ADMIRAL WILLIAM HENRY EDYE: A collection of items relating to his distinguished naval career. An 1827 pattern Victorian naval and Son of Devonport. The gilt brass hilt with lion-head pommel, Gothic- form guard witth crown over anchor and ivory grips. The straight single fillered blade engraved with foliate patterns and 'Presented by the Naval cadets of HMS Brittania to Captain William Henry Edye Royal Navy on his promotion September 11th 1865- The scabbard has its brass mounts but worn leather work. Together with an oak chest containing ephemera, Victorian naval gilt brass belt buckle and India general service medal ( GSM) (1854) with PEGU clasp to Wm. H. EDYE ACTg LIEUT. 'HASTINGS'
BRIGADIER JOHN HENRY MURRAY EDYE DSO MC MBE: A collection of items relating to his career. An 1897 pattern George V Infantry officer's sword, the piered steel hand basket with turned down inner-guard, shagreen grip with leather portepee knot. The blade by Army and Navy cooperative Co is engraved with foliage, the King's Crown and Cypher together with 'J. EDYE York and Lancaster Regt', brown leather scabbard. The lot includes photograph portraits, ephemera including citation and obitiary. Also, his wife Dorothy Alexandra Edye's Red Cross Society medal and scroll together with portrait photograph. John Edye was wounded in Ypres 8/7/15 and at Yser Canal 29/8/15 Shell shocked in 20/8/16. Awarded DSO and MC
Bayonets: 1) WW1 Austrian Model 1895 Knife Bayonet. Good blade marked 'OEWG' & 'G'. In its blued steel scabbard. Light surface rust. Will clean up well. 2) German WW2 1884/98 knife bayonet in its steel scabbard. Ricasso marked '42 fnj'. (Alcoso-Stahlwarenfabrik Gmb H. Vormals Alex Coppel & Cie Solingen) Scabbard marked 'Jwh 42' (Chatellerault FR) Blade excellent. Scabbard surface rust. 3) No 4 MKII Spike bayonet in steel scabbard g.c. (3)
Dirk: A good Naval Officer's Dirk circa 1800 based on the five ball spadroon sword. Ribbed grip with 'cigar band' Crown & Anchor device. Brass bun type pommel. Five ball crossguard with drooping quillons. Slim steel blade 14.5". In its brass mounted leather scabbard with anchor motif to locket stitching. Sold as seen
Knife: American Bowie knife. Blade 6" and etched 'The United States Land of the Free and Home of the Brave protected by her Noble and Brave Volunteers'. American Eagle underneath 'Ready to Defend' '.....and nothing but wishes and to submit to nothing'. Etching faint in places. Nickel silver (?) & Mother of Pearl grips with early American Eagle relief. In its leather scabbard with a red scorpion carved in relief. Frog stud on nickel locket and chape. A nice item worthy of further research. Scarce
