Lot 331
GWR crossing keepers warning bell, complete with machine engraved shelf type plate KNIGHTS CROSSING. The Mahogany case is stamped twice on the front GWR and on the back GWR MAKERS PADD AY and comes complete with a miniature church bell. A rare item indeed. Knights crossing was on the line between Midgham and Colthrop in Berkshire.

A black japanned eight-day longcase clock in distressed condition, 18th century, the disassembled and incomplete movement formerly with five finned pillars and inside countwheel bell strike, the 12 inch brass break-arch herringbone border engraved dial with star engraved subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and bird engraved calendar aperture within silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and winged cherub mask and scroll cast spandrels to angles, the arch with winged cherub and crown cast cartouche enclosing engraved signature 'Walter Harris, LONDON', with a later pagoda pedimented black japanned case with break-arch dial aperture to the distressed hood above conforming trunk door decorated in raised polychrome and gilt with oriental figures and pagodas over plinth base with moulded double skirt, (movement and case distressed and with losses).

A fine Sheraton period Irish inlaid mahogany serpentine sideboard, with cross-banded and ebony/boxwood stringing to the flamed top and drawer fronts, the drawer having canted brass handles, the square taper legs having satinwood ribbon bow and bell-husk marquetry and fan infils, 230cm wide, 82cm deep, 93cm surface height.
