A WW2 German Kriegsmarine officer's dagger, by F.W.Holler, Solingen. Off white / ivory coloured celluloid grip, complete with twisted wire binding. Pommel set with eagle and swastika, plus fouled anchor motif and release catch button set into the cross guard. Leather washer at the ricasso, plus the etched F W Holler makers mark. Good clean blade, with double fuller, and etched sailing ship and anchor detail. Complete with brass scabbard, with 2 suspension rings, and usual etched lightning bolt detail. Approximately 41.7cm length in scabbard, blade length 25cm. Condition: very good. Intact celluloid grip with no cracks or chipping, plus intact wire binding. Evidence of old polish in amongst the design to the pommel, cross guard and scabbard. Good clean blade, with clear etched design and makers mark. Good scabbard, with only a very slight depression to the metal around the area of the lightning bolts (often seen in the area of the scabbard). The blade release catch works well. Overall, a very good example of its type.

A British 1907 pattern Wilkinson made bayonet with scabbard and leather frog.Stamped with the date of ‘9.17’ for September 1917 to the ricasso, plus the makers mark, broad arrow, bend test mark, and various inspection marks.Standard slab wooden grips, secured by 2 screw, plus a release catch button the pommel.Complete with leather scabbard, with the usual steel chape and throat area, the latter having a rounded frog stud.Faint mark to the steel chapeThe leather frog is also faintly marked, and seems to read as ‘BH&G Ltd’ which would indicate it was made by Barrow Hepburn & Gale, and would date the frog to the post WW1 era (company formed in 1920).There is a very faint date mark to the frog, which could be 1935.Approximately 57.6cm overall length in scabbard, blade length 43.5cm.Condition: generally good, with normal age and service wear.Good colour and patina to the wooden grips, plus some darkening to the steel on the pommel and cross guard.Good level of bluing remaining to the blade, and no apparent corrosion.Scabbard generally good, with just a small stress crack to the leather. Some loss to the leather frog on the reverse side, not affecting its use or appearance from the front side.
A WW2 Hitler Youth Knife, German badges, British patches, and other items once belonging to 412757 Gnr C.Read of the 52nd Lowland Division. To include: an original late war period Hitler Youth Knife by Tigerwerk Lauterjung & Co, Solingen, marked ‘RZM M7/68’ to the ricasso, and ‘Tiger Solingen’ to the blade. Complete with chequered plastic grip, and inset enamelled HJ diamond emblem, leather washer at the ricasso, and black painted scabbard. The scabbard is missing the usual riveted in place leather belt loop and retaining strap. Plus, a 1938 dated ‘Gautag 10 Jahre’ German day badge / tinnie, a Reichsarbeitsdienst der Weilichen ‘RADwj’ Women’s Labour Service commemorative brooch by Assmann, a pair of WW2 / 1950’s 52nd Lowland Scottish Mountain Division embroidered shoulder titles (one appearing to be uniform removed), a WW2 22nd Field Regiment Royal Artillery Flash, 2 x Reichbanknotes (100 Marks, and 5000 Marks), a military hackle, a 1947 Dortmund military tattoo medallion and accompanying souvenir programme, a chromed cigarette case with bade of Westfalen on the front, bakelite uniform buttons, a pair of WW2 military style spectacles, and an empty champagne bottle dating from the end of WW2, which is over stamped in red to label, ‘Reserved For Allied Armies’, which was supposedly given to Gnr Read (and drank) at the end of WW2. Notes: Gnr Read was a career soldier, serving for over a decade in the armed forces, through WW2 and as part of the British Army on the Rhine. All of the items listed above were acquired by him during his time in Germany, or were worn as part of his uniform. Condition: varies to each piece. The HJ knife has seen much service wear, with scratches and loss of finish to the usual area of the pommel (from the retaining strap). The grips and inset diamond HJ badge are both good. The blade has darkened with age, and shows evidence of sharpening. The scabbard has some paint loss, and as mentioned above, the leather let loop usually attached to the scabbard is absent. Both of the German badges are good, and retain their fixing pins. The British cloth patches are good, with one of the shoulder titles appearing to be unused and much cleaner than the other. The tattoo medal is good, with its accompanying booklet being complete, but a little grubby. One of the lenses to the glasses is cracked, and the bank notes show much wear from age and circulation.
A pre WW2 German K98 bayonet, dated 1938 to the spine of the blade. Complete with wooden slab grips, blued pommel and blade, and steel scabbard with frog stud. Marked at the ricasso for the maker ‘P.Weyersberg’, and has the serial number of ‘7528h’. The bayonet is also Waffenamt marked to the pommel area. The scabbard is non matching, without any signs of a serial number or any other kind of marks, and likely to pre-date the blade by some margin, likely WW1 era (it is nevertheless a good fit). Approximately 40.2cm length in scabbard, blade length 24.5cm. Condition: some service and age related wear. The wooden grip are intact and secure, with some age related darkening and patination. The bluing remains to the pommel, but its mottled with light surface corrosion. The blade is very good, with almost all the bluing remaining, and just normal track lines caused by withdrawal from its scabbard. The scabbard is structurally sound, but has all over light corrosion mottling to the surface.
