*** AWAY CLOCK RETURNED TO ETWALL***A Whitehurst of Derby 8 day Longcase clock with 13" round brass silvered dial eight-day movement striking on a bell. Contained in an oak case with walnut cross-banding. Condition report. Movement and dial look to be original. The seat-board is new and there are unsympathetic restorations to the case. The Whitehurst family were famous Derbyshire clockmakers, starting with John Whitehurst in the 18th century and carrying on with a succession of family members who produced fine clocks into the 19th century.

Round bottom and glazed aperture to bottom. Brass inlay to bottom of case: 12" dial with spun bezel.W Salisbury is recorded as working in Ashby-de-la-Zouch Leicestershire in 1858 Condition report:Good condition. Some restoration to case - complete with pendulum and key. Movement working but not tested.Restored by present owners who were clock and watch repairers
*** RE OFFER JULY £400-600*** Nicholson of Whitehaven Cumbria 8 day longcase clock with penny moon Good 18th Century 8 day Longcase Clock. Two train movement striking on a bell with 13" square brass dial with penny moon and date ring. The four leaf clover winding squares can clearly be seen on the movement and was a nice touch adopted by the Nicholsons. Contained in a walnut case with mahogany cross-banding 92" x 20" x 28" This clock is in good condition and restored by the deceased father who was a clock and watch repairer. My only comment is that the matching of the cross banding needs to be redone or coloured in to match. William and Jacob Nicholson were fine clockmakers and produced some outstanding clocks and this is certainly one of them. Working from about 1730 to late 1700s

*** RE OFFER JULY £100-200*** An English brass mantel clock with French movement by J Edmonds, 668 Gt Baker Street, London, engraved on the dial. The front of the case is engraved 'From two old friends' on one side and MDCCCLXXXII ( 1882) on the other, above columns. A lovely clock with good casting of griffin-style birds on the front and bearded winged gargoyles on each side. Finials to top corners and top (missing). Twin train movement striking on a bell. Dial 4.5". Case 11" x 16" x 6.5" deep. Condition report: Good original condition, just central finial missing on top of case. Looks to be a presentation piece. Retailed perhaps by J.D. Edmonds

A mid-19th century Irish mahogany cased longcase clock by William Sprat, Saintfield, Ireland, with a swans neck pediment with wooden patera and finial, with a recessed break arch hood door flanked by two turned and ringed columns, trunk with canted corners and raised panels with a matching rectangular flat topped door, on a rectangular plinth with conforming canted corners and a flat base (feet missing) , a fully painted break arch dial with matching spandrels and a depiction of a country house and lake to the arch, with Roman numerals and minute track, subsidiary seconds dial and date disc behind an arched aperture, with matching unstamped brass hands and painted depiction of birds of paradise to the dial centre, dial pinned via a steel false plate to an eight day rack striking movement, striking the hours on a cast bell. With pendulum and weights. Notes: The Sprat family were prolific Irish clockmakers working in Ireland during the 18th and 19th century, William first working in Ardmillan (Ireland) then Saintfield d1848. A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE VICTORIAN SLATE MANTLE CLOCK of architectural form, the eight day movement striking on a bell, the case with cast bronze beast of a man, within a broken arch pediment, the main body of the case flanked by a pair of bronze classical female figures, on a shaped plinth base. 25ins high x 18 ins high.
Imperial Russian Jager Bugle Horn, constructed from brass, it has the Imperial Russian double headed eagle embossed to the bell of the horn, much of the body of the horn is bound with green cotton tape, though the mouth piece is missing it is still a scarce item, this item is part of a grouping belonging to Major General William Cochrane Anderson R.A. 1794-1865, and is believed to have been brought back from the Crimea by a member of the Generals family, (additional information from the vendor has allowed us surmise that the most likely member of William Cochrane Andersons family to have brought the items home from his campaigns is his eldest son Maj. Gen. John Richard Anderson CB, born in 1821 records show he served in the 1st Opium War in China in 1842 at the Battle of Chinkiang and subsequent operations including the demonstration before Nanking. In the Crimea, as a Captain, he was the Officer in Command of the 9th Battery, Royal Artillery, attached to the Light Division at the Battle of the Alma, the capture of Balaclava, and the Siege of Sebastopol, and was named in General Orders by Lord Lucan. During the Indian Mutiny, as a Major, he commanded the artillery at the storm and siege of a town in the State of Oudh under Brigadier General Hope Grant. He commanded 'F' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery at the Siege of Lucknow and other minor engagements, and was named four times in General Orders by Lord Clyde (General Sir Colin Campbell) and the Governor General of India.)
