His Pathology of the Larynx and Bronchia is noted: ‘Cheyne’s important book deals mainly with the lesions of croup’ (G-M 3252), An Essay on Hydrocephalus Acutus... ‘Acute hydrocephalus first described’ (G-M 4635) and Cases of Apoplexy and Lethargy... ‘Cheyne believed that cerebral anaemia might be the cause of apoplexy and described pathological cases of cerebral infarction and of cerebral haemorrhage. The work contains the first illustration of a subarachnoid haemorrhage’ (G-M 4519.1). (4)

Merrythought Noddy, c.1959: pressed velvet face with painted features, head on spring to allow nodding motion, large flat soled feet, blue felt hat with bell, red velvet jersey, blue felt shorts, yellow neckerchief with red polka dots, red felt shoes with purple ribbon ties, Merrythought label to foot. Height 27cm. A couple of pink marks to feet, and small patches of felt missing to soles of feet and back of shorts but otherwise excellent clean condition.

A parquetry inlaid mahogany North Country longcase clock early 19th century, the eight day twin train bell strike movement with anchor escapement, with painted arched Roman dial with moonphase, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, pierced engraved brass hands, the spandrels painted with buildings in landscapes, the case with swan`s neck pediment centred by a parquetry architectural surmount, over a parquetry banded frieze and arched glazed door flanked by turned ropetwist columns, the trunk with extensive parquetry banding and conforming columns, 90¼in. (229.5cm.) high, 26¼in. (66.5cm.) wide. * Please note that this clock has been regularly maintained by the Guernsey Clockmakers and is in good working order.
Duncan Grant (Scottish, 1885-1978) Ornamental urns in Charleston garden oil on canvas, signed and dated `D Grant \ 72` lower left, `No 2` in red chalk verso 20½ x 17½in. (52 x 44.5cm.) * Charleston was the East Sussex home of Duncan Grant and his wife Vanessa Bell (sister of Virginia Woolf), both pivotal figures within the Bloomsbury Group. Grant was also a founding member of the Camden Town Group in 1911, exhibited with the Grafton Group in 1913 and became a member of the London Group in 1919. He was represented at the Venice Biennale in 1926 and 1932, and his work was included in the Coronation Exhibition of Contemporary British Artists at Agnew and Sons, London, in 1937. The Tate Gallery held a retrospective of his work in 1959 and an exhibition at the Tate Gallery was held in 1975 in honour of his 90th birthday, together with an exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. The urns in this painting can be seen in a photograph on the cover of `The Garden at Charleston: A Bloomsbury Garden through the Seasons` by Sue Snell, pub. 2010 by Frances Lincoln.
