A British 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword attributable to Lieutenant Colonel Duncan Athol Davison O.B.E., D.L.: piquet weight version of regulation form with straight etched blade and pierced steel hilt displaying EVIIR cypher, leather sword knot, steel scabbard; in a brown leather sword bag bearing the initials 'D.A.D.'. See also lot 1 for this man's medals.
The Great War period 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword carried by Captain Norman Douglas Fourdrinier, 6th Battalion the Middlesex Regiment, of regulation form with blade etching incorporating George V cypher and 'N. D. FOURDRINIER', by Wilkinson and numbered 50060, with leather sword knot and in leather covered scabbard. Entered France 02/05/15. Entitled to 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals as a Lieutenant. Wounded and issued Silver War Badge. Placed on the retired list "on account of ill health caused by wounds 13th September 1919"

An unusual late 18th Century socket bayonet, by Thomas Gill, hollow triangular section blade 12.5 in., marked 'THO GILL' and with crown inspection marks, muzzle ring diameter approximately 21mm, socket length 3.2 in., stud to muzzle length 1.4 in., with no provision for either the Hanoverian or Lovell catch, socket with rack number 3 over 3, leather scabbard with brass locket and chape, the former with round frog stud on the ridge side rather than the flat, the latter with pointed terminal, possibly an artillery or a sergeant's India pattern example. A 19TH LANCERS OFFICER'S MAMELUKE AND SABRETACHE ENSEMBLE OF SERINGAPATAM INTEREST, 79.5cm curved clipped back blade etched with scrolling foliage, laurel wreaths, magic eyes, stands of arms, NIAGARA SERINGAPTAM ASSAYE and the regimental title, patinated, characteristic hilt, the crossguard decorated with stands of arms and regimental devices, two-piece ivory grips, contained in its black velvet wrapped wooden scabbard, with gilt mounts chased with the figure of St George and the Dragon, together with its companion sabretache, the flap with maker's trade label, owner's name and the date 1819. (2) Velvet renewed and gilding refreshed.
A PRINCE OF WALES VOLUNTEERS OFFICER'S MAMELUKE AND SHOULDER BELT PLATE ENSEMBLE, 79cm slightly curved clipped back blade with spear point etched with a Greek key motif, the magic eye in the talismanic fashion, further etched with 82nd regiment of foot devices and the owner's initials, the back edge etched with maker's panel for Reddell, characteristic copper gilt hilt , the crossguard engraved with the magic eye to either side, two-piece ivory grips, contained in its gilt mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard, the upper mount with maker's panel and all of the mounts decorated with the magic eye and stands of arms, together with its companion enamel and silver highlighted gilt officer's shoulder belt plate. The initials are those of General Henry Adolphus CB Proctor the Colonel of the regiment. (2)
A VICTORIAN MADRAS ARTILLERY OFFICER'S SWORD TO MAJOR GENERAL EARDLEY WILLIAM CHILDERS, 89cm curved blade by HILL BROTHERS, 3 OLD BOND ST LONDON, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VR cypher, an artillery piece, MADRAS ARTILLERY and owner's crest and initials, regulation three-bar steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. 2nd Lt 1851, Lt 1857, 2nd Captain 1861, Captain 1866, Major 1872, Lt Col 1872, Colonel 1877 and General by 1880, retired 1882 and died in London in 1883 aged 50.
AN 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE 82ND PUNJABIS, 82cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 37277, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VR cypher, Royal arms and owner's name N. E. HOWELL, regulation pierced steel hilt incorporating a crowned VR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Captain Howell was killed in action on the 7th of January 1916 at the Relief of Kut.
A SCARCE 3RD BENGAL CAVALRY OR SKINNER'S HORSE TROOPER'S SWORD, 91.5cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 150 and also bearing an India stamp, regulation steel bowl guard also numbered 150 and applied with the letters and numbers 3BC in brass to the front, patent solid hilt with riveted two-piece chequered grips. Scabbard lacking. An example exists in the National Army Museum and bears the serial no. 462 on the blade and 463 on the steel mounted leather scabbard. Wilkinson manufactured 28 similar pieces though specifically for Officers.
A CLEAN WILLIAM IV 1821 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD BY MOORE, 88cm bright pipe-backed blade with spear point, etched with crowned WIVR cypher's to either side and a maker's panel at the forte, regulation three-bar steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard.

AN 1853 PATTERN CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD TO THE 7TH HUSSARS, 89.5cm slightly curved fullered blade by MOLE and bearing various Ordnance marks, some staining and a later engraved name, regulation three-bar steel hilt, engraved at the quillon 7H over the rack number 192, two-piece chequered composition grips, contained in its black painted steel scabbard.
A VICTORIAN PATENT SOLID HILT LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE FOURTH HUSSARS BY WILKINSON, 89cm fullered blade etched with scrolling foliage, regimental motifs, crowned VR cypher, crowned Royal Arms and the owner's initials A. G. C. B. and stamped with the serial no. 33047, regulation steel three-bar patent solid hilt, wire bound grip, contained in its field service scabbard. Complete with a copy of the Wilkinson Sword register entry, confirming the sword was made for A. G. C. Bruce of the 4th Hussars 26th February 1895. Bruce left the 4th Hussars after a very short period and later was the subject of a libel writ issued by Winston Churchill.

M2991 stamped on the back edge, regulation three-bar steel hilt with wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel mounted leather scabbard. The scabbard probably denotes service in India or Africa.

Some lifting to plating on hilt and scabbard.
