A GERMAN OFFICERS SWORD. An Imperial German period Cavalry officers sword, complete with it's steel scabbard. Cast brass hilt with lions head pommel and stirrup guard, decorative backstrap and mounts. Single-edged pipeback blade of 30.1/4" length, crossed lances and swords and a shield in the langets. Black steel scabbard with one mounting ring affixed. Number 20 on the blade conforms with the maker WKC's pattern in Swords of Germany 1900-45 (John Angolia)
A COMMANDO DAGGER & TWO BAYONETS a/f. A WW11 period Commando Dagger with knurled brass hilt, rust affected blade 6.1/4" long. Complete with scabbard in need of repair/re-stiching of leather. A German Butcher Bayonet with steel scabbard. The blade marked Waffenfabrik Mauser A G.Oberndorf a N, crown over 17 on the spine. A K98 Gt War bayonet and steel scabbard, various numbered markings to blade. (3)
AN AUSTRALIAN COMMANDO DAGGER. An Australian Commando dagger of an unknown manufacturer. Based on the Fairburn-Sykes fighting knife, with shortened 1907-13/14 bayonet scabbard and frog. Knurled brass hilt with thin crossguard, broken double-edged blade of 5" length, missing some 1.5/8" of the point.
A JAPANESE KATANA SIGNED SUKESADA. A Shin Gunto mounted officers Katana, lacking its cord bindings to the Tsuka. The two character signature of Suke Sada is on the single hole tang. The 26" blade is in clean condition, with a clear temper line. Suke Sada is known to have worked in Bizen province, C1650-1680. Other smiths of that name/family worked in Bizen from 1490 onwards. Steel scabbard with the Tsuka complete less the cordage. Captain Hambrey's permission to own the sword 8/4/1947, by the original certificate is with the sword. W.A.Hambrey served in the 17th Indian Division (Black Cats) as Signals Officer (RCOS). His medals etc, appear in a later lot. See Illustration
An unusual WWI & WWII Naval Interest collection of items belonging to Joseph Dobson, Royal Navy. Comprising an 1827 pattern Naval Officers dress sword with gilded handle and leather scabbard with slip case; a Williamson & Sons bicorn hat in fitted metal box; a medal group comprising: the 1914-15 star, the British War Medal, the Victory medal, the 1939-1945 star, The Atlantic Star, George VI Defence Medal, and the George VI 1939-1945 Medal (7) together with miniatures; assorted bosuns whistles, a silver plated and enamel HMS Daedalus novelty hat shaped inkwell, cut throat razors, pen knives, badges, AOFB Froth Blowers cufflinks, service certificate, naval books and other items.
GERMAN SECOND WORLD WAR PERIOD NAVAL (KRIEGS MARINE) DIVERS KNIFE, with fullered 22mm blade stamped with Nazi eagle device, and having brass mount with turned wooden handle within a cylindrical threaded turned wooden scabbard. Overall 35mm approximately long. CONDITION REPORT: Basically good overall. Some scuffs and surface wear commensurate with use but no noted significant damage or losses.

An Imperial German Naval officer’s sword, blade 29½” with early Eickhorn mark and etched with crowned fouled anchor, battle cruiser and scrolled foliage (faint), the iron hilt with folding shell guard embossed with crowned anchor and oak leaves, the knucklebow and backstrap also embossed with oak leaves, the lion’s head pommel with red and green glass eyes, with wire bound white celluloid covered grip, in its leather scabbard with embossed iron mounts, the hilt and scabbard mounts with faint traces of gilt. Basically GC (scabbard leather creased, the iron mounts with some dark patina and rust stains). Plate 8
A Third Reich cavalry officer’s sword, plain plated blade 32½”, the brass stirrup hilt embossed with oak leaves, crossed swords on langet and lion’s head pommel with red glass eyes, with wire bound black plastic covered grip, in its black painted steel scabbard with portepee. GC (slight bubbling to scabbard paint). Note the absence of any Nazi insignia. Plate 8
A Vic Midshipman’s dirk, SE blade 17½”, by Matthews, Portsea, Portsmouth, etched with crowned fouled anchor and crowned VR cypher within scrolled foliate panels, regulation copper hilt with acorn finial crossguard and central crowned fouled anchor in wreath, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound (AF) sharkskin grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 opposing rings and dress knot. Basically GC (some wear overall)
A French M1833 naval cutlass, slightly curved, shallow fullered blade 26½”, stamps at forte, etched with an anchor on both sides, and with “Manufure Rale de Chatellerault Juin 1838” on backstrap, iron half basket guard with reinforced edges, facetted cap shaped pommel and grip, in its leather scabbard with brass locket and frog stud (chape missing). GC Plate 9
A post 1902 RN officer’s sword, straight slender fullered blade 31”, etched with R Arms, and crowned fouled anchor within rope bordered oak wreath panels, regulation gilt half basket hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor, and with turn down side guard which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel, wirebound sharkskin grip, with blue and gilt dress knot, in its brass mounted leather scabbard and oilskin cover; together with black leather sword belt and slings, gilt WBC. Near VGC, the blade retaining virtually all original polish.
A scarce post 1902 officer’s sword of the Royal Indian Marines, almost straight, fullered blade 31½”, by J R Gaunt & Son Ltd, Late Edward Thurkle, Denmark St, Soho, London, etched on both sides with crown, star and fouled anchor with “R I M”, in scrolled fenestrated panels, naval style brass half basket hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor with “RIM”, turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, tall pommel and fluted backstrap, wirebound (slightly AF) fishskin grip, with gilt knot (worn) in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings. GC, the blade retaining most original polish (small pitting patches to back edge). Plate 9
A good Dutch Grenadier officer’s sword, c 1935, slightly curved, fullered plated blade 33½” by Eickhorn, marked “Regiment Grenadier” on backstrap, with “Yzerhouwer” in scroll on one side near forte, gilt stirrup hilt with acorn finial to crossguard, lozenge langets, the outer one bearing a WM grenade, foliate panel on outer edge of guard with WM crowned “W” in oval, lion’s head pommel, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with single ring. Near VGC, the blade and hilt retaining virtually all original finish (scabbard plating slightly bubbled with rust patches at point) Plate 8

