A large late 19th century French gilt mantle clock, the case modelled as a classical lady and child with foliate decoration and cherub motifs. Enamel dial featuring Roman numerals with movement striking on a bell. H. 38 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Key and pendulum present. Some minor damage to case. Back cover missing. One minor hairline to dial. Appears to work but not guaranteed.
An Impressive Ecclesiastical Gothic-Style Louis Recordon (1778-1824) Double Fusee Clock, the silvered face with Roman dial, double fusee movement strikes to a bell. The vaulted rosewood case with pierced grilles fitted with a gilt bronze sphinx, flanked by spires with decorative brass inlay, raised on lion-claw feet, approx 73 x 36 x 18 cms. The clock pendulum is signed Recordon late Emery. Louis Recordon Swiss born clock and watchmaker (1778-1824) is listed as working between 1778-1824 in Soho, having succeeded Josiah Emery in 1805 at his premises in Cockspur Street.

Finished in red and green colourway.The centre depicts a ship with a square centre sail and oars. In the sky above is a dragon with a double body. The border pattern consists of oriental floral and lattice motif.During the second half of the 19th century Bells developed a range of designs specially geared to the Eastern market. One of the design innovations used by them was the two-coloured printed pattern, where the central motif and border were of different colours, as in this example.Large chip to under glaze under rim, dia 10 inches.

Back edge numbered “2176”. White metal foliage pierced guard with Kings crown GRV cypher. White metal checkered backstrap. Shagreen covered grip with twist wire binding. Contained in its leather covered field scabbard (some wear to leather).
