A Good Oak Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed William Barnard, Newark, circa 1735, flat top pediment, arched trunk door with moulded borders, glass lenticle, 12-1/4-inch square brass dial with a silvered chapter ring signed, date aperture and seconds dial, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement, rack striking on a bell, 208cm high, This clock was purchased from Brian Loomes in 2008 and is sold with the invoice see illustration William Barnard (1707-1784) was one of the best-known Newark clockmakers. He was apprenticed to Nottingham clockmaker Daniel Tantum in 1724. This example is a pre-numbered clockwhich dates it to circa 1735. 18.10.18, Case is clean, hood with slight repairs to the column capitals, plinth skirting is later, silvered chapter ring with minor discolouring, movement is clean, movement in going order, with pendulum and two weights.