A Vic General officer’s 1831 pattern mameluke hilted sword, curved, flat blade 33½”, DE at point, by Manton & Co, England, etched with crowned VR cypher on one side and crossed baton and sword on the other, in scrolled foliate and floral panels, ornamental panelled crossguard with langets incorporating crossed baton and sword in central wreath, white composition grips with rosettes and backstrap, in its brass scabbard with 2 crosslet mounts and rings. An early Vic 1822 pattern infantry officer’s sword, slightly curved, pipe backed blade 32½”, by Jones 6 Regent St London, etched with crowned VR cypher and wreath in panel on both sides, regulation gilt brass hilt with turn down inner portion and incorporating crowned VR cypher, stepped pommel, ornamental backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip (small patches missing at top) in its gilt brass mounted leather scabbard (worn and limp) with 2 rings and frog stud. GC, the blade retains a little original polish, the hilt and mounts approx 50% gilt (hilt slightly mis-shapen, chape loose, nicks and rust patches to blade edges) Plate 9

London W, and etched with winged lightning, grenade “4th VB Lon. Div RA”and cannon in scrolled fenestrated panels, with owner’s initials “TRM” at forte, regulation triple bar steel hilt with stepped pommel and chequered thumbpiece to backstrap, fishskin grip (wire removed), in its steel scabbard with single ring (the other missing). An ERII troopers sword of the Household Cavalry, slightly curved, plated blade 34½”, by Wilkinson, no 128608, marked “8465 - 99 - 973 - 6888. WS (broad arrow) 99” on backstrap, plated pierced hilt incorporating crowned LG, plain pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, buff leather liner and knot, in its plated scabbard with 2 rings. VGC (minor nicks to tip of scabbard). Plate 9
A WWI officer’s sword of The Royal Artillery, almost straight fullered blade 35”, by Wilkinson no 50434 (for 1916) on backstrap, etched with crowned R Arms, Union wreath with GVR cypher and motto, cannon, winged lightning and “Royal Artillery”, plated triple bar hilt, stepped pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, with knot, in its leather FS scabbard with frog. Near VGC the blade retaining its original finish, (rust speckles to hilt, mostly on the inside). Plate 9
A continental light cavalry trooper’s sword, curved shallow fullered blade 32½”, with “tapered” back edge for most of its length and stamped “B” at forte, steel stirrup hilt with tapered langets and small slotted side loop, plain pommel and backstrap, wooden grip (replaced), in its heavy steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (worn, scabbard pitted, dark rust patina overall).
A scarce sidearm in the style of an 1856 pattern sword bayonet, recurved blade 20½”, by Kratz, Solingen, iron crossguard and solid pommel, chequered composition grips secured by 5 small studs, in its steel mounted leather scabbard. GC (minor wear and light pitting to hilt and scabbard mounts)
A good late 19th century Prussian M1852 cavalry sword, slightly curved pipe backed blade 35”, clipped back at point, marked Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen at forte, steel basket hilt with large pierced panels, plain forward sloping pommel and backstrap with ears to ribbed leather covered grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings.
