MANCHESTER UNITED Autograph book containing some excellent signatures from the very early days of Manchester United plus many Busby Babes including Busby himself, Duncan Edwards (three separate signatures), Roger Byrne (two), Whelan, Taylor, Jones, Bent, Colman and Pegg, many are across two pages and some are laid down. There are pictures of Byrne and Edwards with laid down signatures beneath. The early signatures include Billy Meredith (laid down), George Wall, George Stacey, Alex Bell and Harry Moger. These players were all stalwarts of the first successful United side circa 1907. The book also contains a few 60s autographs including Denis Law, Stiles, Gaskill, Herd, Quixall and probably Best and Brennan. Some pages are loose but this is an opportunity to obtain many of the earlier greats from the history of Manchester United. As described

Bell (William). Narrative of the Entrance of the ‘Conch’ at Port Natal with Troops, to Relieve Captain Smith, when Blockaded by the Boers, in June 1842, by William Bell, who Commanded the ‘Conch’, and Late Port Captain at Port Natal, with an Introduction and Notes, 1st ed., Adams & Co., Durban & P. Davis & Sons, Maritzburg, 1869, 24 pp., a little spotting, orig. printed wrappers, contemp. ownership inscription to upper wrapper, ‘EPT Goldsmith, L/XX Regt. Natal, 22nd Sept.’, covers detached and both with sl. chipped and soiled, slim 12mo. No other copies of this original edition have been traced though a facsimile reprint of 100 copies was published in 1988 by Africana Book Collectors, Pieter Maritzburg. Captain George Durnford was in command of a company of the 27th Foot which went to the assistance of the British garrison besieged by rebellious Dutch trekboers at Port Natal in June 1842. The result of this conflict was the end of the Boer Republic of Natalia and the final annexation by Britain of Natal to the Cape Colony followed in 1844. Edward Primrose Tregurtha Goldsmith (born 1842 in Sutton, Lincolnshire, and died 1901 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) was created an ensign in the 20th (the East Devonshire) Foot (London Gazette, 11th February 1862). A French Louis XV style silvered metal mounted cream lacquered mantel clock, circa 1900, the eight-day bell striking movement with platform lever escapement and white enamel Roman numeral dial with retailers signature HOWELL & JAMES LIMITED..., the waisted case with rocaille cast edge mounts to front and on festoon swag applied concave fronted plinth base with scroll feet, 27cm high. Condition Report:** Movement is intact but not currently running as is overwound, however escapement appears free from damage so probably just requires a clean and overhaul. Dial has a series of hairline cracks to the upper numerals of the chaper ring but appears free of chips/losses to enamel. Case has overall wear and crazing to cream lacquer finish with noticeable flaking to carcass joints within the case, the metal mounts are complete but are tarnished and worn. Generally a very decorative clock with an attractive `lived in` feel. Clock does not have a winding key.
A French Regence style gilt metal mounted scarlet boulle mantel clock, late 19th century, the eight-day bell striking movement with white enamel Roman numeral cartouche inset gilt brass dial, the case with fruit filled urn finial to the concave upstand above mask centred shallow arch crest and bead panel beneath dial, on scroll feet, the whole veneered with red shell and brass marquetry, 31cm high. Condition Report:** Movement appears to be in working condition but probably would benefit from a clean and overhaul. Dial has shallow chip to enamel of IIII numeral otherwise is in good original condition. Case has small shell veneer losses to top panel where urn finial is screwed into the case, otherwise is in good original condition with no apparent losses to the marquetry, however the brass is discoloured and there are signs of slight lifting to brass marquetry in places. Clock comes with pendulum and winding key.
A French Jacob Petit Paris porcelain cased mantel clock, late 19th century, the eight-day bell striking movement with white enamel Roman numeral dial signed W. B. PROMOLI, RUE DE BOULOGNE 4, A PARIS to centre, the waisted case with floral spray painted panels on a mid green ground within elaborate rocaille moulded gilt highlighted borders, the underside with underglaze blue J.P. mark, on original matching porcelain plinth, (slight damage to clock case), 44cm high overall. Condition Report:** Movement appears complete and original however would benefit from a clean and overhaul. Ddial appears undamaged but is dirty. The case has a chip/loss to the extreme right hand scroll otherwise is in very good condition with only very light gilt wear, as well as some surface wear to green ground where clock sits in the base. Clock comes with pendulum but no winding key.
A FRENCH ORMOLU & PORCELAIN MANTEL CLOCK, JAPY FRERES, the 90mm porcelain dial with gilt Roman numerals, a garland of flowers, gilt spandrels on a blue ground and signed "Cresson a Paris, Rodier" the two train movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell, the case cast with a mask, rams heads and surmounted by two putti, and with porcelain side panels, the base with a circular portrait miniature and applied urns and foliage, 34cms high (with ebonised stand, pendulum & key)
