portuguese Regiment of Queen’s Lancers, British Auxiliary Legion, regulation blade 30” etched with crowned WIVR, oak wreaths, crossed sword and baton, and A LINNEY, 23 Regent St London Warranted, regulation hilt with gilt brass mounts, 2 piece ivory grips, bullion dress knot (well worn), in its lacquered gilt brass regulation scabbard engraved ‘SWORD OF MAJOR RICHARD BAKER, FIRST REGIMENT OF LANCERS, BRITISH AUXULIARY LEGION, PORTUGAL AND SPAIN, 1833 TO 1837’. Fine condition. Note: sold with extensive research material. Amos Linney moved to 23 Regent St in 1834. Richard Baker born 1810, commissioned Lieut. 1st Portuguese Queen’s Lancers Nov.1832; entered Spanish Service as Capt. July 1835 in same regiment; promoted Major March 1837. Joined the New Zealand Company 1839, emigrated there, one of the first settlers in Wellington (Baker Street named after him), district magistrate, commanded local volunteer cavalry corps, watercolour painter, died 1854.

^ Good 1796 pattern type cavalry officer’s sword c.1815-1816, regulation blade 30” blued and gilt, etched with crowned GR, Royal Arms (1801-1816), maker’s Cooper & Craven, Warranted, together with a standing cavalry officer, trophy of arms and assorted foliage, gilt brass stirrup hilt with lion’s head pommel and lions heads on langets retaining most original gilding, diced ivory grip, in its leather scabbard with gilt copper mounts (gilding worn). Good condition. Note: Cooper & Craven are recorded working as sword cutlers in Moor Street, Birmingham 1815-1816.

^ Rare French officer’s sword spadroon in the English manner (à monture à l’anglais) c.1800 probably for a naval officer, flattened diamond section blade 32.75” blued and gilt for half-length and etched with sun in splendour, laurel wreath, military, floral and foliate trophies, gilt brass 5 ball hilt with bright cut decoration, 5 ball side bar enclosing small oval plate, ‘cigar band’ to reeded ivory grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard. Good untouched condition, gilding worn.

Good untouched condition
