Victorian Royal Engineers Officer's 1897 Pattern Sword32 1/2 inch, dumb bell blade with central fuller. Etched foliage panels, crowned royal coat of arms, winged lighting bolts and 'Royal Engineers'. Officer's initials 'D.A.G.'. Forte with maker 'Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London'. Back edge numbered '36375'. Infantry pattern, scroll pierced guard with crowned 'VR' cypher. Plated checkered backstrap and plain pommel. Shagreen covered grip with twist wire binding. Contained in its leather covered, wooden field scabbard. Together with a spare field scabbard and frog (not fitting this sword). 2 items.
1897 Pattern Infantry/Royal Engineers Swordstraight dumb bell blade with central fuller. Foliage panels, Royal Engineers motif and crowned GRV cypher. Retailer of 'Hodgson & Morgan. Thomas St Woolwich' to the forte. Nickel plated foliage pierced hilt with crowned GRV cypher. Checkered backstrap. Shagreen covered grip with white metal twist wire binding. Brown leather sword knot (some damage). Contained in its leather covered field scabbard with nickel plated mounts.
