A GOOD 19th CENTURY FULL ARMOUR, deeply etched all over with foliate scrolls and mythical beasts on a black ground, all parts with gadrooned edges. The close helmet of good form, pointed upper & lower visor, with roped edges. The breast with etched 'spread eagle' coat of arms, paired with a plain back plate, the tassets of three lames. The gorget, to which is attached the pauldrons of four lames, with vambraces consisting of upper cannon, winged couters and lower cannons, all with gadrooned decoration. Gauntlets with articulated hands with fingers. The cuisses with gadrooned borders, with winged puleyns. Lower leg defences with articulated pointed toe sabatons. With a two-handed broadsword with double-edged triple fullered blade with man in the moon maker's marks, cross shaped flat quillions, twisted wire grip with ovoid pommel, with a black leather scabbard. Armour 6ft 2in tall plus plinth. Sword 46" long. Mounted on a stand above a wooden plinth.

A WWII GERMAN SS DAGGER MADE BY ERNST PACK & SOHNE IN 1938, the dagger is stamped RZM 1211/38 and comes from the transition period when the daggers were being produced in Germany, the blade is clean but does show age related wear, the scabbard still retains its hanger but some of the silver coloured metal parts show up scratches and general wear and tear, the cross guard and the handle are in good condition but have some pitting on them and again age related wear, the blade fits nicely around, this seems to be a later issue dagger and the fitting are nickel plated

Prestigious swords with richly trimmed sheaths, guards and hilts of the Great Migration Period on the Cimmerian Bosphorus are very few, although some specimens have been excavated from Kerch, Phanagoria, Hermonassa and Dzhurga-Oba. They were either custom-made or received as war booty. This sword belongs to a group of spathae of late Roman typology spread among the Germanic and Nomad foederati, and garrison troops of the Northern Black Sea and Bosphorus. [4, No Reserve]

A Migration Period sword, originating from Central Asia, often used by nomadic populations and particularly by the Huns, defined as a Nomadic-Asiatic sword by Menghin, or as a sword with plate guard. The long and thin blade, with a lenticular or lozenge section, was equipped with a guard composed of an iron plate inserted into the tang. Little is known about the scabbard of these swords but it is known that they usually had disc-shaped pommels, and stones hanging from the pommel or hilt. This typology was widespread in Central Europe by the Huns and there are also specimens attested in Gaul in the 5th century. [2, No Reserve]

Two Shamshir swords, South Arabian, c.1900, one with iron and embossed gold sheet mounted cross guard, curving pistol-grip hilt with hardwood facings and gold sheet mounted pommel, plain curving single-edged steel blade, in an iron mounted and fabric covered wooden scabbard with embossed gold sheet mounts with two support rings, blade approx. 32" long, sword 97cm long total; the other with iron and embossed gold sheet mounted cross guard, curving pistol-grip hilt with bone facings (one missing), and gold sheet mounted pommel, with lightly curving blade with fullering to top section, in a similar scabbard with sword knots, blade approx. 31.5", sword 95.5cm total (2) Provenance: Purportedly gifted by Ibn Saud to the vendor’s grandfather while he was a diplomat stationed in Saudi Arabia before WWII. Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, 1880-1953, known in the West as Ibn Saud, was a tribal, political, and religious leader who founded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reigned as its first King from 1932 until his death in 1953.  Condition Report: The first described: the sheet gold of the grip is lifting, split and bent at the widest point of the mount.  Typical wear to the grip consistent with age.  The blade is tarnished and is possibly replaced.  The scabbard has wear, dark tarnishing and indentations to the gilt mounts.  Heavier knocks and mis-shaping to the tip.  The leather elements are dry and have shrunk a little to be expected with age and use.  One section of leather at the top is lifting and the pins securing all the leather elements are lost.  The second described: as noted in the description, one bone mount to the grip is lacking.  One securing pin to the remaining bone mount is missing but the mount is securely in place.  The gold sheet mount to the grip on the side with the missing bone mount in dented and mis-shapen at the widest point.  Typical wear and tarnishing overall consistent with age and use.  The blade is possibly replaced. The scabbard with losses and heavy wear to the leather elements.  A dent to the side of the top gilt mount.  The lower half mounted in sheet white metal is heavily tarnished and dull in appearance.  There are inevitable knocks and bruises to be expected with age and use.

Auctioneer's Note: After WWI Germany was forbidden an air force by the Treaty of Versailles however the Deutscher Luftsport-Verband (German Air-sport Association) was formed in March 1933 from various sports flying clubs and had branches for aeroplane, gliding and balloon flying. Under cover of the sporting DLV, many future Luftwaffe pilots trained to fly. DLV was embodied with the NSKK in March 1935 and on 1st March 1937 Luftwaffe was formed.Condition Report:Good condition consistent with age and use.Usual wear to plating of cross-guard and silvering of knot.Minor withdrawal scratching to blade.Scabbard throat with various post-war stamps and No.33.Mounts are plated on brass/tombac so possibly a post-war compilation.
