A LARGE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN ‘NINE PEACHES’ PLANTER OR JARDINIÈRE CHINA, LATE QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY Of bell shape, it is finely painted in famille rose enamels with the blossoming branches of peach tree charged with nine peaches. The top of the rim is painted in blue enamels with a flower design. H: 24,5 cm - 36 cm Provenance: - a private collection; - Juan Carlos Katzenstein (1925-2018), an Argentinian Diplomat, who was an Ambassador in Beijing, China, from December 6, 1975 to January 2, 1978, and later to the Holy See (Vatican) and to the Sovereign Order of Malta from 1989 to 1991 (by repute). Note: Peaches have traditionally been associated with Daoism and longevity. In mythology, the goddess Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West, owned a vast peach orchard, and it was said that anyone who ate the fruit would become immortal. As such, peaches are considered sacred and auspicious, and when used as a decorative motif, convey wishes for longevity and good fortune. Vessels decorated with luxuriant peach branches were very popular in the Qing dynasty, and might have been commissioned as birthday gifts or as a form of commemoration for an imperial birthday. 大型“九桃”粉彩瓷花盆 中国,晚清,19世纪 NOTE: CONDITION REPORTS AND MEASUREMENTS It is up to the bidder to satisfy themselves prior to buying as to the condition of a lot.
