A Society sword, plain DE blued blade 31½”, with rounded tip, marked IL (? unclear) 10:22 at forte on one side, device (unclear) on the other, large wooden cruciform hilt with thigh bone shaped crossguard, long straight grip and small skull pommel, in brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings (repaired at point). An interesting officer’s sword of The R Army Medical Corps, almost straight, fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson, no 30276 (for 1890) on backstrap, etched with flat topped crown and VR cypher with wreath, on both sides, in foliate geometric panels, owner’s name “G S McLoughlin” (of the R.A.M.C) in scroll at forte on one side, plated infantry pattern hilt with GVR cypher (c. 1934 “when the RAMC finally changed over to the pattern 1897” sword, Robson p245), chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with 2 rings, and leather case (worn); 2 studio photographs, photostat and other details of George Somers McLoughlin (1867-1943) who served with the RAMC in E. Africa, the Boer War, WWI and Staff appointments, and was awarded the DSO and made a CMG, from 1890 - 1922, retiring with the rank of Major General; see also next lot. Very Good condition. Plate 45
†A cavalry officer’s sword of the King’s German Legion, curved, fullered blade 32”, with narrow back fuller inscribed monogram CF (Corlaux Frères?) on one side at forte, and “Klingenthal” on the other, etched in frosted panels, containing a little original gilt, on one side with a stylized mythical beast, floral urn, cactus and “GR” cypher, and on the other side 1816-37 Royal Arms with supporters and motto, trophies of instruments and rod of Aesculapius with twin serpents, semi basket hilt with flat knucklebow and 3 bars on the outer side and 2 on the inner, plain pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip (replaced), gilt sword knot, in its steel scabbard (polished bright) with 2 rings. †A Prussian 1856 pattern Hussar officer’s sword, curved, pipe backed blade 32½”, double edged at point, and etched at forte on one side “Abegg. Lieutenant im 2 ten Rhein Hus. Regt. No 9”with stylised scroll panel and “Eisenhauer”, similar panel “Damaststahl” on the other side with crudely incised initials “FK”, Prussian Royal Arms in panel to one side at 6” from hilt, (replated) semi basket guard with broad pierced panels, plain pommel and backstrap with ears to wirebound fishskin grip, in (replated) scabbard with 2 rings (throat mount missing), with an Austrian “FJ1” sword knot and tassels. A post-1902 naval officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade 31½”, etched with Royal Arms on one side and crowned fouled anchor on the other, on scrolled fenestrated panels, regulation gilt half basket hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor, turn down inner portion which locks to the scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound white sharkskin group, with gilt knot, in its gilt mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings. Very Good Condition the gilt good overall (one or two tiny rust specks to blade edges). Plate 41 £300-350
†A French M1854 Carabinier’s sword, straight double fullered blade 39”, marked “Mre Impale de Chatt 8bre 1859 = Carabre Mle 1854” on backstrap, brass hilt, the guard with reinforced edges, the knucklebow with inspector’s stamps and no 1265, slightly forward sloping cap shaped pommel, leather grip, (wire removed) in its steel scabbard with 2 rings, with a knot and tassel. Good Condition, a clean example with a pleasing dark patina to scabbard. Plate 40 £300-400
A George IV 1822 pattern infantry field officer’s sword, slightly curved, pipe backed blade 32½”, lightly etched for most of its length with crowned Geo IV cypher Union wreath and trophies, within scrolled panels, regulation brass hilt, retaining a little original gilt, incorporating crowned Geo IV cypher, with turn down inner portion, stepped pommel and ornamental backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip (some wear), in its brass scabbard with 2 rings. A fine World War I Admiralty prize dirk, blade 18" double edged towards point, by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London and retailed by Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove Ltd, London Portsmouth & Devonport, etched with crowned fouled anchor on one side and crowned GVR cypher with presentation inscription “Admiralty Prize, Seamanship R.N. College, Keyham, 1916, Cadet Capt. J.G. Deneys”, gilt hilt with applied fouled anchor in crowned wreath to crossguard with acorn finials, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound white sharkskin grip, with dress knot (minor wear) in its gilt mounted leather scabbard with locking catch to guard and 2 opposing rings. Very Good Condition, the blade virtually mint state. Plate 41 £350-450

A Tanto Aikuchi Kiaken, a small Japanese Knife, Edo period, forged like a sword with fabulous blade with obvious cloudy wavy Hamon, having a copper habaki and the tang is secured into the hilt, measuring 9'' long including sheath, the blade being 6'' approx. The dark brown lacquered scabbard with cord loop, decorated with warrior on horseback to the scabbard, and the knife having yellow metal fittings of a bird on the hilt. (This knife was traditionally carried by men and women of the Sumari class in Japan, useful as an indoor weapon when the long katana and intermediate wakizashi were inconvenient to swing. Women also carried Kiaken in their kimono obi for good luck and protection).
Bayonet - A Model 1866 Brass handled Yataghan bladed 'Chasspot' type bayonet. Top of blade shows manufacture at MUTZIG in May 1869. The Scabbard is regimentally marked to the 16th Landwehr Infantry Regiment. Worn but sound condition, lacks frog stud. Relic from the France-Prussian War of 1870