A WW1 era P1907 Canadian issued bayonet, by Wilkinson.Dated ‘2.18’ at the ricasso for February 1918, plus a broad arrow mark, bend test mark, and various inspection marks.Slab wooden grips, secured by 2 screws.Steel cross guard, muzzle ring, and pommel, the latter with a release catch stud, and what appears to be the Canadian Government ownership mark.Letter O stamped to backpiece.Complete with steel mounted leather scabbard, with both the chape and throat marked ‘RE’ indicating it was manufactured by Remington.Overall length in scabbard 57.3cm, blade length 43cm.Condition: generally good.Wooden grips solid and free from major flaws. Some scratching to the pommel, and scabbard throat areas, but they nevertheless remain in good condition.Generally clean blade, with some small patches of mottling, plus a little pitting to the spine in one area. One of the staples securing the scabbard throat to the leather is missing, but is still securely held in place by the remaining staple.
An 1892 pattern Edward VII Gothic hilt infantry officers sword, with leather field scabbard. Half basket hilt with Edward VII cypher, along with the usual fish skin grip with brass wire binding. Chequered back piece and plain pommel. Usual ‘dumbbell’ shaped blade for the top section, and then of plain L flattened form. Proof disc inset at the ricasso, which simply reads ‘Proved P’. Unusually, it has no etched decoration whatsoever to either side of the blade, which may indicate it was perhaps a senior NCO’s sword rather than a commissioned officers piece. Complete with a brown leather field scabbard with a metal throat area. Notes: acquired from a Lancashire Masonic Lodge (Strageways1219), and apparently used in some ceremonies there. Approximately 100cm in its scabbard, blade length 81.5cm. Condition: generally fair. The sword appears to have undergone some amateur refurbishment over the years, with the most notable thing being the liberal application of some kind of varnish or lacquer to the hilt. Wear to this finish can be seen in places, and the now darker base metal is showing through. The throat to the scabbard has simply been painted gold over the steel base metal, but I’m it would be possible to strip this. There has been a break in the metal scabbard under the leather covering, meaning there is now some flex about two thirds of the way up from the bottom. The blade is mostly clean and bright, with just some light mottling in places. The tip of the blade appears to have broken away at some point, and is now fairly blunt.
A WW2 era Indian SMLE bayonet, with scabbard and webbing frog. Marked GRI with a crown at the ricasso, plus MKII and 5.42, indicating it was made in May 1942. The ‘RFI’ stamp is for the Rifle Factory Ishapore. Complete with wooden slab grips, and pommel with push button catch release. The scabbard is of leather construction, with steel chape and throat. Fitted with a tan webbing frog. Given the date on item, it likely saw service in Burma during the conflict. Approximately 45.8cm length in scabbard. Plus, a bone handled Kukri knife, with the usual curved blade, and leather sheath with the small Karda and Chakmak. The Kukri is likely from the same era as the SMLE bayonet. Approximately 46cm in the sheath. Condition: some age and service wear to both. The SMLE has a fair amount of wear to the leather part of the scabbard, but could certainly be improved by some cleaning. The blade is a little darkened in places, but is in good order. The webbing frog shows service wear but is otherwise good. The sheath for the Kukri is a little worn and tired in places, but is mostly complete. The blade is mostly clean, and shows evidence of sharpening (and is actually razor sharp to the cutting edge).
A Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, Solingen M1895 bayonet and scabbard, made for the Chilean armed forces. In production from circa 1895-1901, the bayonet has slab wooden grips, steel pommel and cross guard. Matched serial number to the cross guard and frog stud on the scabbard. Manufacturers marks to the ricasso, and Chilean issue marks to the reverse side. Approximate length 39.8cm, blade length 25.9cm Condition: very good. Good clean blade, and appears to be unsharpened. Some tiny indentations to the slab grips, but otherwise intact. Light service patination to the pommel and cross guard, the former having a working release catch stud. Scabbard very good, with virtually all bluing still present.
A British WW1 era 1907 pattern bayonet, with scabbard.Stamped ‘4 17’ to the ricasso, indicating a manufacturing date of April 1917.It’s also stamped with the makers details of Sanderson, the broad arrow and bend test mark, and various inspection marks. The leather and steel mounted scabbard is stamped ‘RE’ to the chape and throat area, indicating it was made by Remington.Usual wooden slab grips, secured by two screws.Overall length in scabbard 56.3cm, blade length 43cm.Condition: generally good. The wooden grips show some normal age and service wear, and there is a little loss to the wood around one of the screws. The pommel has a working button release catch, and much of its bluing remaining. The blade is excellent, with virtually all of its bluing present, with just a few track lines from where it has and been withdrawn from the scabbard. The scabbard is good and solid, with just a little old surface corrosion to the chape area.
A WW1 German Erzatz bayonet. All steel construction, with open muzzle ring and contoured handle. Button release catch to the pommel area, which would to operate correctly. Faint part serial number on the cross guard, which reads ‘..83’. Single edged blade with fuller, but no apparent makers marks or dates. Approximately 45cm length in scabbard, blade length 30.5cm. Condition: generally solid, but some service and age related wear. Some surface corrosion and pitting to both the handle and scabbard, with the latter having a shallow dent near the frog stud. The blade is relatively bright, and shows evidence of sharpening. There are multiple nicks to the cutting edge, plus some blackening to the tip area of the blade (possibly from long term contact with a type of oil?). The release catch on the pommel works as it should.
